My 2 cents on this atrocity of a PPV

Let's take it fromt he top shall we?

So Benoit goes from main eventing to curtain jerking in less than a year... fantastic. At least he got the title off of Buckwheat "O-tay" Jordan.

Angle vs Eugene: Decent enough, but they keep forgetting how to use their characters. Eugene was brought in as a wrestling idiot savant who had a counter for everything. Angle slaps on the ankle lock once and it's over.... um ok.

Hardy Vs. Edge... Shawn... stop drinking the Kool-aid on this angle. That's all it is, and it went EXACTLY as I said it would. Edge won(stoppage, same difference) due to dirty tactics to continue the feud. It went exactly the way it was supposed to and just came out sloppy and pissed off the crowd with the WCW-style finish. Yes, the kick to the head looked stiff, but that was the point.

There is nothing for Hardy after his run with Edge and I wouldn't be surprised if they release him again. He's a career mid-carder and nothing more.

Eddie vs Guerrero: Why is it these 2 can have a great match with everyone but each other? This was a ladder matach wrapped in dumb ass premise and blown spots. The psychology just wasn't there for me and I'm glad this stupid-ass story is done.

What's next? Rey mom on a pole match?

Cena vs. Jericho: I knew the result to this already, but Jericho had me believing he could win this despite his leaving. He CARRIED Cena through the whole match and the crowd caught on to it. After that they proceeded to boo Cena and chan for Jericho for the rest of the match. The "Rocky Maiavia" effect is in full force (if youre unsure thats whne the crowd turns on you after being forced down their throats)

JBL vs Batista. Um... yeah. Why are EITHER of these guys pushed? Both of them big oafs who can't seem to string together a decent match. Next.

Hogan vs. Michaels: Ok this match pissed me off to NO END. Michaels is a hell of a worker, quite possibly one of the top 3 best in-ring workers EVER. Hogan... not even in the same ballpark.

Michaels was so handcuffed through the whole thing by Grandpa Hogan and not once did we see Michaels do his thing. What purpose does Hogan winning serve? He's not going to be around and why make Michaels look so damn weak in the process? This match could have been used to springboard HBK as a solid heel into the main event against Cena and carry him through a match or two.
Hell, after tonight Hogan is gone again anyway, why have him win over one of the top heels and a regular worker on your program? Makkes no damn sense, other than stroking the ego of one 51 year-old, washed up legend.

It's like they did everything possible to make Michaels look bad. Hogan did NOTHING in this match, except a nasty blade job. Hogan moves around the ring with the grace of a sedated hippo.

Fuck Hogan, I hate that overbearing asshole. He just needs to go off and rot somewhere. Show your face every once in a great while for the cheap pop. But never, EVVVVVEEER step foot in a match again.

Oh and the handshake.... WHAT THE FUCK!?!?! It made no damn sense to have him do that. He's spent the last 4 weeks running Hogan into the ground and he shakes his hand after the loss? HUH?

At best, I give the show a 6.5 out of 10.

That was the absolute worst bit for me, even after the Cena win (which I knew would happen though I had hoped for at least a short Jericho title run) and the Hogan win (had a fair idea of this as well, but I did have hope for a HBK win), but that handshake utterly wasted the last four solid weeks of heel HBK with those promos counting for shit now and have pretty much turned him back into the sissy face shit we've had to put up with for the past two years.

As for the matches -

Benoit vs Jordan - (No grade)
Hardy vs Edge - (D+)
Angle vs Eugene - (C-)
Guerrero vs Mysterio - (B+)
Undertaker vs Orton - (B)
Cena vs Jericho - (B-)
JBL vs Batista - (D+)
Hogan vs HBK (C-)

DUELING CROWDS ROCKED THE BODY THAT ROCKED THE PARTY!!!!!

Lets Go Cena

other side yelling

Lets Go Jericho

It was like Brock/Goldberg at Mania

and due to 1/2 the SD roster getting their ass kicked last night and probably sore, I'm NOT going to tonight SD house show.

THIS SHIT IS REEEAAAALLLLLL...

Whatever.

To sum it up, the show sucked....

Yeah...but at the same time WWE could put on a dream show with great matches up and down the card and you would still hate on them just for not being TNA or ROH. :D

No, that's not the case at all. I'm stilll a big fan of WWE and wrestling as a whole. I will raise WWE if they impress me, but that hasn't happened lately. The last show of WWE's I really liked and bought on PPV and DVD was ECW: ONS.

Before that was WM21 and previously was Survivor Series which I attended and bought on DVD. Chances are I'll go to next years Mania or any PPV that comes to Cleveland.

I like WWE when they put on a good show. Last night's PPV to me seemed like a whole mess of half matches. Cena being carried by Y2J, Michaels carrying Grapndpa, The Eddie v Rey fiasco... it's just not any good. It certainly did not feel like the 2nd biggest PPV of the year to me. It all felt so rushed and cobbled together.

I just saw Batista in a car going to the arena. :D He was wearing a suit o_O

IT'S NOT A GIMMICK FOLKS!

8:11 -- Yep, Benoit used the German suplex and the Crossface to win the title in about five seconds. Good to see the WWE is still practicing the old SD Jones Policy with black wrestlers -- in other words, come out, dance around, lose in under 20 seconds.
hey, that's not true, lots of white wrestlers come out and get squashed in 20 seconds

No actually.. I dont. I can take it down if you wish.
No I fixed it for you already. SA has a nasty habit of switching linked pics to lemonparty-style visuals. Bleergh.

:lol Didn't see it, didn't want to see it, but of course Simmons makes me wish I had.

8:16 -- Time for a grudge match between Matt Hardy and Edge, who stole Hardy's girlfriend, Lita, away from him a few months ago, causing Hardy to flip out to the point that the WWE briefly released him, then rehired him after the fans demanded his return. The lesson, as always: Never fall for a girl whose right shoulder is covered in tattoos.

