On November 4th all Wallace & Gromit episodic games available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Telltale takes orders for full season DVD
Telltale Games has announced that all Wallace & Gromits Grand Adventures episodes will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade Wednesday, November 4th. The release coincides day and date with the 20th anniversary of the release of A Grand Day Out, Wallace & Gromit's first animated short. Telltale will begin taking orders November 4th for the Wallace & Gromits Grand Adventures full season DVD. In addition to all four fun-filled episodes, the DVD will include exclusive image galleries, a "making of" video, and Aardman Animations' hilarious Cracking Contraption shorts, which profile some of Wallace's more eccentric inventions.
Introversion's Mark Morris and Chris Delay told the Eurogamer Expo this week that Darwinia+ will be submitted to Xbox Live Arcade certification in "the next few weeks", with a likely release "the next side of Christmas".
The pair, speaking yesterday afternoon, told a tale of adaptation and frustration, and specifically the stark contrast between Introversion in 2009 and Introversion on stage at the Independent Games Festival in 2006, when they took the star prize for the original Darwinia.
Confident IGF outbursts like, "We didn't want any publishers f***ing up our game", have turned into admissions like, "At the end of the day we're a business and we need to sell as many copies as we can." Not to mention: "We're sick to f***ing death of Darwinia+". But there's a good reason for that. "We first started talking about it in 2006, and it's 2009 now and it hasn't come out yet," said Morris. Worse, Introversion had to answer to someone else: Microsoft.
Microsoft asked for better graphics and multiplayer. The former was easy, the latter excruciatingly hard. "We had a lot of difficulty injecting any excitement into the game," said Chris Delay of the early multiplayer prototypes. "We were trying to satisfy Microsoft. That's the most awful motivation in the world for making a videogame."
Eventually, Introversion decided to separate the single-player and multiplayer and create Multiwinia. This took two years, and the game - released last September - scored well, earning 8/10 on Eurogamer. "Multiwinia for us was the best game with the highest production values we'd put out," explained Mark Morris. "That's what we believed." By this time, Introversion was done with Darwinia - it was an old game.
"We were trying to convince Microsoft to kill the Darwinia idea and launch Multiwinia instead. All the time, Microsoft were saying to us, no no guys, we want Darwinia - we signed Darwinia," said Morris. "Alright, Microsoft, you're idiots, but we'll go with you."
The result was a redesign for Darwinia, hence the 'plus'. New menus, tutorials, controls and visuals were introduced, to make Darwinia+ understandable and accessible. Morris quipped that there was a "contrite modern expression" that summed up how unfriendly the original Darwinia was: "WTF".
Iterating on usability took ages: a "thankless task", said Chris, "because not a single sod notices". "It just works - the moment when you've got it right, people stop complaining and they just play the game," he added. Morris and Delay showed discarded designs on slides during the presentation. Some, they admitted, were "cringeworthy".
Introversion's desire to get a profitable version of Darwinia on the market persisted and features like trials, upsell screens, Avatar items, Achievements, leaderboards and gamer pictures were all integrated. Darwinia+ even has two sets of menus; one each for the Darwinia+ and Multiwinia sides of the game.
As a package, Darwinia+ looks impressive. Delay walked the Eurogamer Expo Leeds audience through an on-stage demonstration of the Darwinia+ tutorial level while Morris talked. Graphics were crisp, goals clear and controls obvious.
Nearly five years after its original launch, however, the question of whether it's too late for Darwinia remains to be answered. We shall find out for sure the other side of Christmas, by the sound of it!
Team17's John Dennis has revealed what we can expect from the new Alien Breed game for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Speaking at the Eurogamer Expo in Leeds yesterday, Dennis confirmed that Alien Breed Evolution will be released in the form of three episodes. "In each episode there's a prologue level, then there are five single-player levels and they're really large... Much larger than they should have been," he said.
"There are also two set pieces in each episode. For example there's one where the ship goes through an asteroid field, there's debris coming up through the floor and the air's running out... There are also two boss battles in each episode, then on top of that there are three multiplayer levels."
According to Dennis, each episode will take "five to eight hours" to complete. You'll be able to try out each one by downloading the prologue for free. There's no word yet on when the first episode will be released or how much it will cost. You can check out all the gubbins we've got on it via the gamepage, though.

Oh and Rainbow Islands TA is hard, but great arcade fun.
Death Tank needs a price drop and a marketing push badly. I liked it even more than Worms, although that's mostly because Worms Armageddon on the PC is still better than all the console releases.Rlan said:Possible Deals Of The Week for November - 3 on 3 NHL Arcade (Nov 16th), Peggle (Nov 23rd), Death Tank (Nov 23rd). Other deals may include COD4 DLC, Saints Row 2 DLC, and Fable II DLC.
This is based off of the Japanese blog, and may change in North America - their DLC might only be because they don't have a game or two in their region.
As for 0D Beat Drop.. man, I don't see how that game is going to sell at all. I understand their differentiation on mechanics, but to the regular consumer it'll look like nothing but a ugly block dropping puzzle game.

