They never teased us with the original soundtrack. They had the SNES music as a placeholder.

It's the same music on both, just a tiny bit of a sound quality difference. Either one would be fine.

The point is that the game was at E3, using the original music. That was LESS than two months ago, and obviously the game has been finished for a few weeks now. There was no reason to use the original music at E3 if it won't be in the game.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible how $5, the amount people spend on a coffee, or a chocolate bar, or a muffin, makes a video game with hours of entertainment an "absurd" purchase. From $15, which meant everyone was getting screwed and TMNT sucks, to $10, which is OMG now a must-buy! Day 1 for me!!!

Use that $5 well.

Trials HD review:

Judging by its unassuming title and rather bland gameplay description, it would be easy to label Trials HD as simple shovelware. But to underestimate this Live Arcade title would be a serious mistake. Though it uses just a few simple gameplay mechanics, Trials HD is as exciting, challenging, satisfying, and rewarding as you could ever dream. In fact, this is hands down the best Xbox Live Arcade title to date, and the only real community-based counter Microsoft has against Sony's LittleBigPlanet.

A Kingdom For Keflings is a fun multiplayer games.

Speaking of Which, where the heck is the DLC? Ninjabee's twitter said they were working on it and that was awhile back.

Very interested in this.

same with just about all the summer of arcade titles actually....

splosion man
this
that other platformery upgrade yourself one that looks like a console game

all getting a purchase.

Haven't bought a game on a disc for a while. I think SFIV was my last one, probably ever. Have steam and the new download service from the NXE. Bring it on DD.

I have 1900 Microsoft Points to spent. Help me decide which games to get...

I already have Rez HD, Ikuraga, Megaman 9, Braid and Geometry Wars 2.

In the latest edition of german games magazine "M! Games" there's a small article about Snap Drgon Games (developer / publisher of, amongst others, "Karate Phants" (WiiWare)). They are currently working on remakes of the following Data East games:

Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja (XBLA, PSN)
Karate Champ (XBLA)
Tumble Top (XBLA, PSN, WiiWare)

In addition, they are working on a completely new game, "Desert Creeps". All are scheduled for a 2010 release...

the reason it makes a difference for me is because when I buy an digital game depending on what it is price is a huge difference but I would have bought this for 1200 points anyway but 10 dollars is the sweet point for the game because most games I have issues buying for the 1200 points.

Im going out to buy a 1600 card today, and i already have 400 points, and im buying MvC2 today,

what should I spend my remaining points on? I was thinking either Mothership Zeta or TMNT.

you can also recommend other games.

I already have Penny arcade 2, Castle Crashers, Bionic COmmando:RA, Alien Hominid, Kodu, Undertow, Bf1943

Pac-Man CE and Bionic Commando Rearmed.

And if you get another 100 points, add Marble Blast Ultra.

I would say get TMNT because it's 400 points and when you get more points than you can get the new TMNT as well.

Anyone that picks repetitive beat-em-ups over GeomWars2 or Pac-Man CE should take a nice relaxing
acid
bath to reassess their priorities.

Fucking no-fun crybaby. I bet I have better high scores than you as well.

Oh yeah, fucking Castle Crashers.:lol I knew I was forgetting a big XBLA game.

How is Splosion Man in co-op? ListenUp was saying it was very difficult in co-op due to the timing you both have to do for jumps

Thanks for the tips

Assault Heroes 1 and 2... some of the best co-op on the arcade! The first one is only 400 points now and its a gem!

AHAHAHA internet_seriousbusiness.jpg

He already has Castle Crashers. He only has 6 arcade games and I'm sure Undertow is really only there because it was free, so let's not even count that. If he buys TMNT, 33% of his Arcade collection will be brawlers. Brawlers have their place but they're unarguably one of the most formulaic genres, gameplay-wise. As such, they're best taken in moderation. I think the best approach is to add a little more variety to his Arcade collection for the time being, save another brawler for a little further down the line.

Unless CC has held his attention fervently and consistently since he bought it, but I'm betting that's not the case. And even if it were, a lot of the elements that probably would have contributed to that (character leveling, weapon/ability customization, lots of unlocks, tons of stages, combos employing more than 1 attack button) aren't present in the TMNT games.

So in other words, you don't know what "unarguably" means, and instead state your opinion as such.

Calling beat-em-ups formulaic, after suggesting he instead buy a remake of Pac-Man, is hilarious.

