There better be a release this week.

Or...?

Come on guys, I want to see someone step up to the plate and say they're not going to get Worms or something, or ever buy another 360 game, or throw their machine out the window.

MAN UP, FOLKS.

Why is there no breakout clones on XBLA?

Well, Astropop LOOKS like Breakout but plays nothing like it. That's the closest you'll get for now :)

Mad Tracks too. AWESOME.

Mad Tracks! Forgot about that one!! Cool.

As I said in my Wii thread, I am a true XBLA junkie. It must be the old-skool gamer in me. Aside from the Crackdown demo, I play more XBLA games than anything else :)

Will there ever be a day where there would be more than one release in one day? Maybe one retro one original?

DCX

*sigh* Whatever. At least the flow of games has finally started. I have the feeling ****ing SOTN will be the LAST of the 10 games to come out though. Its really the only one I care about.

I'm tired of these Atari 5200 games coming out though. Root Beer Tapper can suck my nuts. Maybe Pong will be the next big thing to hit XBLA?

PEOPLE WANT BEER!!

(FILL FILL FILL SLIDE)
(FILL FILL FILL SLIDE)
(FILL FILL FILL SLIDE)
(FILL FILL FILL SLIDE)... BREAK

Its just a simple game, but it is pretty fun.

I was reading this post, by Simon Carless, editor of both Game Developer magazine and Gamasutra.com, about Official Xbox Magazine March 2007 issue, and found this at the end of the article: http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/02/official_xbox_magazines_new_di_1.php

Also worth noting - some new Xbox Live Arcade reviews in the March 2007 issue were for unreleased XBLA games, including Worms getting 7.5, with the slightly worrying comment: "Was it purposely truncated to allow downloadable content?", since it's missing stalwart weapons including the Holy Hand Grenade, Root Beer Tapper getting 6.0 with "good time-killer", and the Big Huge Games-developed Catan being "A truly unique Live experience", and getting 8.0

For 400 MS points, at the usual super-early o'clock (Feb. 7 at 1 a.m. PST), gamers can download Root Beer Tapper from the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace. Like other arcade classics, Tapper has received a visual update so that the game will display in HD and this version supports online multiplayer, leaderboards, and achievements.

ZZzz . . . about the only good thing I can say about that title is that it is only 400 points. :-/

I like 80's retro, but I can pick up discs full of them for $20 or $30.

Let's see . . . Defender, Joust, Robotron 2084, Tapper, Smash TV, PaperBoy(coming), Gauntlet . . . every single on of those in Midway Arcade Treasures 1 . . . You ever get the feeling that they have intentionally made Midway Arcade Treasures 1 not work in backwards compatibility mode? Grrrr.

Can we expect all the games on Midway Arcade Treasures 2, and Midway Arcade Treasures 3 to show up on xbox live arcade? (And not work in backwards compatibility mode? Grrrr.)

Nah, because they did make the Namco Anniversary discs work.

I hope they don't have a hand in Symphony of the Night.

Heh, you are going to be upset. I never understand all the DE hate, most of their ports/emulations are pretty damned good.

Maybe Namco didn't pay the necessary kick-back? ;-)

I don't hate DE . . . I think they did a good job on the ports. I just hate this 'double-dipping'.

Well, DE has nothing to do with that. Midway could pay them to write these as part of collection.

For me, there is such a stark contrast to how Namco presents their arcade classics, and how Konami and Midway have been doing it.

Especially for HDTV owners, the hi-def artwork on the borders, the cute electronic manuals, the Namco games just feel more "complete." Like a definitive version.

The Konami and Midway stuff feels cheap and rushed.

The best part of Root Beer Tapper being available this week is that there was a 2 or 3 week XBLA hiatus just before it. Beautiful. At this rate we won't be done with all this retro bullshit until 2023.

Actually, I can't speak for all of the retro titles on deck, but I know the XBLA team has started working with the devs of these titles to do exactly what it is you like. They've noticed folks tend to like the presentation that Namco did. I know SOTN is one title that does this.

except there's only one other retro title on deck besides SOTN?

I mean, i'll be sure the XBLA team gets around to certifying Professor Pac Man first, just for you my friend.

I have not purchased any of the Konami or Midway classics in large part because of the presentation, so this is really great to hear. Thank you!

I'm glad to hear it. Like i said, I like retro-80's stuff . . . but there is only so much of it that I want. I'm excited to see these new IP titles and old console/PC game ports.
