Mercs is awesome. Buy it now!Iam Canadian said:Hm, Lit and Mercs are both games I haven't really heard of, yet people seem to be excited about.
Intriguing!

This actually looks awesome, and is exactly what I'm looking for in WiiWare.
It's not too bad, but it does have two modes. The arcade mode, which is your standard run and gun fair with new weapons and lots of death. And then Original mode, which is a story mode, where you have to explore through the levels trying to track down the members of your squad, each of which comes with their own weapons and life bar. Each member has one life.Jiggy said:I'm not sure why I'm so apprehensive about MERCs considering that I have nineteen VC games just counting space shooters and run-and-guns and whatever you'd like to call Turrican, but it probably has something to do with the first comment on VC-Reviews saying that it should take less than half an hour to beat.
Is it at least really difficult?

Don't be apprehensive. Mercs is awesome! I predict you'll enjoy it. I still play it from time to time on my Megadrive.Jiggy said:I'm not sure why I'm so apprehensive about MERCs considering that I have nineteen VC games just counting space shooters and run-and-guns and whatever you'd like to call Turrican, but it probably has something to do with the first comment on VC-Reviews saying that it should take less than half an hour to beat.

Even though Lit's caused a ton of stress during my review run of the game, I'm impressed with the creative concept enough that I'm willing to deal with the annoying inconsistencies and repetitive trial-and-error. The whole "use the lights" mechanic is refreshingly unique, and there's definitely a sense of satisfaction after you've figured out the room's solution.

It does rely on some 'trial and error' gameplay. If you mess up and miss with your slingshot you'll have to restart the stage. Some sort of "rewind" option would have been a good idea. However if you properly scout the room from a safe spot you shouldn't have to resort to 'trial and error' at all.
shidoshi said:See, I considered that a positive. *heh* I liked that it's just BAM, game starts, and you have to figure out what to do.
There is a bit of trial and error in the game, which is something I might have seen as an annoyance, but LIT reloads each room very quickly and we're talking one small room to deal with versus say doing a decent chunk of a platformer or something then dying due to having a situation not at all be understandable the first time through.

You haven't seen bosses 4 or 5, not to mention the last 5 levels. Those should keep you busy for a while. Plus you unlock Dark Mode once you've beaten the game, and that gets very brutal very fast.
To be honest, this sounds so good to me. I love that feeling of being completely lost and trying to figure out how things work. Im probably just weird though :lolDragona Akehi said:Negatives:

Nice! Thanks for the info, Im about to jump in.Dragona Akehi said:It's either 60fps or 30fps I can't tell (because I wasn't looking for it). Never ever had a hitch on the framerate at all.
And yes, if you like properly designed "trial and error" you'll love this. The best part is that it isn't really trial and error. If you sit from your safe spot and plot the room with your flashlight the solution (or at least your first step) will jump out at you.

Nope, I feel the same way. That's why we made the game this way. You'll see if you buy it. Although we step you into the game through a few easy puzzles first, right from the first menu you're on your own.abstract alien said:To be honest, this sounds so good to me.
