It was bad enough to see the skus split in two. $299 for just a graphics card upgrade, you get the system and a wired controller. You need to get the $399 system to have access to all the X360 functionality. Then I noticed the pricing for Xbox 360 accessories. For those of you who haven't seen them here is a list of some of the add on prices:

Xbox wired controller - $40
Xbox wireless controller - $50
20 gig HDD - $99
Wireless adapter - $99 (ME = WTF X 10000000000000000000000!!!)
Faceplates - $20

There may be more, but that is what popped out in front of me. Xbox 360 is assfucking consumers 360 different ways! So, here it is, MS has completely screwed up Xbox 360 from its initial unveiling and it just got worse today. Xbots, here is the day you can sign in and turn over your jacket!

:lol :lol just at all the people arguing the HD's would be around 50 bucks. Obviously not familiar with MS branded accessories and hardware. And yea the Wifi adapter was to be expected didn't see a price drop on that anytime soon.

So you pay $299 for a full gaming system. What feature that was announced so far will you lose for that price except retrocompatibility?
It's good for the casuals, that's what matters. The GAF crowd can argue whatever they want, your average joe will only see that he can play all the latest and incredible looking games for $299. And this is what matters for MS.

what is a wireless adapter?

it's a fucking dongle you attach to the outside of your xbox so that it can wirelessly connect to your network. It probably costs them $5 to manufacture (juding by how expensive wireless cards are).

Agh, fucking MS. All my early next-gen hopes have been ruined. No more xbot status for me :(

$50 wireless controllers? $40 wired controllers? that, friends, is some bullshit. $60 games too, i expect. i don't like the idea of waiting for ridge racer 6, but i'm no longer sure that 360 will be worth it at launch.

The wireless adapter lets you hook X360 up to a wireless network. It's the same thing PS3 and Revolution offer out of the box for free but MS is charging 100 dollars for it.

Downloadable content....backwards compatibility...caching to make load times improve...those are just some. Also, MS has no idea how Joe Consumer is going to accept a scaled down version of Xbox 360. They are going to accept 60 dollar games? 50 dollar wireless controllers? 40 dollar wired controllers? 40 dollar memory card? 99 dollar hdd for backwards compatibility? 100 dollars for a wireless adapter when the competition offers it for free? The Xbox 360 offers less than what the xbox does. It is just more powerful. Hence, a graphics card update.

I think it's importance is that MS had a chance to pull up a lead on PS3. With this announcement though you would have to be a Xbot fan or insane not to wait to see what the PS3 price is at this point and that's going to hurt MS. If PS3 can come out at 399 like most people think so then MS will have no advantage. PS3 MIGHT have no HD (not for sure yet) but it does have Wifi built in which as you can see is already a 100 dollar saving over the 360. And at the price of those accessories I can't see anyone buying those 299.99 systems and losing out on two big things for the 360 (wireless controller and HD).

Wait, the core system doesn't come with HD cables?

Yeah, I'm sure they're just throwing it in for free. :lol

$10 more for wired controllers.

And if you actually remember if you wanted to get the best wireless controller for xbox... it was $50 too. (and it still sucks compared to the 360s wireless controllers)

Last time i checked not every house in the world had HDTVs yet.

Blim this core system goes against all the marketing they've done up to this point, can you at least agree to that statement?

They've talked about XBL and everything you can including microstransactions, they've talked about wireless gaming, and they've talked about the advantages having a hard drive brings them.

The XBL stuff can still happen with the mem card.
The wireless gaming now happens... for an additional price.
ditto with the Hard drive.

Personally I'd just like to see a smaller HD in the core system.

And all this talk about entering the HD era... well you can't on the core system.... and those accessories prices... some of them are wow....

One of the most important features to casuals is backward compatibility and that made the system $100 more right there.

Mom & Dad: "So does this new system play your old games?"

"For $100 bucks more it does"

"I don't think so...we'll wait for a price drop"

Holy freaking cash regiters, Batman, those prices on accessories are absolutely insane.

I was going to wait until next year anyway. Now I guess I'll see you in 2008.

Believe it or not, I'm looking foward to hearing more about the revolution o.O

Indeed, I think there's a big chance that the lower pricing might actually work this time when you factor in how expensive everything is turning out with Xbox 360 and with all the expectations of PS3 being higher than 300.

Yeah, but we got to know more of whats inside.

I thought MS coughed up the licensing fees and went with emulation? All you would need then for the games that require specific "patch" files would be a mem card.

Its been some time to digest this and I'm still stunned.

I cannot wait til Major Nelson tries to spin this one.

Have you guys seen the other xbox boards? It's CHAOS.

This is going to kill LIVE btw - no HDD standard = little dev incentive for any major D/L content.

No patches to end the cheating - unless you'd like to fill your mem card that is. Same with marketplace and LIVE arcade.

Yea, a $40 64MB memory card that would fill up fast with patches and downloads or a $99 20gig HD. Which would you choose?

I already have an official XBOX wireless adaptor. Can't I just use my current one with the 360, instead of buying a new one? I mean, they just connect with ethernet, right?

cheapskates, pricing is reasonable

MrBoob am crying :P

Guess who's going to be spamming you with 360 game invites in November

*Prine invites thee to Next Gen gaming with Perfect Dark Zero*

*Deline? Cheapskate*
*Accept? Winnar*

I can't imagine that I'll play more than a handful of games from the current gen on the 360. I'm keeping the Xbox and if I buy a 360, it won't be so I can play Splinter Cell on it. The launch titles look like they could keep a gamer busy.

Anyway, it doesn't matter which I would choose. If we are talking about "retro" backwards compatibility, then you only need the 360.

Back to reality,

Whoop there goes gravity...

360_wtf.gif

Heh, that's awesome.

Regarding prices, it looks like MS intentially inflated some of these prices to make the value of the deluxe system look better. 99 dollars for the wireless usb adapter....just wow.....

Where can you get a good one for much less? You should already have one anyway :p.

Some of the accessory prices are ridiculous, especially the memory card and wi-fi. What did the official xbox controller s cost?
€400 bundle is pretty good for me anyway, and is what I was expecting. I can most certainly afford it.

haha you called perfect dark zero next-gen

I want to believe :D

Best thing is, ALL THE IDIOTS ON XBL will be filtered out by the high price. Less chance of a 12 year old calling me nigger fag, that alone is worth the price. Online gaming bliss for a few months. Ahhhh

You guys call yourself hardcore gamers! I have spent roughly $10,000 on xbox alone. less than $100 more is not going to hurt me. (especially when you consider the component cables, the headset and the remote.... i'm technically saving money!)

So uh yeah.

I think if you guys are bailing on something this small, you never deserved the jackets in the first place.

Jebus thats some expensive shit right there

isn't wireless the default for the PS3 and Revolution? controller and internet wise

50 bucks for a wireless controller that's some BS right there and 40 bucks for a memory card (though werent the PS2 memory cards that much at first I can't remember)

so now that the HDD is an option even less devs can take real advantage of it than they did with the Xbox

Their first-party adapter for Xbox was over a hundred I think.

The bundle really isn't bad, but I could've done without a headset and remote control for $360.