(And yes, Pac-Man CE is fantastic, but I would also suggest TMNT -- more replay value.)

Another Junior looking for some info....

What are some great co-op XBLA games? A good friend of mine finally got him some XBL and we're looking look for some good co-op games.

Off the top of my head:
  • Alien Hominid HD
  • TMNT TiT Remake
Heavy Weapon is totally fuckawesome in co-op, and tragically gets forgotten when people talk about great XBLA games.

Nah, first part you bolded was the "unarguably" part, and I stand by it. The other sentence is part of the summary, which contains the words "I think".

Many genres can be oversimplified by boiling their gameplay down into a few basic tenets, but for streetwalking brawlers, generally, "walk to enemy, hit attack button until they die, repeat x infinity" is a pretty apt summation.
Calling beat-em-ups formulaic, after suggesting he instead buy a remake of Pac-Man, is hilarious.
So you're saying Pac-man CE is doing nothing new for maze games? Come on. It couldn't possibly be any less formulaic relative to other games in that genre.

To be fair I'd say the same thing on the other side of the argument if Guardian Heroes was one of the games involved, but it's not.
(And yes, Pac-Man CE is fantastic, but I would also suggest TMNT -- more replay value.)
I... what... joke post? A totally scripted 20-minute game that offers no significant differentials from one playthrough to another has more replay value than a score attack game where every deviant move drastically affects the outcome of the game? That's mad. You're mad. Get out of my courtroom.

There's a reason why TMNT 1989 is still on the top 10 XBLA games, as of this past week.

And I have both games, and I still play TMNT on XBLA here and there on Live. I haven't played Pac-Man in a very long time.

Yes, it has more replay value to me and many others.

Yeah, it's pretty similar to the reason why Mortal Kombat II is usually in the top 10 PSN games. It's cheap and people recognize it. It has little to do with replay value, I doubt the average playtime per copy exceeds an hour.

I can't make a convinceable argument here because the two games mentioned are my top two favorite games on XBLA. In a street fight though TMNT wins due to the hundreds of hours played at the arcade in years past. You're a dick for making me choose. Fuck you.

Yeah, just want to say... aside from Geo Wars / Geo Wars 2, Pac Man CE is really the next best thing, as far as godly status XBLA games go. Pac Man CE is really, really great.

A Karate Champ comeback is the most random news I have ever heard.

Also, they better keep "mrm brrrd"

Ok.......so outside of Burgertime and The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy*, I can't think of a single Data East game that could possibly be both interesting and relevant to the current market from their catalogue.

What, exactly, are you thinking of here? Karnov??

*.....all right, I admit that The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy probably isn't relevant. But a Cliffhanger: Edward Randy sequel would be so amazing that it wouldn't matter.

Windjammers and Magical Drop, I'd reckon.

A Data East Pinball Collection would be pretty awesome, too.

I'm not sure how like $5 more goes from "just right" to "absurd".

That's more like "a little expensive".

When you compare it to the 1989 game that was released, it is quite absurd to pay 800 more points just for update to the graphics really which I and many others didn't really want. So yes, absurd in that instance.

Shig said:

I actually thought of Magical Drop, but then I figured that it really didn't fit into the relevant category anymore.

I mean, there's a million different clones of the basic mechanic out there on freeware alone these days. Even on the DD console market, that Critter Crunchers game that's coming to PSN basically looks to be aping the exact same premise and would severely beat it to market. I'm pretty sure most people would overlook it at this point anyway.

Then again, maybe if they use the same huge-titty anime character BG of "The World," it could grab some attention via screenshot releases.....in the early days of the internet, that sprite rip was one of the most popular avatars around.

I never liked those Windjammers-style games, personally, but I do have to admit that's a pretty good answer. Completely slipped my mind as a possibility.

Problem with a pinball collection would be that 99% of their machines were licensed IP. I can't see Guns N Roses signing off on a XBLA port at this point, for example...

I think we're back to Edward Randy as the most viable option.

Ahhhhh Edward Randy, now there's a hero....

Really, TMNT and Mortal Kombat are your two favorite games on XBLA? I don't think either one would make my top 50. Do you only play games for nostalgic reasons?

I'm just having a bit of fun with high scores. Isn't that the entire purpose of the games mentioned?

Oh, wait you are that annoying Angels fan? Sigh.
