My first Catan experience ever, board or otherwise, resulted in me winning with total domination. The game is deep, and I can definitely get into it. Online multiplayer, here I come.

I wonder if anybody is actually going to buy Centipede and Millipede?

I'm sure someone will. I'm wondering if the creators of games like Gyruss and Millipede are angry about their games being released along with games like Mini Golf and Catan.

Damn, me gowans and my mate have been playing for 3 and a half hours. the first game was a bit painful but the second and now we're on the third have been just amazing. We've already gotten the hang of it and are now attempting to destroy eachother in glorious battle. :lol

I would not be surprised if they are #1 for this week on XBLA.
It's really obvious that the sentiment on this board is not the same as the overall gaming population.

I really hope Catan sells well enough to warrant at least 50 more board games on XBLA. I also hope I find lots of new people to play with/against for said games.

Really I'd be happy with all of the top 10 from BGG. I mean really how much can coding this stuff cost.

I'd like to see board games from both sides of the Atlantic on XBLA, as well as Quiz and Game Show type of games. You Don't Know Jack would be awesome.

Christ, Catan keeps disconnecting on me whenever I try to start an online game. Anyone else with this issue? What can I do to eliminate this problem? Can I erase the game and then download it again or do I have to pay twice then?

& I won wooooooot!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Great game, cant wait to play more but als work!

Just bought Catan and I can already see what people will be bitching about - text size. I'm playing it on a 57" screen and the text still seems too small. I might have to move this over to my projector....

God help SDTV owners. You will cry.

You can delete any Xbox Live content and redownload it for free on the Xbox 360 (as long as the content is still available).

how is centipede/milipede?? I really like to play it NOW!!!, but i´m at work.
I have a feeling that missile command is coming fast too...

Sparktacular. Everywhere you look....sparks. Geometry Wars would be proud.

But it's probably one of the better, if not the best, classic arcade updates on XBLA imo. I still won't buy it but it looks like they actually spent some time on this unlike port-o-shit like Paperboy.

I didn't notice the text being that small on mine.

I was planning on gettin centipede as i had great fun with it back on my atari 2600 but after the demo i changed my mind still good fun, but will save my points for something i'll spend a little more time with.

The evolved version is one of the better ones, yeah, but Jetpac Refuelled is still the arcade update to beat.

Is there any way to turn off the rumble in the updated versions of the 'pede games? I don't know if it's a bug or my controller, but I keep getting a rumble effect that cycles until I completely quit back to the dashboard.

Same here. The netcode is really dreadful. I managed to join a game after trying for fifteen minutes, but then everytime someone ended their turn it took a minute before the next player could start their turn.

It's always the same shit with Xbox Live, how people are praising this service is beyond me.

Sigh, anyway, besides that, the game itself is really well done, except the small font.

Yes, I've been saying this forever; it's my one remaining VG crusade. It's too bad the 360 didn't come with a kb b/c YDKJ and Acrophobia would be awesome on XBL (though YDKJ would still work, just without some of the type-in-the-answer type questions, that were actually among the best unfortunately). I've skipped out on the recent golden age of XBLA (last game I got was Worms), but I think this will be really fun and for a while I will probably just play against the CPU, which I actually often prefer to XBL b/c I can take breaks, etc. (which was why the awful AI in Worms drove me nuts).

Also I will reiterate my request for Robo Rally. Been playing with the wife and it is so well-suited to XBLA; really the perfect combination of luck and skill and tons of surprises (especially in a 4p game) and the added bonus of simultaneous turns.

Problem with YDKJ is the size limitations. The charm from the game comes from the tons of funny voicework and large amount of questions.

For YDKJ they could do streaming like the old Netshow, but then it would be online only. Which I would be cool with but I can understand why others wouldn't be.

I don't care whether it's Xbox Live's fault or the developer's fault.

I don't know about you, but I've been playing online games on the PC for the last decade and have NEVER experienced the amount of issues I've had with Xbox Live in the last few years. Mind you, I also never had to pay a single dime to play online on the PC.

The appropriate model for YDKJ (and any other trivia game) would be to release a medium-sized (up to the limit) original base edition for something like 600 points, then question packs for 100-200. As long as the base game is good enough to attract attention (and anything near the quality of YDKJ through The Ride would), the DLC would be a cash cow. As far as online, I think it's impossible to make a workable online trivia game unless you make it so that people can't see the same question twice (i.e., the game registers when a player has seen a question and that player won't be asked it again online) to make a somewhat level playing field, but unless you had people churning out questions 24 hours a day, anything else wouldn't really work. Now games like Acrophobia would certainly work but no kb kills that. Definitely looking forward to more board games though.

Bummer... I didn't realize Catan would not have a demo. I will probably buy it anyway since the praise is so high.

It will have a demo. If it isn't showing up right now, it's a Marketplace configuration issue that will probably be resolved in the next few hours.

You haven't been gaming outside of AAA titles on the PC if you've never encountered games that have had tons of latency, connection and assorted online issues.
I will agree though that Microsoft does need to test online games in production type environments. I don't think that partnernet etc offers them enough realistic situations to correctly certify that the game will function properly when put out "in the wild".

When I booted up my 360 this morning, it downloaded the Catan trial version automatically because I've got the auto download thingy turned on. I didn't play the demo 'cause I turned around and bought it right after it finished but I know a demo was downloaded.

Never played the original Jetpac but I thought it was an old Spectrum game, not an arcade game. Guess I need to re-read that history thing in the main menu.

Oh, I just thought about retro games. Then again, what other arcade games have souped up visuals on XBLA (not counting so-called "enhanced" modes in games like Gauntlet)?

centipede and milipede are indeed very very solid!!! great versions!!!!
and yes I have a rumble problem too...it keeps rumbling!!! :lol
