Well, if they're phasing out the cards I would think that would be to change the pricing of Xbox Live. I doubt they change it upwards, so I would just wait.

What the hell is the deal with Penny Arcade: Episode 3 and 4? It's been over 9 months since the second chapter came out and I haven't heard a single peep about the next two. It's really bumming me out because I was going to wait for the full package to be up before playing but it's just sitting there and I'm in the mood for a quirky RPGish game.

The Warriors: Street Brawl

Platform: Xbox 360

Rating: Teen

Content descriptors: Animated Blood, Mild Language, Violence

Rating summary: This is a 3-D, side-scrolling fighting game in which players battle their way through rival gangs' turf in New York City. Players frequently punch, kick, or use weapons (knives, wrenches, pipes, bats, etc.) to attack enemies that grunt or cry out in pain. The hand-to-hand combat is frenetic and is accompanied by realistic punching and impact sounds from weapons. Players have the ability to whack thugs in the face as they are lying on the ground in order to empty their life meters. In one still-image cutscene, a man is shot in the chest, and a brief splash of blood is depicted near his back. Some expletives (e.g., "goddamnit" and "hell") appear in the dialogue.

Things on Wheels

Platform: Xbox 360

Rating: Everyone

Rating summary: In Things On Wheels, players race remote-controlled cars through a mansion. Users can pick up bonus items during races that will enhance their cars' abilities.

In such video, he says he received 2 cheap 12 month Xbox Live access cards for cheap, from ... live.com? (i don't know, i can't hear that part), and apparently they're phasing out the Live Access codes, and that's why they are getting rid of them.

This video, at around 2:15.

Anybody has any knowledge on this subject/rumor? Should I raid Ebay for cheap 12 month access codes, like the ones posted here a couple weeks earlier?
I can't qualify this rumor but it would explain a few things I've been seeing at work. 12-month tokens are being given away like candy.

Does this mean ToW definitely still exists?

Son of a bitch. Just thought I'd take a tour through my recent billing and somehow I bought the "Halo Wars Strategic Options Pack." Best guess is somehow my son (less than a year old, so I can't blame him :) got a hold of a controller. God damn it. It's on my console, so clearly I "bought it" somehow.

So my question after getting off the phone with Microsoft support people who are useless is whether there's a way to tell if a purchase has been made from the website or my console. I'm not too worried if it was made from my console (my bad), but if it came from the web, that is a concern, because I either was directed through a link that "bought" the pack for me (unlikely) or my account was somehow compromised (probably pretty unlikely too, especially since it's the only unexplained purchase).

Of course, no way to get a refund for it, even though I don't own Halo Wars, since "it's not Microsoft's fault." Guess it's time for a password change, just to be safe.

What are some good cooperative games on Arcade?

I got Castle Crashers and Magic the Gathering so far.

How is Rocketmen? Any fun and how long does it last?

If anybody has any suggestions for fun 4-player co-op games please do suggest.

Rocketmen Axis of Evil? Not very good. Commando 3 is better in that respect, but has 3 players. You may enjoy Assault Heroes too, though they're 2 player only. Rocket Riot is a great multiplayer game with cooperative modes.

Highly suggest 'Splosion Man when it comes out in a couple weeks time.

Just came in the thread to say that I've been playing a shit load of N+ again recently. I've forgotten how addictive and well put together the game is. As a small, pure platformer it can't be beat.

Extra handy is just how quick it is to restart and retry levels - you can literally get killed (or kill yourself) and restart in under a second.

Quarrel

Press Release PROVIDED BY GAMES PRESS

Dundee, Scotland, July 13th, 2009. Videogame audio experts Jack’s Hoose Music are all a-quiver about creating the samba-tastic audio for Denki’s new Xbox LIVE Arcade title Quarrel.

Quarrel’s unique blend of strategic and word-based gaming will be jazzed-up and effervesced by an original and inspiring mixture of Latin American, Lounge and Easy Listening music combined with the unique vocal stylings of Denki’s chief creative whiz and all-round Gary Penn (the voice behind Grand Theft Auto, GTA 2 and Tanktics, fact fans).

The Quarrel house band starts grooving behind the scenes, from the moment the game’s fired up. The talented and eclectic ensemble provides everything from warm percussion on the opening menus, through to encouraging, joyful or cheeky comments on each player’s performance. Until your vocabulary skills have been celebrated by a moustachioed, maraca-wielding musician, you’ve never really enjoyed a game properly.

“I'm feeling intense pleasurable excitement to be working with Denki on such a sound project,” says Ged Grimes, the founder and managing director of Jack’s Hoose Music. “Denki’s approach to Quarrel audio represents a sultry Latin twist for videogames. I can't wait for players to hear the results.”

Jack’s Hoose Music has composed and produced music soundtracks for a wide range of games, from music-based titles such as Amplitude and Pop Idol, through to action blockbusters such as Enter The Matrix.

Gary Penn, Denki’s creative boffin, said, “I'm amped to have Jack’s Hoose Music on board. Ged is widely recognised as a maestro in his field and the opportunity to work with him on our first Xbox LIVE Arcade title was one we couldn’t resist. We wanted the band to provide so much more than just background music to Quarrel. The whole live vibe creates so much more character. Ged’s brought the whole band to life, put them in the game and they’re playing – just for you. He's totally in tune with the Denki Difference which means every single element of the Quarrel audio will be as dramatic and entertaining as the game itself.”