8:22 -- Take this for what you will, but Hardy and Edge look like they're actually punching each other -- this is like a UFC match. Did wrestling become real and nobody told me? This is unbelievable. Is every match like this?

8:24 -- "When you think about it, Matt Hardy's life has been ruined forever," Coach tells us for the 19th time in three minutes. Come on. You could go to any strip joint in Vegas and find a skinny chick with an attitude who's covered in tattoos. Um, not that I would know.
:lol :lol

I wish Orlando jordan gets Fired.

I wish that Vince realises that Steph sucks at booking, while she hired a butterball who can't book for shit. Get Paul Heyman.... STAT.

10:52 -- Classic Jim Ross here: After getting super-kicked, Hogan kicks out on a two-count as JR screams, "For the love of God! How in the hell did that happen???"

Yup, you know how this one's ending -- couple of punches, big boot, leg drop, one-two-three. That's the great thing about Hulkamania: It's pretty much timeless. I could have been 13 and the match would have ended that way. I could be in my mid-30's and the match would end that way. For some reason, nobody really cares.

Here's my theory: We like seeing the Hulkster win matches with the old Hogan Formula for the same reason we like seeing those dopey reunion shows of "M.A.S.H." or the "Brady Bunch" on TV, or those reunion concerts from the Stones or Bruce or the Eagles, or even those handheld video games where you can play Pong and Intellivision baseball and Donkey Kong. Maybe it's the same stuff, and maybe they're not as good as they were, but they still make you feel like a kid again. It's nostalgia on demand.

:lol :lol :lol

9:15 -- Just my luck, Undertaker is wrestling tonight -- it's his 14th straight Summer Slam, although it feels like it's his 1,400th. I'd rather watch the Chyna-XPac sex tape on a 200-foot plasma TV than see the Undertaker wrestle again.
Bill Simmons said:
9:30 -- All right, is it possible that Tazz is Tony Danza with tons of makeup on? I'm just asking. Meanwhile, my two pooches (Dooze and Rufus) just had their own wrestling match in the TV room, culminating in Rufus triumphantly humping Dooze while holding a stuffed monkey in his mouth. That's Roofie's thing -- if he's humping someone, he needs a stuffed animal in his mouth. And you know what? We don't judge in our house.
Bill Simmons said:
10:14 -- Tazz and Cole are so brutal together, my head is actually starting to hurt. It's like being stuck inside a car while the alarm is going off, only if you were sitting next to a rattling chainsaw. Remember the scene in "Anchorman" when Brick Tamland just starts screaming, "Loud noises! Loud noises!" That's Michael Cole announcing any wrestling match. I don't know what we're yelling about! Loud noises! Loud noises!
:lol

:lol Simmons is a genius...

8:30 -- Now we're ready for a "Custody of Dominic" match. Who's Dominic, you ask? He's an 8-year-old with bleached hair who just found out that he's the son of former WWE champ Eddie Guerrero, even though Rey Mysterio Jr. (another wrestler) has been raising him. Now Rey and Eddie are settling things the way most Americans do in this situation -- by battling in a wrestling ring with a 10-foot ladder, with Dominic watching from ringside. This was actually the original plot for "Over the Top" before Stallone switched to the truck-driving/arm-wrestling idea.

8:59 -- And the guy who gets custody of Dominic is … Rey Mysterio! Tazz sums up everyone's feelings by gushing, "Dominic is going where he belongs!" Yup, going home to a guy who wears a mask and pretends to beat the hell out of other guys. Sounds promising. Can we set him up with Courtney Love's kid in a few years?

9:05 -- Our next match: Kurt Angle (the former '96 gold medalist in Atlanta) against Eugene, (a brain-damaged version of Hacksaw Jim Duggan) who stole Angle's medal. In the background, you can see the fans fleeing for the concession stands. I'm not even kidding.

9:15 -- Just my luck, Undertaker is wrestling tonight -- it's his 14th straight Summer Slam, although it feels like it's his 1,400th. I'd rather watch the Chyna-XPac sex tape on a 200-foot plasma TV than see the Undertaker wrestle again

9:58 -- Jericho is carrying Cena -- this is like one of those old Utah playoff games where John Stockton would put Karl Malone on his back down the stretch.

:lol :lol :lol

Is it just me, or does that Simmons guy actually come off as another wrestling-hating douche bag during most of that article?

shit is shit. Simmons is just calling it like he sees it. The WWE is doing a lot of stupid things right now. (and he prefaces the article by saying he's not that much into wrestling anymore)

If you read the article you'd know he stopped watching wrestling in 2000, because he hates it.

Anyone else feel one of those "They both get it" endings coming on? This would have been more entertaining if Dominic was hanging above the ring.

:lol :lol I would have watched it just for that.

It seems like alot of these American cities are trying to pull a Toronto (or Edmonton, Montreal) when it comes to cheering for the heel or with a low-card wrestler getting a huge reaction.

I hope it's legit in these American cities, it could get ugly if every PPV we see reverse cheering just for the hell of it.

Holy shit don't tell me you're going to sign your name at the ending of every post of yours just like a few other users even though we can see who makes the post as your name is right next to it already. :(

Best Bill Simmons comment:
8:10 -- Our first match is for the U.S. Championship: Orlando Jordan against Chris Benoit, who has an "I used to headline some of these things, now I'm wrestling some guy named Orlando Jordan?" look on his face. This match will last about as long as Jose Cruz Jr.'s career did with the Red Sox.
:lol

Does the Undertaker even wrestle on regular tv anymore? I always check this board for smackdown spoilers to see if he had a match and its always him in a dark match if in anything at all.
