^I just want this^

Speaking of, it's real stupid that we have to wait an entire month before another game pack comes out for game room, it's just so wrong especially when it's so new. I bet a lot of people think the current games is all the room is getting or something.

I hear ya. Worst thing was that prior to the release we were told there would be game packs every week but then they announce the delay after the GR is released. Still, only another few more weeks to go till regular releases.

I'm hoping that out of the seven odd games in each pack they have they spread out the dates they were released so we get say one from 80-82, one from 83-85, one from 86-88 etc or similar. Definitely don't want too many games from the arcades infancy in one batch, I think variety is the key.

Summer Of Arcade in the past has been for:

Geometry Wars 2
Braid
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Galaga Legions
Castle Crashers

and

Splosion Man
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
TMNT Reshelled
Trials HD
Shadow Complex

To be honest I don't see Battleblock Theatre or Comic Jumper being part of this year's Summer of Arcade - these two devs don't need some big promotional thing for it, they'll sell a boatload of games themselves.

There are a bunch of shooters coming out this year - Breach, Lead & Gold, Monday Night Combat, Blacklight Tango Down etc. Now Battlefield 1943 was NOT a part of the Summer of Arcade, but I'd expect one of these to pop up here. Probably Monday Night Combat.

Limbo looks like the kind of game that will be delayed several times before it comes out a year and a half late.
You're correct on that. Limbo was in development so long I thought it was vaporware. But I think it's ready for a summer release. They've been showing it off to the press and handing out passes to the hype train.

Summer of Arcade prediction:

Comic Jumper
Hydrophobia
Shank
Snoopy
Joy Ride
Game 3 from Behemoth
Shadow Complex II :D :D :D .... (joke. it will be summer 11)
I'm convinced that Joy Ride is being delayed to launch as a downloadable Natal game. One thing is for sure: it won't be called Joy Ride in the UK.

Frankfurt, Germany - April 7, 2010 – Today, the Slovak development studio Games Distillery officially announces that their upcoming naval shooter “AQUA” will be released in summer 2010 by Microsoft Game Studios on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system. “AQUA” is a stylish arcade-action shooter with numerous tactical elements, driven by an entertaining story with beautiful hand-drawn comic sequences. The thrilling campaign mode and various exciting multiplayer modes are on the top level of audio-visual presentation for the target platform. The game itself is presented in a fictional Imperial Victorian setting.

In “AQUA” the player will take control of an elite cruiser and steer into the middle of a raging naval war where masses of enemies and allies engage in real-time operations. Being attacked from above and below the water surface the player has to destroy masses of enemies’ troops to be victorious. By unlocking new ship-types, weapons and upgrades, the player will have the opportunity to enhance his ship and gear up for the next fight. Choosing from various tactics and forming special supporting squadrons, the player will also have the option to command offensive and defensive troops in order to overcome large enemy formations and defensive installations.

“We are proud that AQUA will be released by Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox LIVE® Arcade, as this underlines our philosophy to deliver products of excellent quality and with a distinguishing mark within their segment. With AQUA, we want to take the genre of dual-stick arcade shooters an evolutionary step forward and deliver a story driven gaming experience on the vanguard of audiovisual quality compared to available arcade titles”, Juergen Reusswig, CEO and Development Director at Games Distillery comments.

XBLA's Hasbro Family Game Night adding Pictureka!, Connect 4x4 and Jenga

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/xblas-hasbro-family-game-night-adding-pictureka-connect-4x4-a/

EA's Hasbro Family Game Night collection on XBLA will receive three new titles this summer: Pictureka!, Connect 4x4 and Jenga.

It's relatively easy to imagine how the Xbox 360 interpretations will work with Pictureka! and Connect 4x4. Pictureka! is a hide-and-seek visual game, whereas Connect 4x4 is a twist on the classic title, which supports more players and includes a "super squares" mode with power-ups on the board. As for Jenga -- and its real-world repercussion of creating a mess once your block tower topples -- EA might just capture some of that Boom Blox magic in HD. Although, we still posit that playing Jenga on a computer screen is about as suspect as clothed Twister.

whats wrong with the animations? they look much worse than in metal slug 3.
the whole trailer makes the game look like shit (compared to ms3).