Spearfishing Stabs XBLA, PC

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/100/1003114p1.html

by Daemon Hatfield

July 13, 2009 - Russian developer Biart has announced an Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) and PC game based on the underwater sport of spearfishing. Appropriately titled Spearfishing, Biart says it is aiming to give players an authentic aquatic hunting experience. There is a wide variety of titles available on XBLA, but this has to be a first.

Players will begin with a training course to learn all about stabbing fish, then work their way through the amateur and pro competition circuits. Tournaments are set in some of the world's most exotic, beautiful locales in both arctic and tropical waters. A variety of multiplayer modes will be available on XBLA.

New Soccer Game On Its Way To XBLA?

s a new Soccer game on its way to the Xbox Live Arcade? Quite possibly, according to Korea.

A new game being published by Microsoft's Korean handle has been rated on Korea's Game Rating Board - dubbed Soccer Genesis. Currently nothing is known about the game, but like almost all of Microsoft Korea's entries into the system, it'll most likely be for the Xbox Live Arcade.

The image I've used is a little misleading, admittedly. Anyone remember playing World Cup Italia '90? It's not held up, that's for sure.

lol at the S&K achievements, sega are not even trying anymore. I think most if not all of them will be faster to get then sonic 3's last month.

A shame they can't make any for the lock-on games, complete S3&K with all 14 emeralds with all 3 characters would have made all the difference.

Bought this game on your recommendation, had a blast with 2 of my buddies. Not tons of depth, but great for casual pick up and play!
*thumbs up*

I thought Monkey Island was known to be 800 already. I'm glad for the confirmation, though.

As I have a Mac and can't play Quake Live, I can't wait for this. Hopefully it comes out sooner rather than later. Next we just need a port of UT99. :)

I agree 100% with this. Also Monkey Island looks really hot, saw a playthrough via a stream from LucasArts and even the music is fantastic! Need to get more points ASAP

Boy these remakes of older shooters are just popping out of the woodwork now.

Battlefield 1943, Call of Duty, Perfect Dark 1, Quake 3...

Shame a brother still can't get Doom II. Oh sure I have it on Steam along with like thirty other games but whatever's whatever right?

Alien Breed Evolution One Of The Most Expensive 'Arcade' Games Ever

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/4...n-One-Of-The-Most-Expensive-Arcade-Games-Ever

The newly-announced, Unreal Engine 3-powered Alien Breed Evolution is set to be one of the most expensive digital download titles ever made:

The company, which has enjoyed success in self-publishing with Worms and Worms 2 - both of which are currently sitting in the top ten of the XBLA chart - has employed a team of about 30 people over a period of "around 14-15 months," Brown told a packed Evolve session at this year's Develop Conference.

"It makes it one of the most expensive digital titles to-date," he admitted of the game, which will be released in three parts beginning in around October and feature around 15 hours of gameplay in total.

One can but hope that the end-user pricing does not reflect this investment. Sell more at a lower cost - please!

Wait, there's gonna be a Quake XBLA? Damn, sooo bought.

I hope they include 4 players split screen like the dreamcast version. So much fun to play with friends.

Didnt have much hype for splosion man before, then i listened to the latest 1up and this maybe what i spend my 3 month old points on.

The mention of Sonic was enough. Ha.

I will buy anything from Twisted Pixel now. The Maw is the most underrated Xbox Live game out there.

Over. Overrated.

But Splosion Man looks like they remembered to put in some actual gameplay this time around, so I'll give 'em another shot.

I'm not hyping myself up for it too much at this point. Been doing that too much lately.

I've got the maw but yet to give it more than an hours play. Along with about 10 other arcade games, but did like what i played and loved the graphics.

P.S. Shard / Rlan i love you for your input in this thread. My most read thread of any threads ever because of it. Ha.

You're welcome :)

XBLA: Interview: Going Mad In Babo: Invasion

How did the use of the Madballs licensing come about? Who went to whom?

SS: Microsoft introduced us after originally believing that we were a Madballs game. We liked the idea of bring some more personality into the game, and we brought them into the game, all the while being very careful not to affect the goal of creating what is, in essence, a hardcore shooter.

The license holder (American Greetings Properties) also licenses the Care bears and Strawberry Shortcake, but they didn't fit into the game as well. A Care Bears shooter would be awesome though. The emotions painted on their tummies when they are on the receiving end of gunfire would be quite expressive, I'd think.

You recently revealed Avatar Attack, the ability to play as your Avatar’s head in game. There are a lot of rules for Avatars, especially when violence is involved. How did you get around these rules?

SS: Well, our treatment of putting Avatars in combat is quite comical in nature, and we try to abstract them out as much as possible, first with a transition and also with how they act in battle. We already deal with frags in-game with exploding goo (not blood), In Avatar Attack, we're one step further-- heads explode in confetti and streamers when they're popped.

This is particularly gratifying if the player you pop has acquired enough multiplier drops. The heads grow as you go long terms without getting killed. But really, Microsoft has been great to work with-- they see that we're a silly balls-with-guns game and avatar heads just adds to the fun.
