Standard note to everybody, never take a Microsoft list of upcoming games at face value, there will be titles that get delayed and announced titles will pop up in their place.

Sorry for bump, didn't know where else to put it.

In Carcassonne, is there a button to press during online to voice chat? Am I being ignored or am I missing something??:lol

Rez coming in the "next few weeks"? Niiiicccceeee.

Where do you see "next few"?...

I read "coming weeks"

(soon enough, I'm sure, but it sounds like early '08 is probably still on target.)

Lumines is at 800 now, but Marble Blast Ultra is still at 800 not 400
Might just be because today isn't december 4th? Just a wild guess.

Sorry to say you're being ignored. There's nothing special you have to do to chat, but since the game doesn't require any chatting nobody ever has their mic on.

Then there is a good chance they were in their own private chat and never heard you talking to yourself. Keep your chin up.

Well now, this is awkward, the current object of everybody's hatred, Gamespot has up a brand new "First-Look" of the upcoming XBLA game Schizoid. Complete with new images and videos.

Schizoid Hands-On First Look
We get an exclusive look at the first Xbox Live Arcade game created with the XNA Game Studio, coming from Torpex Games.

It may have taken a few years, but Microsoft's XNA initiative has finally borne some real fruit. The Xbox 360 maker positioned XNA as an easily accessible development platform for small-time and indie developers to create games that would work on both the 360 and Windows. Early next year, Bellevue, Washington-based developer Torpex Games will become the first developer to release an XNA-developed game, Schizoid, on Xbox Live Arcade. We got the exclusive first hands-on with the game to see what kind of mind-bending stuff Torpex has come up with.

Schizoid is like the two-player hybrid love child of Geometry Wars and classic Japanese shooter Ikaruga. You've got an overhead action stage full of brightly colored, abstract enemies. Half of the enemies are blue, and half are orange. You've also got two ships, each controlled by one of two players. One ship is blue, one orange. See where this is going? Each ship can only destroy enemies of like color (by colliding with them; there are no guns), while one brush with an enemy of the other color means doom. Thankfully, when you die, you'll respawn right on top of your partner's ship, and since sticking close together to defend each other seems to be the best strategy so far, this can sometimes help you out when you're in the thick of a big mess of enemies.

The action can get more than a little intense at times.

Like in Geometry Wars, there are multiple enemy types, each of which has its own behaviors. A starfish-shaped enemy will rush at the other-colored ship, but rapidly flee from the same-colored one. An egg-laying enemy called a breeder drops eggs in a straight line as it travels, and those eggs will quickly turn into more aggressive enemies, so you need to take out their progenitor at the source. Some enemies will even evolve into an indestructible form if you leave them alone too long. The more intense the action gets, the more you have to verbally communicate a strategy with your partner, such as leapfrogging back and forth to destroy alternating waves of orange and blue enemies to keep you both alive.

Though there aren't any guns, per se, there are a handful of power-ups available in some levels. In the co-op spirit, one player can pick up and drag around a power-up, but both ships have to cross paths to actually activate it. One item is a simple smart-bomb that destroys enemies in a circle around you, while another allows you both to speed up temporarily (which is an indispensable ability). The most interesting one is the razor wire, which literally creates a wire strung between your two ships, which you can use to sweep or encircle a wave of enemies and kill them safely from a distance.

Power-ups like the razor wire will make your life easier--temporarily.

The game seems to be pretty thick with content, as there are over 100 playable levels included for you to plow through. Once you've unlocked new levels (in sets of seven), you can go back and replay them individually to attempt a better score. Then there's an infinite mode that will spew enemies at you ad infinitum We only tried the game two-player locally with two controllers on the same system, but the final game will also have cooperative play over Xbox Live (which we didn't get to try out). Finally, if you're a total masochist, you can unlock the "uberschizoid" mode, which allows you to play by yourself, controlling each ship with one of the controller's two sticks. We got a few levels into this mode before our brains literally split in half (okay, not literally, but close). You thought walking and chewing gum at the same time was hard? Luckily, there's also a standard one-player mode where the computer controls the other ship, but in our experience the game was much more fun with another player we could actively strategize with.

Schizoid has got an attractive look and a unique, cooperative-focused gameplay hook, so we're looking forward to checking out a more complete build of the game in the coming weeks. Look for more soon.

