Find someone who speaks Spanish, and have them get a dev kit to the guy who makes MiniRacing, and I'll be eternally happy. Make it so you can have 2k6-like leagues, and I'll buy the 360 when it's released, regardless of which family member I have to sell off.

pleasepleaseplease make it happen

At his board, Jeff has pretty much said that yes, he is developing for Arcade.

It'd be crazy for him not to. He already knows how to code for 360, and he already has a relationship with Microsoft.

There are alot of old Arcade games I would love for XBLA.. but honestly, if someone could just get MK2 with online multiplayer, I would be in heaven.

I agree.

It's one thing to have some real old school arcade classics, but games from that era would be ones that I look forward to most. Imagine a game like NBA Jam.

IMO the BEST way to do it is to have a virtual arcade, a 3D level where you can walk around and see these original cabinets in all their glory. Go in front of a game and hit start to play. It would be neat to see this extended to the point where there are other gamers there and you can challenge them to games. It'd be the like the arcade scene of old, but online. It's too much to ask for...I don't know why I brought it up. :P

He doesn't sound as optimistic as he once did...

If they want me to do it, I'll do it. I'll be *happy* to do it. I could do extraordinary things. I know how, I have the tools.

Will it happen? I don't know. The fact that the guy got a "resigned" response is purely indicative of the trouble I face trying to do this. Some people really get what I'm trying to do. Some people just have a resistance to it for some reason, I don't know why.

Even Neon is and has been such a roller-coaster because of just that. We've had to fucking fight every step of the way, and we'll have to do the same to get any further.

Oh, I can do it, I'd be overjoyed to do it, but it's not a given.

It's always a fucking battle.

Then his coding partner says:

Bottom line is not easy.

We are ready to do and willing to do stuff and full of ideas and what we can do we do, we never stop working on things and
"fighting" for what we believe is worth.

But *NOTHING* is easy not even if you are Yak, you have years of history and
"everybody" knows you are able to do wonderful stuff.

It's always hard, it always take time, patience, "ox mode", risk, lot of faith
and of course quite a bit of luck too.

"Nothing comes for free".

...

.. ideas are not missing ... nor will, nor work, we are working ...

NEW things are coming out and will come out ..

The good thing is that now that Jeff is up to speed on 3D, new chipset features, and related APIs, he can always release for PC/MAC/whatever instead of depending on Live Arcade.

Also worth noting is that reserves the right to use his Neon technology in non-console lightsynths, and on any platform in games.

Y'think Atari would give us a Live-enabled version of Combat?

Now THAT is what I call an awesome killer app! :D

starting to sound pretty good, a rival for the rev service?

Hello catfish, how are you? Listen man, I couldn't help but notice this comment of yours....I am very curious as to what you're referring to when you say "the rev service". I realize "rev" means the Nintendo Revolution, but what's this "service" comment you're talking about? Are you implying that Nintendo is also creating an online multiplayer service similar to Xbox Live Arcade for the Revolution? Are you implying that they are going to allow us to play their popular games such as Super Mario Bros., etc online?

If so, please post a link to this news. :)

“We’re proud to be part of Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox 360, the world’s first and only destination where gamers can find, download and buy smaller games directly to their console,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “Retro, casual and hardcore gamers will be pleased to have access to the selection of quality SEGA titles we plan to offer via the new Xbox Live Arcade.”

On a highly positive note, you'll see Llamasoft on the list, which is Jeff Minter's one-man studio. We're quite keen on seeing what he can cook up on the 360 besides the tripy music visualizer. Mizuguchi's Q! Ententertainment (of Lumines fame) and Harmonix (Frequency and VibRibbon) are also a welcome suprises on the list.

the best part of arcade is going to be when you first get the system, its late at night and you're finally done playing and trying out all your launch games. you're tired and you wanna go to sleep then you realize you forgot to try out arcade and all of a sudden you're not tired anymore and you're awake another hour demo'ing the crap out of the games. :D

oh and how the hell is there no poker at launch? i wouldnt buy it but poker seems like a no-brainer considering its popularity right now.

Oh Christ, if there is no poker the wife is going to be PISSED!! Half of my sell to her was Texas Hold'Em on Live. WTH??

not to start any wars but...

Xbox Live Arcade is looking a tad bit better than Nintendo's Virtual Arcade right now.

if Nintendo has third party support for their virtual arcade... i will take back this comment.