The DigiPen students behind Synaesthete, the winner of the Independant Games Festival Student Award in 2008, have now revealed Transcend - a music-driven arcade shooter with a psychedelic aesthetic.
Now going by Fishbeat, this independent developer have got their contract with Microsoft and are working hard to bring Transcend to the Xbox Live Arcade. Fishbeat president Zach Aikman at Tokyo Game Show's Sense Of Wonder Night exhibition where he showed the first footage of the game in action:
Transcend sports a psychedelic artstyle, different to the cyberspace look of Synaesthete, but you are still tapping to the beat while avoiding enemies. Even at this early stage it looks great, we'll keep out eyes open on this development throughout 2010. In the meantime check out their website and follow their twitter account for the latest news.

I thought this looked legit.
Diner Dash will let players take direct control of Flo as she runs around to seat patrons to take orders, deliver food, take payment and bus tables as efficiently as possible within the time limit allowed. Servers looking to play with co-workers can join with up to seven other players in multiplayer across four diners in Team Dash or go 1 on 1 in head-to-head mode and will be released on Nov. 18, 2009.
As in the classic action-strategy game, players will take control of Flo, a waitress building a run-down diner into a success, one customer at a time.
Diner Dash will feature the classic gameplay that fans have come to adore along with updated HD graphics, said Sabine Duvall, vice president of product development at Hudson Entertainment. With a brand-new 8-person multiplayer mode, a whole new group of players are going to enjoy Diner Dash.
Diner Dash will come to life in 3D on new generation consoles when players have the option to take direct control of Flo as she runs around to seat patrons, take orders, deliver food, take payment and bus tables as efficiently as possible within the time limit allowed. Players fond of the traditional control schemes may also use a point-and-click style with hotkeys to aid Flo in her quest for customer satisfaction, which is reflected in a heart meter that empties as customers lose patience. If the meter empties completely, then the customer will leave the restaurant. Servers looking to play with co-workers can join with up to seven other players in multiplayer across four diners in Team Dash or go 1 on 1 in Head to Head mode.
We've been discussing the games existence for years now, but it appears that Encleverment Experiment is finally on its way to the Xbox Live Arcade, now self published by Blitz Arcade themselves.
Encleverment Experiment follows Professor Ivor Question as he throws out a variety of fast paced challenges for you to complete - 16 in all. This can range from memory games, word searches, jigsaw puzzles and the like. You'll play to earn Noodles which allows you to buy new objects and avatar creatures to buy, or you can play against 2 to 4 of your friends in a battle of brain power.
The game is set to be released in the next few weeks, and will retail for 800 Microsoft Points. In the meantime, check out the official website.
Not even game cancellation can get the Duke down, as we've learned that his 2002 sidescroller may be on its way to the Xbox Live Arcade.
This news comes courtesy of the Linkedin profile of Rebecca Heineman, one of the founding members of Interplay back in 1983 and programmer of such classics as The Bards Tale III. Rebecca currently resides as Lead Software Development Engineer at Microsoft.
In her LinkedIn profile, as well as a cached versionof a forum post, she suggests that she's been working on bringing Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project to the Xbox Live Arcade.
Quick history lesson - Manhatten Project was a 3D side scrolling Duke Nukem adventure developed by 3D Realms and the now defunct Sunstorm Interactive back in 2002, and was well received by critics. It was used to keep Duke Nukem in the limelight after Duke Nukem Forever's release date continued to slip.
Looking back it would have fit perfectly in the age of digital downloads, so it's no surprise that Duke is making a return trip to the Xbox Live Arcade. Just watching this video will show you how surprisingly similar Shadow Complex is to Manhattan Project's mechanics and level design.
The game hasn't ages all that well graphically though, especially compared to Shadow Complex, so if truly is in the works I would hope they find a way to cram in some of those Duke Nukem Forever models and textures into this game.
There is no official word on this game at this time, but what we've found seems to confirm it. Are you ready to kick ass and chew bubblegum?
William Stallwood and Dain Saint, the creatives behind Auditorium, won the first 2BeeGames.com Indie Game Competition in July, winning the grand prize of $10,000 and a newly signed worldwide multi-platform publishing contract. Early next year Auditorium will be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PSPGo.
"Playing Auditorium is an experience anyone can enjoy, so we wanted this truly independent and homegrown game to be available on multiple platforms, reaching a wide range of gamers," said Mark Seremet, CEO, Zoo Games. "A game with the creativity and ingenuity of Auditorium doesn't come around very often and we're proud to have signed this project through our 2BeeGames Indie Game Competition."
Auditorium is really all about the experience, both visually and aurally. There are no instructions to teach you how to play. The game is about exploration and discovery. Each level is a unique puzzle with several possible solutions. You play the game by manipulating "the Flow," a constant stream of moving particles of light and sound. The goal is to manipulate various controls in order to guide the Flow into Audio Containers. As you fill the containers, light transforms into sound. Given enough light, the containers will begin to sing together in a symphony, providing the ultimate Harmony of Flow.
"We always knew we wanted to create games professionally, but we never expected our first game to take off like this," said Dain Saint, half of the two-man team at Cipher Prime. " For us to be in a position to publish our first title on all these platforms is like a dream come true."
"Auditorium is our baby and we're so happy to see it growing up," says Will Stallwood, the other half of Cipher Prime. "Auditorium in HD will be a beautiful and breathtaking experience."