I am aware that it is the trendy fashion to raise the steely ire of the wrath against the Gamespot due to recent circumstances, but the sad fact of the matter is they will not die in day, and as we can see, they still have information relevant to this thread in production.

Funnily enough the extra content for Boom Boom Rocket is available on the Australian XBLA, while the actual game still isn't. Talk about rubbing your face in it!

I downloaded the content anyway in case the game eventually gets released here.

With Lumines and Billiards down to 1200 points, are there any XBLA games remaining at that price point? It seems too expensive for an Arcade game when Xbox Originals are 1200 points, so maybe we will no longer see 1200 XBLA games.

I think Boom Boom Rocket is actually avaliable in the Australian 'Arcade' pack with Pac Man etc.. but not available on XBLA itself. How stupid.

Will get Marble Blast Ultra.

As for 1200 point games, only Puzzle Quest is at that point, and is worth it so I hear. Billard on the other hand, isn't even worth 800.

Hands-on previews for some of the XLBA games mentioned above (TeamXbox):

Arkadian Warriors

Boogie Bunnies

Commanders: Attack of the Genos

Aces of the Galaxy
Nice to see some different types of games on XBLA for a change.

I won't buy any of them, though, no matter how good they are, as they're all being published by Sierra Online. I mean, Vivendi Games. I mean, Activision Blizzard. Who's after-sales support of its other XBLA games has been atrocious. There is stuff in Switchball and Assault Heroes that has never been fixed.

Did those free Boom Boom Rocket tracks ever get put on the marketplace?
Is it me, or have they ramped up the speed of the camera movements on the new levels? I found myself feeling sick playing them earlier, and never had the same problem before in the main game.

“N+” (Slick Entertainment and Metanet Software Inc.). Gamers can play as an acrobatic ninja in this addictive action-puzzle platformer. “N+” features inadvertently homicidal robots, stylish graphics, a level editor and intense multiplayer awesomeness.
Sweet, they finally confirmed it. Was getting the game with or without the level editor though.

Lavaworld, Stage 1. V-Sync (doesn't bother me, but does a lot of people). Etc.
What's wrong with Lavaword, Stage 1? Finished the entire game recently and didn't experience anything odd there.

You're right about the screen tearing though. Pity that there's so much of it.

Reminds me that on xbox.com/en-AU they have advertised Katamari gamerpics for a month now, and you still can't download them. It's like someone forgot to hit the go button.

Rez HD is going to be great, yes, but N+ is where the action is going to be! I love the original game, it was an addictive little bastard platformer and I really really hope the new version is good.

Get the original here.
I think N has the best pure platforming in video gaming. It's brutally hard though.

I think they might have changed something in the game in general... can't really put my finger on it, but even on older songs I was having a bit of an issue just keeping track of the notes... I think the game has sorta worn on me, though. Glad I think I more or less felt I'd gotten my value out of it.

This might be a silly question, but are these games playable if you discontinue using Live? I'm all over Rez HD, but don't plan on keeping Live beyond the month-long trial period.

I think you've misunderstood how xbox live membership works. X-Box Live Silver is completely free, and that lets you download games on marketplace, download game updates, maintain a friendslist, save scores to leaderboards and other online-related stuff.

X-Box Live Gold is not free, and that has all the features as above with the addition of online play.

With that said, downloaded games will work on the console it was downloaded on, or while being online with the account which purchased the game. So even if you decide to never log onto X-Box Live again you'll be able to play the purchased games while playing on the same console. Although, I'd recommend you at least keep using xbox live silver so you can try new games.

I had indeed misunderstood, thanks. Seeing how I don't care about the online multiplayer aspect of Live, there's no reason I need to think about anything but the Silver route.

Does anyone keep track of all the games that have been announced for XBLA? It would be nice to get a complete list of all future games every few months or so.

Wikipedia is your friend.

Well, "magic hour" has come and gone and there has been no word what if any new XBLA games will be uploaded this week, what this means, well, from what I have gathered, the dual launching of the Arcade Greatest Hits and Xbox Originals programmes tomorrow seems to be all the activity this week, in short it looks like there are no new Xbox Live Arcade games to be released this week.
