Alright, so what the fuck's going on tomorrow?

Hasbro Family Game Night, but which games? Any murmurings of DLC for existing Arcade titles?

Connect Four, Battleship, Yahtzee and for North America Scrabble, this has all been documented before.

Actually, let me correct that, according to the latest PR it is Boggle and not Scrabble that will be in the launch batch.

Newjack OutRun is more like Cruis'n than Daytona, the physics and control are all tweaked towards forward motion and flowing around traffic. But it has insane sense of speed and really preserves that old-school fantasy world feeling of driving through all this perfect, miniature dioramas of iconic locals, such as famous parks, castles, cities, etc.

There's really no other modern day arcade racers like it that I'm aware of; it really is the old school perfectly translated into 3D graphics.
sounds fun. i do prefer racers on the far end from realistic sims. it was a pretty sure purchase already, with the demo likely to push me way over the edge.

If I can get a couple of friends to bite on Battleships I might just get it. :lol

David Edery, the dude in charge of the XBLA lineup (“Worldwide Games Portfolio Planner”) was recently let go:

…in order to bring you the following personal update. My position on the XBLA team was recently eliminated by Microsoft. It’s been an incredibly fun and educational experience working on XBLA, which has grown from an exciting novelty to a centerpiece of the Xbox business, and I’m proud to have been a part of it. I’m working through my next steps now, and I can only hope that whatever I end up doing next will be half as exciting as what I was doing last. :-)

If I was a betting man, I'd say the next two weeks will feature UNO Rush and Puzzle Quest Galactrix. Flock following that and then OutRun (w/ The Dishwasher and/or Lode Runner getting pushed to the end or bundled with something else).

I'm probably wrong, though. :lol
How about that... Xbox Spotlight appears to be backing up my timetable. I wonder how that happened. :D

You guys don't mind waiting until April 15th for OutRun, right?

All the people griping on Major Nelson's blog about the Hasbro game pricing is hilarious.

You know that man has to cringe when he hits "submit" on all those blogs about content with questionable pricing.

Man... I really hope XBLA doesn't take a nose-dive because of that. I think he was instrumental in bringing over hardcore games early on like Castlevania, E4 and RezHD. I already commented on his blog, but I'll reiterate here. I'm not worried for him, since he's a smart and talented guy, he'll be fine. I'm worried about XBLA now.

OutRun Online Arcade gets XBLA date

Microsoft has confirmed, via Xbox Live's Days of Arcade feature, that SEGA's OutRun Online Arcade will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday 15th April.

The game's a downloadable version of the arcade classic OutRun 2 SP, as converted by Sumo Digital, which has done this sort of thing before (on Xbox, PS2 and PSP) to terrific effect.

OutRun Online Arcade is also due for a PS3 release on the PlayStation Network, but SEGA is currently unable to confirm if this version will launch simultaneously with the 360's in April.

Sony's approval processes have seen several PSN games arrive later than their XBLA counterparts, most notoriously with PS3 owners' months-long wait for Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. We'll let you know as soon as we do.

Days Of Arcade release dates:

  • UNO Rush - 25th March
  • Puzzle Quest: Galactrix - 1st April
  • Flock! - 8th April
  • Dishwasher - 8th April
  • OutRun Online Arcade - 15th April
  • Lode Runner - 22nd April

So Ultimate Team is releasing on Thursday and not today? I feel like the PSN Monkey is oppressing me even on XBLA!
It was always announced as March 19th. It's DLC not XBLA.

Oh I know, my assumption is that this was done for parity with PSN or was a mistake in the original PR. Probably faulty, but nevertheless assumptions that allow me to opine on the fascist PSN Monkey, which is what's really important here.

It's a bit of a jerk move to put Dishwasher and Flock on the same day. You'd think it would have been UNO Rush that got released on the same day as something else.

UNO Rush is probably going to sell a hell of a lot, why would you put another title out at the same time to go against it?

I definitely agree. Quite uncool to make those 2 original games battle it out....

Oh sure, but it's also something you'll be playing forever. Releasing two full games with a meaty campaign each is somewhat cannibalizing both games' sales.

Capcom got a little fucked over last time too, as they released both Bionic Commando Rearmed and Fable Pub Games on the same week.

Well, they do have the Playstation Network and the PC to cover for any XBLA loss.

add to that that despite the fact i want 4 of the 7 games coming out none of them are coming out in the first two weeks of this promotion :(

So on playing Peggle AM through a second time and going for 20M points, is there a power that's better than others? Seems like Zen and Spooky are the big point-getters.

Rabbit can get major points if you do a good regular shot and have his triple point score ability, and his hat helps to in certain levels. The Pyramid powerup can help getting back those balls for the final tally (as well as the Pyramid bonus), Flower allows you to get through a level quicker, therefore more balls left, and if you use the Woodchuck double shot at the right time, like at the very end of the level where there is nothing left but a green and red peg next to each other, you can get a great score by doubling the final pot at the end. You can do that with Spooky ball too.