What? Which trailer did you watch?

Everything looked absolutely perfect to me.

If the animation is different than 3, it's probably because this is an up-port from the Nintendo DS. But I'm not seeing it, what in particular looks off to you, because it looked perfect to me.

Hell, SNK looks like they couldn't even be arsed to support proper widescreen settings.

Who in their right mind would want to play Metal Slug in widescreen?

"Proper" widescreen, without awful stretching, would require I guess extending the playfield a good bit on each side, but that would probably require re-writing the entire thing. For all we know the game is coded in such a way where there is nothing rendered past the 4:3 box.

Press Release
Ignition Reveals New Faction "The Order" from Upcoming Shooter Blacklight: Tango Down

April 8, 2010 - Glendale, CA – Ignition Entertainment has revealed The Order – the second faction to be unveiled from the upcoming multiplayer-focused first-person-shooter Blacklight: Tango Down, currently in development at Zombie Studios. The first faction revealed was Blacklight, which was detailed last week.

Blacklight: Tango Down is a fully featured Unreal Engine 3.0-powered game set to release this summer exclusively through Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Store, and through digital distribution channels on PC, making it one of the most advanced games ever released solely through downloadable channels.

WHAT IS THE ORDER?
The Order is an elite and secretive military organization whose publicized purpose is to protect the civilian population of Balik, although their efforts are not solely limited to that area. The Order takes pride and honor in being the first respondent into areas infected with disease and SIVs (Sentient Insanity Virus). The elite group of Special Forces operatives specializes in population- and urban-sector control measures. The bottom line -- The Order's goal is to halt the spread of and find an antidote for the virus that is devastating the population.

ROOTS
The Order originally took up arms against the government that was laid low by the initial outbreak of the virus. The government was seen as an impotent force that was simply unable to tackle the problem.

With the city of Balik left in ruin, The Order stepped in to rebuild by eliminating the virus… by any means necessary. The population of Balik was essentially deserted by their leaders, as the government and social support system evaporated overnight. The Order filled that void, restoring order and keeping the population safe. Their propaganda states they are not seeking power, territory or wealth, but instead looking to right what they consider to be a wrong.

The Order's arrival came as a surprise to the international intelligence bureaus, and there are still conflicting theories on where and how they first started. One thing all intelligence bureaus have in agreed upon is that they know that The Order is run by a single leader, are represented by their serpent logo, ignore local law enforcement/military to achieve their goals and have significant financial support, enabling them to purchase cutting-edge technology and deploy it onto the battlefield.

MAKEUP
As an organization The Order only recruit their operative through invitation, selecting the highest calibre soldiers from Special Operations and private military organizations. The Order also hires local militia to gain first-hand knowledge on the area of operations, and to better win the hearts and minds of the local community. This also provides a platform from which to evangelize their propaganda.

The Order's technology is hacked top-tier military grade equipment, modified to fit their operations and tactics. They can easily use equipment from fallen comrades to upgrade and modify their own gear. This sense of modularity is also seen in their bases and fortification style, as they reportedly use street items combined with their own pre-made military equipment.

REPUTATION
The Order's measures and tactics are reportedly clean, tough and on point. However, there have been rumors of civilian killing and mass executions. These rumors are currently unsubstantiated and are labeled by The Order as propaganda from those who oppose them.

400 and 800 points purchase options added.

edit: Just checked, not in Canada
Still not as good as PSN's 'real world money' feature but I guess it's a start.

Yeah, I got pissed off and put god mode on for singleplayer. Co-op is a lot easier and funner, though.
I can imagine, none of my friends picked it up though. I guess they didn't care about how many polygons per krundle this game has.

9th April 2010

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH is bringing its popular Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D series to Xbox Live Arcade, marking the first appearance of the best-selling series for the Xbox 360 format.

