Srsly. Layer Section HD, some fuckin' Darius, those are first priority.PepsimanVsJoe said:Qix? Taito/Square-Enix has access to hundreds of excellent titles that deserve another re-release and they decide on Qix?
Ah, I don't know about that. None of Taito's games on XBLA so far have been retro rom-dumps, so there's no reason to conclude this would be.It's probably vanilla Qix at that, which is about as much fun as the original Space Invaders. After Gals Pani X there's no reason to ever want to go back to vanilla Qix.
July 2, 2009 - When you're 'born of plasma and flame,' there is little that can stop you. No amount of scientists with their levers and pits of acid or strangely designed underground labs can prevent you from 'sploding your way to freedom. That's the simple premise behind the upcoming -- and thoroughly charming -- 'Splosion Man. This Xbox Live Arcade game from the makers of The Maw has been picked as one to be spot lit in the Summer of Arcade by Microsoft and it's easy to see why. In this side scrolling platformer, there is no jumping. Instead, you simply 'splode.
The controls in 'Splosion Man are as simple as its premise. You run around with the left thumbstick and press the face buttons to blow up and propel yourself through the air. You can blow up three times before running out of steam, but latching on to a wall or the floor for just a brief second recharges all of your 'sploding juices. The game moves quickly once you get into the swing of things and everything is laid out in a way that you can zip through stages in just a couple of minutes if you have the skills.
Click the image to see it in action.
Those who aren't fully practiced will find the usual assortment of stumbling blocks along the way. Rotating platforms, pits of doom, and spiked walls are there to thwart 'Splosion Man at every turn. The game isn't just about survival though. Each stage has a hidden birthday cake to seek out for bonus points. 'Sploding scientists makes them burst into piles of meat and snags more points. Make it through quickly while nabbing these point boosts and you'll find your run at the top of the leaderboards.
Like The Maw, 'Splosion Man has a great art style and some fantastic tunes. Even the little drum rolls that play during loading are catchy. The whole package is really catchy, though I did find the camera (which oftentimes zooms in and changes angles as you work through the stage) to be a little off-putting here and there.
'Splosion Man lets you play with up to four players cooperatively, but that feature was locked from the version we were allowed to play this time. That mode might be the defining feature of this game thanks to the interactive 'splosions. If one character blows up, they can propel another to loftier heights. Stay tuned for more as we've been promised an extended look at that soon.
July 2, 2009 - OTTAWA, CANADA - Playbrains, an independent game development studio specializing in the digital download arena, announced today a new and very personal way to play with your friends over Xbox LIVE. For the first time in any Xbox LIVE Arcade game, gamers will be able to take full control of their custom Avatar as a playable, in-game character through "Avatar Attack" mode in Madballs in...Babo:Invasion (MiBI) for Xbox LIVE Arcade on Xbox 360.
By selecting the "Avatar Attack" mode from the multiplayer Skirmish menu in MiBI gamers will be given the option to use their custom Avatar as a fully-controllable in-game character. Once selected, the "Decappuccino Machine," in a very sanitary manner, will painlessly separate the Avatar's head from its body where it will then be fitted and equipped with some heavy hitting and highly explosive artillery! And unlike the bright gooey mess that Madballs and other Babo spew when they take damage, each Avatar head is hand-filled by the loving and caring folks at Playbrains with only the finest confetti to ensure a pleasant and colorful display upon destruction.
"We wanted to give Xbox LIVE Arcade players an opportunity to really go 'head to head," commented Scott Simpson, president of Playbrains. "We feel that the Avatar Attack mode in MiBI will soon take its place in our world's society as a critical tool for settling disputes - leapfrogging wars, lawyers, reality show judges and other far more expensive methods that humans have used until now."
About Madballs in...Babo:Invasion
A gameplay rich, feature laden "casually hardcore" action shooter, Madballs in...Babo:Invasion is that rarest of gaming commodities: a genuinely unique title. Featuring the recently re-released Madballs characters, Oculus Orbus and Horn Head, from the popular 1980's toys best remembered for their outrageously bad looks and graphically colorful names, MiBI is an arena-based 3D shooter where players are able to design their own combat maps almost instantaneously by placing a combination of map tiles to create a never-before-seen map before gameplay starts. Truly, no two games are ever the same.
Offering players a satisfying and immersive experience in both single-player and multiplayer, Madballs in...Babo:Invasion has a plethora of features and game modes such as 4-player online co-op along with, never-before-seen in an Xbox LIVE Arcade title, being able to incorporate your Xbox LIVE Avatar into multiplayer combat via the 'Avatar Attack' mode. Yes, Xbox LIVE Arcade combat just got personal. And with up to 16-player multiplayer support, MiBI will be one of the few Xbox LIVE Arcade games to support more than 8 players at a time, and the only avatar-based game to support 16 players.
Look for Madballs in...Babo:Invasion to heat things up on the Xbox LIVE Arcade this summer!
Today Black Inc. announced Ion Assault, a space combat game coming to Xbox Live Arcade this summer. They didn't leave themselves much time to hype it but luckily the trailer is pretty convincing.
Ion is a top-down space shooter with one big twist: to attack enemy ships and asteroids, you need to collect the free energy particles swirling around and then unleash them. After you've depleted your stores, you'll repeat the process. In addition to the standard "pew pew", you'll have weapons like a black hole creator.
There's 20 levels in Ion, spread over four different campaigns with their own boss. The game will have online leaderboards so you can measure your performance against gamers worldwide. According to the trailer, there will also be competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes but no details were revealed.
Game's priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Be sure to check out that trailer.

