Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

Resistance multi is a total joke. Run around like a retard and shoot people. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

...I'm not sure what kind of expectations you had going into that game, but FPS multiplayer usually consists of running around like a retard shooting people.

It's just all out retardation. There's not strategy at all. There's basically only Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch games available. You spawn. An enemy's right next to you. He shoots at you ferociously, you shoot back ... one of you dies. This goes on and on and on and on.

Aren't there capture the flag and node game types as well? I thought they had a few game types in there aside from the normal death match.

They do, but unforunately no one seems to play them. I really wanted to try out Breach. Btw, does this game support voice chat? Online games are worthless without voice chat, imo.

Check this: My TV supports PIP over HDMI. So I have 360 and PS3 running right next to each other :lol

i want that tvv :D

I just went to Yamada Denki to pick up a PS2 memory card adaptor, and saw that they had a Devil May Cry 4 playable demo running on the PS3 kiosk!

First Power Smash 3, now DMC4...where are these demos on the PS3 online store??

Japanese companies are evil about this. Kiosks get all sorts of cool demos, and we never see them at home >_<

Motorstorm downloaded fast as hell tonight. The game is a BLAST too. Could be greatness online.

wow, you actually like something! :P

I was thinking of picking up motorstorm when its released in Japan, but I do think it'd be fantastic multiplayer. I might actually pick up both Japanese for some single player and to help with the drought, and then the multiplayer version when its released in the US

I like a lot of things. It's just that Gears and the greatness of Xbox Live for $200 less has soured me on the PS3 a bit. Sorry.

Sofmap had PS3s this morning. I was looking for some PSP shit and the clerk was like "WE HAVE PS3S!!!" I looked at my friend who was with me and we were like "Huh."

Then we went back to our respective homes and played Gears for 4 hours.

I discovered another minor annoyance when trying to play a game after watching a blu-ray movie. For some reason the system refused to switch back to Dolby Digital after being in Dolby Prologic II for the Ricky Bobby blu-ray menu. I had to reboot the system and then put in resistance to actually get sound to work in the game. Am I missing something?

if you faggots like gears so much maybe you should.. you know.. play it and not post in ps3 threads how "good" it is?

Yeah this TV is awesome, I have the same one except the speaker part is black instead of silver. It's 720p but it should be around or less than $1000 by now. Also, I must warn any potential buyers that PIP is ONLY for HDMI and component. I run 360 on VGA, PS3 on HDMI so no PIP for me :/

i have that same tv, m0dus tore me apart when i told him i had that tv, said it was one of the worst lcds out :lol

Well, for $1000 or so, its pretty decent I think. And that is one of the cheapest here in Japan, anything less than $1000 really aren't so good. I know in the US, they got LCDs from Westinghouse or something thats cheaper and looks good, but hey I dont live there.

Spend more, obviously you can get ones that have much better quality, and/or 1080p.

I think he's including the price of Xbox live as well. How much is one year of Xbox live btw?

$70 with headset
$50 to renew

And as a side note, I paired up my PS3 with my bluetooth headset, so I'm completely wireless when playing games AND I didn't have to buy any proprietary bullshit on top of what the console came with.

my girlfriend is trying to talk me out of wanting one. I'm sure it'll be a little while before I can actually get one, but when I do I'm sure I'll be getting a launch title or two.

Most of HD Ready TVs are doing this. Why is everybody so surprised ? (Pip/Pap mean something to you ? Picture in picture / Picture and picture)
Even my computer LCD does it.
It's not very usefull but it's a cool feature.

I agree. And why don't they give us Motorstorm demo arghh! They have added NIL since the launch date... Probably busy patching backwards compatibility (who cares?!!!!)

Where can I preorder the Japanese motorstorm that'll ship to the UK?

er, to let people know there are new shipments trickling into Japan? The Gears thing was just icing on his anecdote. You guys jump on the tiniest things

so my friends. i just want you to ask one simple question:

was the ps3 launch a success?

i mean, is the PS3 already sold out in the US?

Not a big deal but mine has crashed twice already, once when loading the F1 demo and once when attempting to boot RR7. Seems more like software problems than hardware but still scary after what I've been through with the 360.

Or $30 dollars off ebay for anyone with sense.

Seriously, RRP cannot be taken for 360 stuff any more because of bundles, discounts etc.

I had the same issue earlier -- I literally rewired my entire setup two or three times, even going so far as to put my PS3 and TV on seperate outlets in the event of interference. Each time I thought the problem had been solved, but I'd boot up the PS3 and I'd see the lines for just a moment. They'd fade in and out, sometimes severe, sometimes not.

Then I cut my system selector out of the equation and hooked up my PS3 directly to the TV via component. No bands. It ended up being my crappy cheap system selector, but buying another one isn't feasible right now, nor is manually digging around the rear of my set whenever I want to plug another system in. My solution? I kid you not, I wrapped my damn system selector almost entirely in aluminum foil, even going so far as to lift it and place the foil underneath. I haven't had a band since.

if it happens even in HDMI (at least that's what Baron Aloha said) it has hardly anything to do with system selectors or interferences

unless it has something to do with what's inside the PS3 but that thing should be shielded

:)

the ps3 music visualizer is great -- really stylish and relaxing, and it seems to come up with changes that fit the music. i was listening to 'zoom' off the last super furries album, and it started me off with kind of a mountainscape that pulsed along with the music at its horizon, and at a particular point where a choir comes in it seemed to turn into a cloudscape. neat. later i got water droplets that turned into floating squares. got to say i prefer this to the psychedelic overload approach.

ps3 plays sacd, doesn't it? i may pick one up tomorrow.

So far, here are my issues with the PS3. I'll be honest, some points might be there because I can't find a way to get over it. Here goes:

Music Player:
1- Recognize an iPod. Ok I can play music via the folders but it sincerely sucks.
2- Play music in the background. When I press circle to go back, it stops. I'd like to be able to browse while listening to music.

Browser:
1- Eliminate the virtual keyboard if I type with a KB. It's really annoying to type in a restricted box and unless I am wrong, this box has a character limit. (And with the fact that I have to edit my answer on my PC because I can't type anything else, I know I'm not :lol )

System in General:
1- More language options for the keyboard. I am french Canadian and we use a QWERTY-type layout. Here, I can only choose english or AZERTY french. I don't have this problem with the 360.
2- The ability to boot directly to XMB. Again, I love this feature on 360. I don't want to boot while ejecting all the time.
3- Download in the background. Come on Sony. MS paved the way to a successful interface. This is not copying, it's making life easier.

PS2 Emulation:
1- Enhance the games via software. Make it at least 720p! I want to play FFXII but it looks so bad on my HDTV.

Of course, everything else I very good. The PS store has a nice interface and the games are really great looking but when you have a 360 and notice that the PS3 is lacking those simple but effective features, you kind of cannot wait for the next firmware update.

And PiP is great. Although it's not the best way to play, your girlfriend cannot complain that she cannot watch her stuff while you play. (Of course, the TV and consoles are hooked to different sound outputs.)

This wasn't right out of the box for MS either you know...

It being sold out isn't the best quantifier of a succesful launch. First, we need to know how many systems were actually available. What will the software attach rate be?

The launch has caused a lot of buzz and interest in the PS3(always good) but it's also pissing off a lot of people. It's going to be awhile before we can definatively make a call on how succesful the launch was.