Using characters and situations from the popular animated series, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Decade Duels will bring TRADING CARD GAME’s fast-dueling and ultra-competitive experience to Xbox 360-owning fans. The new game retains the dueling elements that have established Yu-Gi-Oh! as the world’s most popular trading card game, and is part of Konami’s plans to bring the franchise to online-capable formats to continue to offer its rich sense of competition and tactical play.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is synonymous with competition and fast-pace dueling, and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Decade Duels pulls out all the stops by giving players a starter deck to duel with, including many cards which appeared in Yu-Gi-Oh! TV animation series and additional cards can be purchased to create a master deck to compete with. An enriched story mode will help new players learn to play and duel with characters from the animated series, including Jack, Yusei and others.

The game also features three, key modes of play:

• Rank Match: Compete against Yu-Gi-Oh! fans of the same rank and ability

• Quick Match: Jump right into the action and compete against any Yu-Gi-Oh! fan

• Custom Match: Battle your friends and completely customize the rules of play

In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Decade Duels, players are offered a more interactive experience as players can now compete with up to four friends and utilise voice and text chat to communicate with each other. In addition, leaderboards will show players how they stack up against players across the world. These additional features will bring gamers together like never before.

Is "Final Fight: Double Impact" a remake or why does it cost 800 MSP? Streets of Rage was 400 MSP only...
I forgot about Final Fight, I would say it's a HD enhanced port then a remake or true sequel, it does look great though and reminds me of my limited Mega CD days.

Final Fight is straight up Final Fight and Magic Sword bundled together -- but it's perhaps the best example of an emulation job out there.

You are always "online" with it - a friend can come in and start playing with you at any point in your game and vice versa. The game is filled with additional "challenges" like getting so many points in one level or killing this many guys yourself. This will unlock music, an entire udon comic based on Final Fight, all sorts of good stuff.

The game comes with a fantastic "arcade" filter which makes it look like it's being played on some ratty monitor - it looks great, and makes the game look so much more authentic than without the filter on.

They've set a high standard now, I hope Proper Games get to do more of this stuff for the 90's Capcom games. Even the GGPO online play would be nice for any old Street Fighter games they might port.

The interface is indeed slick, but imo, this is where they messed up. What they really should have done with this package was create a CPS "shell" whereby you could continue to purchase CPS1/2/(3?) games for your "CPS arcade" (a la Game Room) individually.

Instead, we get a non-sensical package that pretty much forces gamers to buy one if they want the other.

And let's be real - This announcement may have made Magic Sword something that gamers suddenly want to champion, but it's pretty much the epitome of that era of arcade machines. Fun for a few stages, then utterly repetitive and dull for 50 more. It's not like they're really giving much of a value-add here beyond charging 10 bucks for Final Fight.

There was a time when Capcom was really leading the charge for the downloadable space. I can't help but think that they've lost their course.

With the effort they put into presentation here, this could have been something to get genuinely excited about. As it is, it just feels totally random. Final Fight is a genre-defining classic. Magic Sword is a mostly-forgotten novelty. Pairing them up is confusing.

If they really wanted to slap another game into this package, they should have at least drawn from their sizable pool of Final Fight-lineage beat-em-ups and pulled out something that would be complimentary. The inclusion of Magic Sword, to me, really makes this entire project feel slapdash.

Just my thoughts.

Metal Slug 7 was a ridiculously sub-par effort for the series that equally proved SNKP has completely lost track of what made the original trilogy so entertaining, and that modern gamers are incredibly poor at recognizing actual game quality differentiation beyond surface-level similarities.

Metal Slug XX is simply a cheap, quick, cash-in on that effort that attempts to rake a few more nostalgic saps into witnessing how badly they've handled this franchise.

Avoid this game if you actually like Metal Slug. It may be tempting from a quick glance, but you are infinitely better off just replaying the glory days for the 500th time instead of wasting away with this poorly-conceived cash in.

The DS-quality animation, recycled assets, and graphical limitations are the least of its troubles.

I dunno. It seems to me like their approach was similar to the way record companies used to bundle hit singles with a somewhat more obscure yet still-interesting song on the B-side. I do agree that it was mostly done to justify the $10 price.

I love that they're doing this but I'm still a little confused about what this means vis-a-vi Game Room. They are both going for a similar vibe in that they are trying to respect the original intent of the games, but I would rather see this stuff hit Game Room for $3 each than bundled at $5 each -- even if the GR packaging isn't quite as nice as what they have done for FF:DI.