It makes sense to do this because if they released them afterwards, people will be less likely to get them after they spent points on one of the bigger releases. If they put them first, there is more temptation to pick up the weaker titles while waiting. That's how I see it, anyways.

Kinda dissapointing no word on Banjo Tootie or Voot!

On a side note, How is Alien Homind on XBLA? I heard its going be 400points soon, So I'm definitely thinking of picking it up.

1up.com Hands-on preview of Space Invaders Extreme

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3173331

The Space Invaders concept is nothing new; after all, it originated in arcades 30 years ago back in 1979. You move left and right, and shoot. That's it. Besides Pong and Kenji Eno's One-Dot Enemies, there are few games that could claim a simpler premise. But then in the summer of 2008, Taito quietly unleashed Space Invaders Extreme on PSP and DS, an updated spin on the concept involving bumping techno music, spectacular background visuals (a la Lumines II), and actual depth to the game mechanics. Now the experience is being brought over from handhelds to Xbox Live Arcade, with a number of new enhancements designed to stimulate legions of new Earth defenders.

The first and most noticeable difference from the handheld versions is that legendary effects and programming guru, Jeff Minter, has designed the visualizer that decorates each stage's backgrounds. Known best for his games Tempest 2000 and Space Giraffe, Minter's contribution may just look like a bunch of haphazard explosive Geometry Wars-style effects laced into the backdrop, but he actually worked closely with developer Backbone Entertainment to ensure that the visuals followed a theme -- that of the alien invaders slowly approaching Earth. The first few stages mimic a normal space environment, with each stage becoming greener, warmer, and more organic as you approache the blue planet.

The second, less noticeable difference -- from the handheld versions at least -- is that the invaders are actually pixel-perfect. On the smaller platforms, it's easy to overlook the fact that the invaders had to be adjusted, even if only by a pixel, because of the width of the different platform screens. But with the Xbox 360, Backbone is able to accurately and faithfully replicate the invaders as they were originally designed, which should appeal to purists who expect their ports to be flawless or, better yet, improved.

The game itself adds play mechanics that never existed in the original Space Invader games, like chains and combos. You create combos by killing four invaders of the same color (Space Invaders Extreme's idea of ethnic cleansing) to get that particular color invaders' specific power-up to drop. So, kill four green invaders, then get the green power-up. Likewise for red, or white, or blue (the blue power-beam is definitely an office favorite). If, for some reason, you'd prefer to save your power-up for when a UFO appears, you can 'store' it by holding down the right-bumper button, and let go when you're ready to use it.

There are tons of subtle, little techniques embedded into the gameplay, which help you rack up higher scores. How you kill the invaders, whether you shoot down the UFOs, and other factors all combine to jack your combo and chain meter up, which can multiply your score by up to five times the normal amount. If you're really good and fulfill the necessary criteria, you can then jump to a 10-times multiplier for even higher scores (which will be an absolute necessity if you hope to earn a place on the game's leaderboards). All of these techniques, of course, will factor heavily into your win totals when playing with up to three other people in the addictive multiplayer games. We'll have more on Space Invaders Extreme as we get closer to the game's Spring release date, but for a taste of the action, check out the latest screens and video in the tabs above.

The rabbit with the spin wheel. Triple score is godly and you can't sniff at the magic hat either.

March 25th, 2009 marks the spot.

I've been playing Uno Rush today and to tell you the truth, I cannot stand it. The CPU seems to be out of their mind Uno players and going on 6 card streaks while I am left trying to sort through my deck like a madman trying to stop them from calling Uno.

I am really questioning whether to buy Galactrix now. I know the gameplay is somewhat disappointing, but when I go to the Galactrix forums on the official website, there's so many people down on the game, it makes me think I should save my money. Do we know how much it will cost? If it's $15 or $20, I will probably pass.

Official Xbox Magazine said:
Galactrix is perfect for puzzlers who want to chip away at an epic quest over many, many sessions. And yes, it's 1,600 Microsoft Points - but worth all 20 bucks.
According to OXM's review, it's $20. They gave it 8/10, by the way.

Couple things:

a) Weird choice of having a free "game" download which is nothing more than a platform to then... download other games onto, for a price. Talking about the Hasbro Game Night thing, obviously. I kind of think that is going to hurt sales.

b) I thought trials of games was forced on publishers? How is it that the NCAA game doesn't have a trial? I have every single XBLA game downloaded to my Elite HDD (meaning if it's not a full version, I have a trial version downlaoded). I don't wanna buy it! This is just going to screw me up now. :lol

NCAA broke so many XBLA rules that Microsoft doesn't even consider it an XBLA game.

I don't think I could stomach Galactrix if I had to do all the jumpgate hacking. I've modded it out of the PC version which makes it like 200x better.

oh no :O so early impressions from geekbox are true..? the jumpgate hacking spoils the game??
