Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

If Sony's going to chintz on basic IR remote support then the least they could do is justify going Bluetooth only by pushing it's merits as a TWO-WAY communication protocol that doesn't require line of sight. What I'd really like is a BT remote with a small display that lets me at least navigate and play music from the PS3 without having to turn on the TV in order to see what I'm doing.

VERY nice idea!

Has anyone downloaded the full version of Cash Guns Chaos yet? Full version seems to have been up for a couple of days on the Playstation Store as far as I can tell.

Did Sony jinx me or something? Now my second PS3 has been misrouted by the transport company, it's somewhere in the souther part of France now. Yesterday it was 20 km away from my home when it cleared the customs.
Yay.

I finally found a copy of Ridge Racer! What's with this title being scarece at launch (see also PSP version).

And for those interested, my Target had the memory card adapter. I have 5 ps1 cards and 2 ps2 cards, so it's worth it to me.

Yikes, sorry to hear that. :( You're taking it better than most people would at least.

Has anyone had trouble downloading from the Playstation store?

I just got my system yesterday and it took 45 minutes to download the system update over my wireless network.

It took me 3-4 hours to download the Motorstorm demo this morning.

It took about 45 minutes to download the 85MB Lair trailer a little while ago.

The download speeds are atrocious and I'm wondering if the PS Store isn't communicating very well with my ISP.

All the other devices on my wireless network are downloading very fast so I don't think that's the problem. For comparison, I just downloaded an 85MB trailer off Xbox Live and it took about 6 minutes. I also just downloaded a 100MB file to my laptop and it took about 10 minutes.

Have you tried wiring the PS3 to see if that helps? Then you can be sure it's not your wireless connection.

No, but i'll try it tomorrow. I really don't think its the network because everything is humming right along just fine. The wi-fi adapter in the PS3 could be bad, I guess that's a possibility.

Yeah, that might be it, many people have been reporting bad connection speeds with wireless even though the rest of their equipment was okay. The PS3 is really temperamental. :lol

just finished genji 2. the level on the boats is actually pretty great -- i guess the first section is the same sort of mob fighting as the rest of the game, but the visuals and coolness of the setting elevate it, and the whole sequence aboard the giant flagship is really strong. i think that level's nearly as long as the whole of the first game. the first half of the final level is strong too, but it comes back to earth thereafter, and the final boss is awfully tedious. strange game -- strange moments of inspiration shining through the general mediocrity. the combat's mostly fun, and it's challenging enough if you restrict your use of healing items. i think i could recommend it...if you know what you're getting into.

I'm thinking between $40-50. It's coming out in early December in Japan I think, but I don't know when it's supposed to hit the US.
3,600 yen, around 30 dollars IIRC. Available December 7.

someone send mtvoid.com a PS3, and get them to convert control freak to PS3

Now I want to play through this game. :\

My trudge through horribleness continues. Next up...Call of Duty 3 Wii.

Quick question: If I get a USB headphone/headset and plug it into the PS3, will I be able to force the PS3 to send all sound through it? Or will it only send sound through component/composite/HDMI/whatever?

Basically I'm just looking for a way to have a headset but also wear headphones (I play games on my computer through my capture card)

have any of you Japan gaffers that actually have a JP credit card tried the PS1 games on your PSP? i asked the same of DC but apparently he can't purchase PS1 games because he does not have a Japanese credit card. i'm curious as to how the games run and if the emulation is near perfect.

Just a heads up, Lemmings is available for download from the Jp PS Store. 840yen avec tax, 251MB download. No demo version available at the moment though.

You need to register a credit card - with a Jp billing address with your Jp PS Store account. So unless you have a Jp credit card I would guess that you wouldn't be able to purchase it... for now.

The US version is coming on the 18th isn't it? Not long to wait if so.

I have the same problem. I've tried both wired and wireless connections, neither offering a clear speed boost over the other. I can browse the web and play online perfectly fine though, leading me to believe it's a problem tied to the servers Sony's using for its updates and store.

Can anyone tell me how PS3 games look on 720p-native LCD HDTVs through HDMI? Is the picture quality crisp, clean, vibrant and pixel-perfect?

Looks ****in godly. Resistance does anyways (my only game). I havent got to try any others. Might try to find RR7 for rent today though.

Yep, me too. So much for 60Gb premium bundle wifi blah blah. Go Ethernet and everything is well. Online games work well on wifi though, only fat downloads suffer... (strange)

According to IGN, Fl0w got pushed back two weeks. Most likely Lemmings got pushed up, so it will probably be available on the U.S. store Monday night/Tuesday morning.

I just covered for someone at my store today. Oh man was it tough on me. I wish I could've bought one, but won't have the money for it until next paycheck. We got in six PS3 and they were all called for before the store opened.

My DL speeds are so bad I dont even bother. Seriously Sony Charge me $50 a month so I can get speeds compareable to XBOX LIVE.

Superman Blu-ray is nice! VC-1 with great extras. I think it might be the 1st Blu-ray disc I buy.

Blu-ray is ****ing FINALLY here. Good job sony, only a year late.

I can't view Youtube at work, but there is only one tiny line in that GIF ("Well then, XBO..." and then he goes nuts).

Yeah, in the Video the white cat says something different before this line. Thanks anyway. :)

I did a line speed test and with wifi I was getting 1MB down & 1MB up.

With wired it gave me the full 5MB down and 1MBup :)

The download thing is strange and very, very annoying.

I'm not planning on running ethernet across my house anytime soon, so they had better fix it.

I bought a second PS3, the first one is still here waiting to go back to Japan. No doubt it will take weeks at best.

I see. Blim's rolling in the cash! ;)

So.... there's really no reason to get a 60GB system then? Unless I really want the memory card ready.

yeah, the memory card slots are nice, but just about any standard USB memory card reader works.

It would of been nice if the premium had a built in PS2 memory car reader.

All Warner Brother movies will be VC-1, because they just convert their HD-DVD offering into Blu-Ray. The only thing that blows ass with WB, is that they've been skipping out on adding good audio to the Blu-Ray versions. They're too lazy to recode the audio they included on their HD-DVD offering. It's purposely done though because WB has always leaned towards HD-DVD. It's a shame, but maybe things change in their next offerings.

Wish I 'd known that UltraATA drives won't work as a HDD replacement. I had to get go back to the store and exchange it for a Seagate SATA instead. 15% OEM restocking fee for the mother****ing loss. :|

Actually my bank must be laughing really hard right now at how much I'll have to pay every month for this.
We needed 2 PS3s anyway, one for me so I can do 720p videos and one for Snoopers so he can actually know what he's talking about in GSD.

Doesn't really sound that strange to me. Deja vu of the first few months of downloads on the 360 marketplace where the download speeds I got through the 360 were worse than I was getting on my PC for the same net connection.

If you ordered from Newegg, if you bitch enough about the descriptions being unclear they will apply a "one time courtesy credit" which is the last resort to shut you up. Of course you complain politely and just feign dissapointment and shock over how inflexible the policies are for a "1st time user". Works every time!! :D

Ughhh...need a 60 GB and was only able to find two stores with 1 20 GB left just now. Check your local GS/EB stores NOW if you are still looking. Some stores got 60GB systems in but none of the ones I called.
