Wow, after seeing the trailer... I'm actually interested. Slow old Pac-man really holds no interest in me after speed hack Ms., but seeing the "evolving" maze, where you unlock the next set of pellets, the speed increasing as you go on, it really looks like a lot of fun.

Still no multiplayer?

What is it with Namco and their hatred towards multiplayer in any shape or form? I can understand they didn't add any in Pac-Man if Nintendo holds the rights to MP Pac-Man, but what's their excuse with Galaga? They didn't even include co-op in Galaga XBLA...

Championship Edition does look pretty, but it should've been 400 MS Points.

I was very interested until I heard the 800 Points cost. Also a bit worried about how it will control with the 360 controller at the speeds shown in that video. The original Pac Man has control issues and it's way slower.

Gastronaut Studios sends over word that there will be a new free update for their popular Xbox Live Arcade fighting-action game Small Arms on Wednesdat. The free update will contain bug fixes and enhancements to the game. In addition a content expansion for the game will also be released on Wednesday that will cost 250 Microsoft points. The content update will include two new playable characters, two new levels, and two new Xbox Live Achievements.

Dammit, so much for me being #1 for Small Arms on the GAF leaderboard. I don't think I'll be buying that new content. Hopefully they are smart and allow people that don't have the new content to play with people that do.
I've grown horribly sick of Small Arms, but as an achievement junkie, I've been anticipating the first XBLA to make use of the expanded achievement list feature. Too bad the first game is Small Arms, because I'm too curious to see what the new achievement window (I can't help it!) looks like.

Oh well, at least 250 points is nothing and the achievements are retarded easy. (Play through mission mode as one of the new characters, host the new maps online.)

Haven't played Small Arms for a long while on Live but are there lots of people playing it still?

I feel games like this die very quickly. During release people buy it, play the hell out of it for couple of weeks then move on. Lots of people won't even notice this download.

Wierd thing about Pac Man is that it controls better the faster it goes.

Wow - another announcement guessed dead-on - if only every GAFfer was as level-headed and not an over-hyper like the ones who guessed this...

Looks very cool...

Probably not, but there are enough achievement whores for there to be a resurrection tomorrow.

I am all over this new Pac Man game. This is the way retro titles should be done! First Jetpac and now this. Awesome!

Hope you got point saved up for next week then.

Carcassonne was supposed to be here this week but alas it was not to be.

Well they better release something decent next week because I've got 800 points to spend and soon no internet for the forseeable future.

I love the idea of championship edition but the 800 mspoints just seems so so wrong on so many levels.

Agree i already have ms pacman and normal on my hdd they should do some sort of r trade in value :lol . I like the look of that but id be damned if im paying 800 points for it after having bought the last two.

Pac-Man CE is up!

And I'm #3 on the leaderboards for Extra Mode 2!

EDIT: This game is absolutely worth every one of those 800 points. It's not just Pac-Man. Videogame history has been made!

EDIT2: I'm serious. It feels like playing Pac-Man for the first time.

How are the controls, they blew on the first version of Pac-Man. 360 controller ftl :(

I told myself I wouldn't spend 800 points on this game but I dunno now....

It truly is like playing Pac-Man for the first time. This version is a lot more fun to play IMO.

Yep. Definitely the best Pac Man ever. And it feels leagues better with the analog stick now. I never get stuck in corners and I am shredding Ghosts now.

So worth it.

Wow, this game is awesome :lol I was NOT expecting that. i THINK its worth 800 points. The D-Pad is absolute horseshit. i cant say how many times that shit got me killed already.

This came out of nowhere. Was expecting a mediocre Cash-In Game and got a ****ing Masterpiece. Totaly wort 800 Points. The Modes are awsome and the Timelimit on each is just right. I love the Mode with the Changing Levels.

It does look pretty damn good, and the demo was pretty fun too.

But am I correct to say it doesn't include an 'original' Pac-Man mode in there at all? No untimed, regular Pac-Man using the original board, or a mode whee you do a regular Pac-Man game but it goes to a different board each time you complete the last?

