Deals Of The Week For February. This is from the Japan blog, but is likely the same everywhere else.

February 2 - Splosion Man (400MSP, was 800)
February 9 - Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (800, was 1200)
February 9 - Invincible Tiger: Legend Of Hao Tao (800, was 1200)
February 16 - Battlefield 1943 (800, was 1200)
February 23 - FGN Battleship (400, was 800)

Also on the 3rd 0D Beat Drop Blaz Blue Special DLC will be added.

Got to say, I've found it pretty weird that the deals lately have been games that have already sold well instead of games that could do with an extra push.

One legacy port at a time it seems, they gotta finish up Perfect Dark. Also, at the rate Rare is going, 2011.

2007 Jetpac Refeuled
2008 Banjo-Kazooie
2009 Banjo-Tooie
2010 Perfect Dark

Jet Force Gemini anyone? Great game that would benefit nicely from a second analog stick :)

Quite strange that most of those are things that have been on offer already. Some of them on much better offers. :lol

Jet Force Gemini can't be made on a media without cartridges to house the little imp that hand draws a new frame whenever it can be bothered to.

February 3, 2010 - Imagine an overweight, lethargic Indiana Jones. That's the premise of an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade game called Lazy Raiders, a treasure hunting adventure starring one indolent archaeologist named Dr. Diggabone. Since he's not much of a tomb raider, it's up to you to bring the jewels to him. Instead of controlling the protagonist, you control the game world.

Your job is to rotate the catacombs and maneuver Diggabone past innumerable obstacles to the 16 Lost Relics. If you've ever played the classic arcade game Cameltry, it's a bit like that. Diggabone can survive falling great distances and slamming into walls but he won't live through too many encounters with spikes or boulders. The controls are easy enough: the left stick rotates the game board clockwise or counter-clockwise and the A button instantly flips the maze upside down, allowing you to quickly drop the doctor in his opposite direction. Rotating the world will cause anything that's not nailed down to roll and slide around the room. By doing so you can get Diggabone where he needs to go and also remove some obstacles from play.

Scattered around each maze you'll find gems to collect. Pick up enough and you'll reveal the Idols. You aren't required to grab the Idol in order to proceed to the next stage, though. For this, you merely need to find your way to the Golden Pick Axe. Time is ticking and you are rewarded for finishing quickly, so you'll have to decide whether or not it's worth going for the Idol.

Lazy Raiders makes good use of its unique world-twisting mechanic and presents many creative opportunities to players. Crafty archaeologists will learn how to roll boulders around a maze in order to crush all the spikes and clear their path. At first fire traps seem to be only a nuisance until you realize you can use them to ignite TNT crates and blast open new pathways. There is definitely a learning curve to the game but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to pull off some pretty cool tricks.

This is one of the most polished and good looking XBLA games we've played in a while. It's got an attractive cartoon art style with bold colors and the good doctor's animations are fluid. Lazy Raiders also supports your Xbox Live Avatar so you can replace Diggabone with your likeness.

The leaderboards will allow you to compare your score for each level with other Raiders around the world. This is a single-player game, though, so you're on your own in the catacombs.

Lazy Raiders is looking like a nice addition to Xbox Live Arcade. It will be released February 24 and will set you back $10.

So whatever happened to "Cletus Clay", that XBLA game that was done with claymation? It sounded really cool but it must have been canned.

It's being done by one guy as far as I know. I doubt it was canned. More likely he's just taking his time and doing it right.

Wow....not a single person bought Chime for $5? Come on guys it's freaking charity.

I think I will tomorrow or the day after, I will have to go and buy some more points, bought around 10 games the past month including Splosion Man which is an awesome game by the way.

When does the charity thing expire for Chime?

I agree with you guys. It's a very nice game for $5. I'd buy some DLC for the game and I'm sure more modern classical acts like Philip Glass would be awesome. Come on Zoe Mode get on that Reich "New York Counterpoint."

Thanks for the update, I was wondering about that myself. Claymation like that is tedious work.

Speaking of which, I can't wait to see what you guys are up to. After Critter Crunch, Capy has earned total respect!

XBLA tops $100 Million in 2009

Proving that digital downloads may very well indeed be the future, analysts from the Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment have estimated that the $100 Million mark would have been passed in worldwide sales during 2009 and believe that 2010 will reap even more turnover for Microsoft:

Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE) has released its annual report for 2009 for the Xbox Live Arcade market. FADE estimates that XBLA just broke the $100 million USD mark for the year ending 2009, at $103.4 million – a 34% increase from the year prior. Top titles include the fastest selling XBLA title of all time ‘Battlefield 1943′ which sold over 800,000 copies in the year. According to FADE’s forthcoming annual XBLA report, average price of XBLA titles increased rapidly during the year – from a $8.33 average in 2008 to $9.12 in 2009. This increase was strongly reflected in the top 10 list by revenue, with half of the titles featured at or near the $15 price point.

The Xbox Live Arcade market also became more frontloaded, due to incredible sales numbers among ‘Summer of Arcade’ titles such as ‘Trials HD’, ‘Shadow Complex’, and ‘Marvel vs. Capcom’. ‘Castle Crashers’, a 2008 ‘Summer of Arcade’ favorite, saw continued sales throughout 2009 – selling an estimated 485,000 copies during the year, bringing its sales to just under 1,000,000 units sold in total.

FADE believes 2010 will continue to see strong growth with the upcoming Natal launch which will drive new types of Arcade games into gamers’ homes, and additional hardware into homes. According to the report, FADE states that average revenue per user was slightly down from 2009, at $2.79 per user. FADE believes the key for Microsoft in 2010 is to continue to increase hardware penetration, which was a critical point of sales increases in 2009.

Estimated Top Titles by Revenue, 2009 (Average Price):

Battlefield 1943 (EA Dice) – $12.5 million ($15.00)
Castle Crashers (The Behemoth) – $7.3 million ($15.00)
Trials HD (RedLynx, LTD) – $7.1 million ($15.00)
Shadow Complex (Chair Entertainment / Epic Games) – $6.1 million ($14.38)
Family Game Night (Hasbro) – $4.2 million ($9.53)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Capcom) – $4.2 million ($15.00)
Magic: The Gathering (Stainless Games) – $2.8 million ($10.00)
Worms 2 (Team 17) – $1.8 million ($10.00)
Peggle (PopCap Games) – $1.8 million ($8.86)
Turtles in Time: Reshelled (Ubisoft Singapore) – $1.7 million ($10.00)

Okay anyway to get MS points in smaller amounts? I remember some trick about going to the zune page and getting your points there. I looked on zune.net, but is 400 points the smallest amount I can snag?

Ugh I have 280 points and just need 120 to get me to 400 so I can buy Chime.

Wow, I thought this was on indefinite hold. I love Toki. When?

No, it is very much being worked on, I imagine the game is being targeted for Spring or Summer, it all depends on a publishing deal.

Did PB Winterbottom get a confirmed price? I mean, I'm assuming 800 since a) Axel and Pixel, also by 2K Games, was 800--and despite being great fun didn't do super well so I can't see anyone wanting to push the price point, b) holy fuck stop pricing things at 1200 points you idiots... but I wasn't sure.

I'm skipping Darwinia (wasn't really interested in it on PC for cheaper, definitely not interested in it ported to 360 and more expensive), but PB Winterbottom and Lazy Raiders are definitely on my radar.