I agree. atm Live Arcade sounds awesome. If Nintendo has good 3rd party support then it'll be a tough choice between the two but if it's just Nintendo vs all of Xbox Live Arcade's devs then MS win

lol - and the headlines in the papers on November 23rd would be: "GAMES CONSOLE TURNS PLAYERS INTO GAMBLING ADDICTED ZOMBIES!!!"

Betting for marketplace points would be cool though :D

Unless they're robust I don't see how MS can justify charging for simple games like Chess, Checkers, Euchre, Poker, Hearts, etc. when you get them for free on PC from just about anyone. Still they should definately be there and be there at launch.

An interesting observation about the launch lineup - there are five different robotron style games (robotron, smash tv, geometry wars, mutant storm, crystal quest). The strange part is that I think those are about the five best titles at launch, and I wouldn't want to cut any of them...

Wow I didn't even think of that! How cool would that be?! A game of online monopoly, with voice comms. It would just a really chilled, laid-back experience, IMO

these are all great ideas but for some reason i dont MS fleshing out arcade as much as we'd all like. board games would be a really big stretch IMO but i'd like to proven wrong by jes.

There is a "card and board game" category in Arcade, so the possibility of doing more of those games is there. It is also one of the most appealing categories to the "casual" gamer, which is one of Arcade's goals.

And sp0rsk, of course you meant to point to games.msn.com, right? ;)

and ya dont have to pay for it!

Exactly why XBLA should be competitive with the barebones offered by Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Gamespy, and every other company that has a piece of this pie. I know plenty of people I'd rather play chess with using voice so we can bullshit instead of typing, it'd be especially great since they're across the country.

So you think its possible for Rare to release their N64 games on XBL Arcade??

Surly EA and Rare can sort something out for Goldeneye?? :D

If they get THQ to port No Mercy with voice and online play, then i'd be in heaven

so can anybody confirm that classic games like Contra & Castlevania on the SNES & Sega will be available in the future for XBLA??

that would be crazy. :)

The most exciting thing about it IMO is the independantly developed games, frankly we could get some real gems that would typically not be made by the big corps. I hope Microsoft makes it easy and worth their while.

Between this and gametap, this is going to be nothing short of MAGNIFICANT!!!!

Nice, please give me the X-Men, TMNT, and Simpsons arcade games. While you're at it, toss in the old Mortal Kombat games and port of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Do that, and I could see myself playing XBL Arcade more than anything else.

I wonder if Sega would be able to put on some old Genesis and Saturn games. Panzer Dragoon or Nights maybe?

Quick question - can we still use our credit card for Arcade titles/Marketplace or is it Points Cards alone?

I'm fairly sure that you can buy points with your credit card from right in the Guide. If not there, then at least from the dashboard.

Just a head's up. :D

im definitely budgeting about $30 towards xbl arcade games. im really happy MS made it a point for every game to have a demo, that's huge. it may seem like it should have been a given but im just happy its there and we dont have to take chances.

If they simply scale that Kaloki game down to a 640x360 letterbox, It's going to be unreadable on some old 19" fuzzy television. A game like that is going to have to have alternate hud/menu elements for a standard-def setup, or they've got problems.

Any chance the Q? Entertainment games are Lumines or Every Extend Extra?

Both would be natural fits. Especially if you could add stages by addtional D/L.

XBLA is definitely one my more anticipated features of the 360, especially with so many developers signed on already.

I would be interested to see what Alexey Pajitnov has in works for Arcade, espeically since he makes puzzle games for MS now.

Yup, I am well aware of Hexic. I play it all the time on my computer. Brilliant game and probably the first thing I will play when I end up picking up my 360. I wonder what new games he has in store though.

Hexic seems to have some awesome achievemnts as well. All the badges will be represented in your achievements. It'll be great to compare the badges against everyone on a friends list.

Online MK II would be a cool novelty for like 1 day. I doubt anyone would actually want to play it once the nostaglia wore off.

I was obsessed with the game back in the '90s and two weeks ago I couldn't play it for more than 20 minutes on Midway Arcade Treasures 2. Nostalgia's a bitch.

I still like playing it for nostalgia or with friends but it's not something that would be fun to play seriously against strangers for very long.

I'd want UMK3 out of all the MKs.