No Unlimited Time, Extra Mode 3 does something similar to the Board Change in that the Level Layout changes every Time you pick up a Fruit.

So just checked out the demo

First on the Graphics I'm not a big fan of the Neon dance style effect thats now the trend to whack on a retro game, I would have much prefered a cleaner more cartoon styled modern look but hey its ok, crisp, clean and does the job.

Then the game so I start and ok wow only parts of the map have pills dots to eat and there drip fead in continuous stages, "this is different, is this pac-man? oh well" and I keep playing its fun and seems to take the a page from Geometry wars in the single evolving stage technique which makes this alot easyer to at the start than any other pac-man as I was having no problems what so ever.

Also the controls with the stick seemed to work perfectly, no wrong or missed turns at all.

Then the demo timed out :(

In all the game is pretty much what I expected, would I recommend this over the original Pac-man? To someone new to pac-man yes I think if they wanted to play a pac-man game then this on play of the demo seems to have the most potential for accessibility and longevity but for someone who knows, played and enjoyed the original I would recommend the cheaper original above this as the level structure is a defining part of pac-man.

in all from the demo it hasn't clicked with me, maybe I would have been more likly to buy if it was DLC at a cheaper price for the existing pac-man or maybe if I was just more of a pac-man fan.

Tried the demo - had more fun with it than I expected. I love the whole competitive nature of it, for some reason it feels more present in this version. Hopefully enough people will pick it up so we can get a GAF tourney going. There seems to be a whole new strategic element added to the game by expanded the level when you pick up fruits.

I know I've said it before but a game like this screams for multiplayer. A tournament mode with a lobby wouldve made so much sense.

I think Small Arms wins the worst DLC award. The two new characters are just skins for existing characters (the girl ninja and the knight are now a sabretooth tiger and an elephant) and one of the two new levels sucks ass. It's only 250, but still. Don't call skins "new characters", you ****ers.

Oh, and the new XBLA achievement window I was looking forward to seeing...doesn't exist. When you get 14/14 (235 possible gamerscore) in Small Arms, the window doesn't expand. It still only shows 12/12 and you have to go into "achievement details" to see the other two. Lame!

Just passed your score on the championship mode :D 3 ranks ahead of you CB.Awesome game.

You're the only one on my friends list so far that has bought it,I have 98 people on my list :lol

Pac-Man CE is a whole lotta fun. I do wish it was a little more fully featured though. I like being able to watch a replay of my game afterward but it woulda been nice to be able to save that and share it with friends -- or at least upload it so you can see how the top players attack a maze (Tetris Evolution has something similar to this, actually, where you can watch a top player's replay). It's also sorely missing multiplayer, which would've added a nice dimension to the game.

Kinda winced at the price -- $10 is a lot for what is mostly bare bones Pac-Man with a timed element. Like some've said with Calling All Cars, it doesn't quite seem like you're getting $10 worth of game here. Would've been nice to get a discount if you'd already bought the regular edition of Pac-Man (which I did...I'm a sucker).

Lumines does it too, and does it very well. Any game you play that earns you a leaderboard spot (anywhere on the board) gets saved and uploaded, so you can watch how pretty much anyone played at any time. Doesn't exactly help for Lumines, but it's still an awesome feature. Wish more games had it. Wish more XBLA games had a lot of things. Oh well.

The auto-update for Small Arms fixed the broken achievements and balanced the weapons better. It might be worth checking the game out again.

Thanks for that I just booted it up, I had 101 wins and no achievement for it for ages, so the new updated fixed it so that when I played the next match I got it right after... :D

I still need the challenge X50 one, but I want to play more Pacman CE instead...

What are the achievements like in CE? Easy/reasonable/ridiculous?

Pretty reasonable. Most of them are just "complete mode X". There's also one for getting 200k points, and ones for snagging some of the late-game items. The only one I see myself having real trouble getting is the 400k point one. That is going to be rough.
