Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
Well I didn't see a thread here (probably because few people here like tennis) so I made one.

Kind of late on the topic as the tournament started yesterday, but it looks like Roddick's out in the first round to a relatively unknown player. It also looks like James Blake is coming back into the limelight after a while as he won today. Another key but unknown player to look out for is Andy Murray. He's supposed to be Britains next big tennis star and so far he's looking good by winning his match against a veteran.

Anyways, biggest news of today is Andy losing and it looks like Dean Goldfine (his coach) may be out soon too.

Last year's woman's US open champ Kuznetsova lost in the first round yesterday too. Quickest exit by a defending champ in US open history. :lol ouch.

Or maybe Andy just needs to learn how to hit a backhand and a volley. The depth in men's tennis is insane right now, Roddick's straight up power game doesn't really phase anyone these days because everyone on the tour can bang all day.

The tournament should be interesting, two young American women qualifiers made it through the first round as well. 15 year old Alexa Glatch, and 16 year old Vania King both from California won first round matches. Should be an interesting tournament, Nadal is looking good as well as Agassi, but Federer is obviously the clear cut favorite. Too bad Safin pulled out with an injury, he's the only one that can really hurt Federer on anything besides clay.

I want Hewitt to win, but like usual he'll go down to Federer in the semis. The Roddick loss is pretty damn surprising, especially in straight sets.

On the women's side, I have to go for Sharapova.

EDIT: spelling, posted this at 3 am :)

The sad thing is that nobody knew who the fuck she was anyway. :lol

Saw Roddick go down 0-2 before flipping it over to CNN...I figured he'd at least win a set. Ah well, sucks for him.

"BRITISH TEEN ANDY MURRAY VOMITS, WINS"

He was struggling to finish five set matches back at Wimbledon, and with the humidity as it is I'm amazed he won the match. He's got some real talent.

He's blaming the vomiting on a sodium drink he was taking to avoid cramp.

Andy Murray said:
It's supposed to stop you from cramping. I was a little bit tired at the start of the set.

I started to drink it and always when I take it, I start to feel a little bit sick.

And there I took too much. I felt like I was going to burp, and then threw up. It was pretty funny.

Yeah his backhand's a problem, he wasn't that bad at vollying from what I was watching but he wasn't too good either. One thing I noticed was that unlike Nadal, who's tearing up the courts right now, Roddick gives up on a lot of shots.

no wonder roddick went out in the first round!

he has been screwing with sharapova, he had other things on his mind. i tell you love is a bad bad thing for a proffesional tennis player.

if you dont think about the game your playing and concentrating you wont win.

and to you folks who are in to betting and backed bryan against Galimberti yesterday should know that Galimberti was bought up by his friend, galimberti told him to back him at bookies where the rule was" money back if match not completed" promised him that if bryan played really well and galimberti felt that he was about to lose the match he would have fake injury so his friend would get his money back.

but galimberti won :)

i made quite a lot of money on him at 1.55

Sharapova won her match today pretty easily. Venus is currently playing, so let's see if see can continue her success from Wimbledon.

I'm definitely rooting for Hewitt, but yea, he'll go down to Federer.

Roddick losing in the the first round at the U.S. Open is probably a huge blow to his psyche. I mean, that's terrible. But if those Sharapova rumors are true, well, it's not that terrible.

Federer is such a joy to watch. He could win everything in straight sets and I would still be immensely entertained.

It's his style of play, he makes every single shot that he does look very easy.

And Nadal won yesterday, I'd say Jenkins was playing very good but Nadal has an awesome forehand, he just kind of needs to work on his net play a bit.

So today Taylor Dent is knocked out in a grueling 5 setter match against Hewitt, the indian sensation Sania Mirza is knocked out pretty easily by Sharapova and Venus defates Serena in the battle of the sisters. Pretty busy day today in tennis and Federer still has to play tonight at Arthur Ashe, i'm expecting he will win though unless there some freak accident happens.

Agassi vs. Blake. Awesome.

I wonder who the crowd will be behind? Personally, I'm going for Blake. I want Agassi to just retire already.

I am. Just saw Agassi take the third set. I cant believe some of the winners that have been hit in this match. :D

Thought Blake was going to steamroll through this. But the crowd turned on him, and it has hurt his game.

WOW. There were open seats, I wish I woulda been there!

I was rooting for Blake, but I suppose in the end it doesnt matter since Federer will chew up and spit out whoever ends up in the finals with him.

What a great match :)

What a match, Agassi is a tennis GOD!!!! :D :D :D Still, I'm upset that it had to happen at Blake's expense. I want to see a brother in the US Open finals (hell, I wanna see a brother in any major final), and Blake was playing championship caliber tennis. But if he continues to play at this level, he'll get another chance

I kept thinking about that as I watched this match. These guys are playing incredible tennis and are obviously incredible athletes, but whoever wins is just going to look weak against Federer. How dooooes he do it?

Federer is just so amazing its not even funny. The man is a machine. The way he plays. He is the michael jordan of tennis. no matter what you do. he just finds a way. if he was around when sampras was at the top of his game, federer would beat him everytime.

Scary, but true. I remember when he beat Pete at Wimbledon a few years ago. Pete had something like a 31 match winning streak going there and federer just destroyed him. That was the day i realised how great the man is. He made pete look average...at Wimbledon. Guy's amazing

The thing with Federer, is that the guy just turns it on. His last match, in the first set he looked human and average. Then all of a sudden, he just turned it on and dominated the guy. I just want somebody to at least make him look human for the whole match. At least push him to 5 sets. I can only hope maybe Agassi can. Hewiit definitely can't. Hell, maybe Nalbandian can beat him - he actually has a winning record against Federer.

Definitely a great match, now we get some so so matches tomorrow with Fed Vs. Nalbandian, and Hewitt Vs. the unknown Jarko Nieminen. Nalbandian has a winning record against Fed, but Raja has dominated him since he became the man.

Co-sign. As much as I wanted Blake to win Federer would have demilished him in the final.

I've never watched doubles before, but this is pathetic. This is not tennis, this is real life ping pong. So slow and so freaking boring.

Oh, Blake should have won. Missed like three opportunities (third set, fifth set, 3-0 tiebreak). Oh well.

Davenport. :( Demented or whatever the hell her name is sucks. Davenport was so off her game.

Sharapova....I don't think she is gonna beat Clijsters. Clijsters of "I LOOK LIKE HAROLD FROM HEY ARNOLD" fame.

No kidding. I don't even know anyone on the circuit who COULD beat him...Safin maybe...Nadal perhaps.

Much like Sampras, it'd be a nice way to end your career on if Agassi can take out the title. I do think, however, the winner will be from the following semi -- read: Federer. But as an Aussie, I can't help but still root for that knobhead, Hewitt.

So, c'mon Huey...

C'MON!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, Agassi's already won the US open! * :)

*excluding Federer, who looks to steamroll Hewitt from the first set.

Gotta give props to Hewitt, the man is extremely resilient. Federer definitely looked mortal out there, a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes on balls that were sure winners (for him at least). If he doesn't fix his back hand by tomorrow Agassi might have a chance. Don't bank on it though.

I am having difficulty watching this match. Clijsters just seems to be on another level and Pierce looks visibly upset and its making me sad.

I just saw Madame Butterfly last night. I can't take two evenings of devastated women.