Warner announced today that the second episode of the Watchmen beat-em-up title from now-defunct developer Deadline Games will be released on several different dates depending on the platform.
To give you a sense of the confusing plan, those that wish to purchase the $15 Xbox Live version of The End is Nigh Part 2 will need to wait until August 26. The more expensive Xbox 360 retail two-pack, however, will sell for $30 on July 21.
In my opinion, sensible release dates are a highly overrated phenomenon.
PlayStation 3 owners that wish to play the game on July 21 will need to buy Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience--which includes the director's cut of the Watchmen film and both games--for $50. The downloadable PS3 and PC versions will be released on July 30 for $15--a full three weeks ahead of that Xbox Live version.
Still confused? So am I. Here's a more comprehensive breakdown:
* Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience is an innovative, retail Blu-ray Hi-Def game and film hybrid which will include Watchmen: The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 and the Watchmen: Director’s Cut on Blu-ray. This new cut of the action-packed blockbuster includes an additional 25 minutes of footage not seen in theaters, available only on Blu-ray and DVD. The two-disc collectible set will also feature exclusive artwork in a premium package. The game will be playable on the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system which can also play the Blu-ray disc of Watchmen: Director’s Cut. The Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience will be available on July 21 for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
* Watchmen: The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 will be released as a single game available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft on July 21 for a suggested retail price of $29.99.
* Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 2 will be available for download on PC on July 29 and PlayStation Network on July 30 for a suggested retail price of $14.99 and on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft on August 26 for 1200 Microsoft Points.
no idea, perhaps there is a way to flag points (like you mentioned promo) as region free. All I know is that the cards themselves are region coded.Orellio said:Then how come US people were able to take advantage of that coke.co.uk giveaway a few months back? Serious question.
An inside source close to ******* has informed us LucasArts is bringing a brand new game (imagine that!) to XBLA, coinciding with the company's focus on downloadable releases as of late. Dubbed Lucidity, this title is described as a kind of side-scrolling adventure ... with a twist. Instead of controlling the main character, Sofi, in the traditional manner, players instead place certain objects in her path as she independently navigates the gameworld. As she runs into these objects, she will use them to tackle whatever obstacle is in her way.
The game will definitely have a fantasy element to it, as it supposedly takes place inside of Sofi's head while she's on a hunt for her grandmother. Let's just hope there's no big bad wolf waiting at grandma's to gobble her up, though.

Trials HD deserves way more hype than it's been getting. The amount of improvement over the PC original is on par with N -> N+. The controls have been retooled which makes for a more enjoyable and less frustrating experience, in addition to the graphical improvements and the new track editor. It was one of the funnest games at E3.S1kkZ said:shard postet a summer of arcade trailer during e3. the titles are:

We don't cover Xbox Live Arcade much as a rule on Pocket Gamer. Well, have you tried fitting an Xbox 360 in your pocket recently? Oh, we thought you were just pleased to see us...
Anyway, we'll make an exception for Tower Bloxx Live. It's mobile games firm Digital Chocolate's first game for Microsoft's console, and will be out this summer.
The already-impressive 3D visuals from the iPhone version have been improved even more for Xbox. The game will also offer achievements and leaderboards.
But the big news is the multiplayer mode where up to four people can play at once. Watch the video above to see how it's shaping up. If successful, more of DChoc's mobile and iPhone games are likely to follow Tower Bloxx to consoles.

Anyone remember how to get to the Microsoft page which shows you what you spent your points on and when? I recall using a page that splits up your points usage into months to give you a proper breakdown but I can't seem to find it.
