Cool. So its just the South Park related. Thanks for that! Will pick up the game. And does Deathspank come outh this week? Will get that as well. Thanks for the help guys! Nothing worse than buying a game only for it to be half price a day or so later. Happened with me with Shadow Complex. Paid 1200 points for it 3 days later to be 560.

Didn't see any of this posted, so hopefully it's not old.

More here: http://cave-game.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2010/07/post-177f.html

It's also confirmed that it will be translated to English and it will be released worldwide.

Cave should be finishing development on it by the end of the month, so I'm hoping it won't be long until the XBLA GotY is finally out. :D

Destination Arcade to launch with the Summer of Arcade

I wanted to let you know that the Destination Arcade release date has been moved to next Wednesday to kick off the launch of the Summer of Arcade. We’ll start on July 21st with Limbo, followed by Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Castlevania Harmony of Despair, Monday Night Combat and we finish it off with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Also remember that if you purchase all five titles, and you’ll receive 1200 Points back. Complete schedule and details here. As I mentioned in my original post, Destination Arcade will only be available in the US. If I learn of any plans for other regions, I'll be sure to let you know.

XBLA vets, should I buy:

Rez HD
Psychonauts
Or wait for Deathspank?

Played demo's for Psychonauts and Rez, both seem cool. Waiting for impressions for DeathSpank.

I don't know if you have a PC but you could probably get Psychonauts for super cheap off of Steam, I got it on sale there for like $2 which is a good deal compared to what they're charging for it on Xbox Live.

I'd recommend you at least wait until Wednesday so you can try the Death Spank demo first, it sounds really good.

I don't think anyone can make that call till Wed, might as well wait if your tight on points.

About the Destination Arcade thing, Majornelson updated his blogpost with this :

Edit: I have learned that the Destination Arcade app will only be available for the duration of the Summer of Arcade promotion which ends August 18th.

What ? So US only and only available during the Summer of Arcade ? I dont get it :lol

So that new arcade store app is ONLY for the duration of summer? why even fucking bother microsoft, why?

Anything is better then how it is right now, which is either check out the most popular/downloaded/top rated and new top 10 or start digging into the A-Z listings.

And why the fuck is it US only?????

That's odd. Beta-testing a menu feature??
Even so why can't it live on? it looks better and more pratical plus it seems to have that "you may also enjoy:" part to it all. I hope it works well, fingers crossed that I can grab it with a US silver account to check it out.

Who cares about the app... It's really not hard at all to find what you're looking for. Don't know what the big deal is, tbqh.

Wait...why is this so awful?

One thing I'm hoping this Destination Arcade release does is prompt publishers of "dead" games to slash the prices of the games and associated DLC. Since there will be a sort by price option, you would think there would be a rush to the floor (Is there a hard floor of $5 for XBLA games?).

For instance, I was browsing the card & board games available and stumbled upon this solitaire game that came out 3 years ago. It costs $10 dollars!! It even has 9 DLC packs that are a little under $2 a piece. So with all DLC content, the game would cost around $25!! I would maybe buy the game for a buck maybe even up to five bucks if all dlc was included since my wife loves card games, but at $10 - $25 the game has to be dead content.

IMO, any game that's 2+ years old should be price slashed to the floor. Why don't digital games follow the same economics of retail products?

I think this exactly what you will see happen once the app is out.

Digital games don't have a physical shelf space to compete with. There is no need to clearance. Also, since most of them weren't using state of the art graphics to begin with, the average person has no clue how old it is. An old game is always new to somebody. Unless you have the data, who is to say what game is making money and what isn't.

Leaderboards, my friend.

Edit: Using ratings could be a decent rough estimate too, but there are a lot more variables with that.

Actually, it is hard to find what you're looking for if you own well over 100 XBLA games. Well, not hard, but time consuming.

It won't help you.

The app is just for buying new games, not browsing the ones you have, AFAIK.

IllFonic Licenses CryEngine3 for Futuristic Arena First-Person Shooter

Denver, CO USA – July 13th, 2010: Crytek GmbH (“Crytek”) and IllFonic, LLC announced today that IllFonic has licensed CryENGINE 3 for Nexuiz, their upcoming XBLA and PSN cult futuristic Arena First-Person Shooter dropping this Winter. CryENGINE®3 has allowed the IllFonic development team to achieve their vision for Nexuiz that will push the limits of what gamers can expect from an AAA digital downloadable title.

“IllFonic firmly believes in bringing the consumer the highest quality games at an affordable price through downloadable distribution channels”, said Charles Brungardt, President of IllFonic. “Switching to CryENGINE 3 has helped us stay true to our vision and build the Nexuiz arenas the way we see it without any limitations. We are incredibly proud that Nexuiz will be the first downloadable title developed on CryENGINE 3.”

“We’re delighted to have Illfonic join our community of licensees”, said Carl Jones, Director of CryENGINE Global Business Development. “It’s exciting to see a passionate group like Kedhrin and Charles’ team working with CryENGINE 3 on such a cool title. Nexuiz is going to deliver a game style that will be a blast for the console audience, matched with the best graphics possible on the consoles. We’re delighted to offer our engine to teams for XBLA and PSN titles so that gamers can enjoy the quality that CryENGINE 3 can provide, as soon as possible. Our real-time multiplatform pipeline, Live Create, is highly suited to prototyping and delivering quality for games with shorter development cycles; and you get all the benefits of the AAA features of the engine. Nexuiz is going to be a lot of fun and we’re glad Illfonic have chosen CryENGINE 3 to deliver it in style.”

"When we were strolling around GDC 2010's floor we stopped by the Crytek booth. I watched someone show off a few features of CryENGINE 3. Right then and there, I knew I had to have it. It's powerful, fast and easy to use,” said Kedhrin Gonzalez, Creative Director of IllFonic. “Crytek has been awesome to work with providing excellent support in a relationship that has really benefited us."

Nexuiz is a fast paced Arena first-person shooter with competitive game play built specifically for consoles. Featuring the innovative mutator system, players progress through the ranks opening up new mutators that allow players to alter the rules for each match. On launch, Nexuiz will feature multiplayer modes including Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flagcomplete with full competitive leader boards designed for social networking. New games modes, models, and maps will be available as downloadable content post launch.

Nexuiz is set in a galactic war fueled for centuries by the Kavussari and Forsellians. Over time the two races entered into treaties with the Herald Accord, a union between different cultures in the galaxy. Even though peace settled across their planets, the seething hatred between the races kept the fire of war simmering under the fragile truce. Sensing their newest members could spread war throughout the galaxy; the Herald Accord gave the Kavussari and Forsellians a choice. Pit their warriors against each other in the arena rather than on the fields of war, or face total annihilation. The Nexuiz was formed, a series of battle arenas on the home planets of the Kavussari, Forsellian and the desolate planet of Atavirta.

IllFonic will be showcasing Nexuiz using CryENGINE 3 at this year’s PAX Prime in Seattle, WA, on September 3-5.

... another FPS for XBLA? Doh! O well, at least it'll look kinda pretty? I still prefer when companies use the DL space for genres that aren't already oversaturated on retail shelves as well...

True, but then how do you explain the downward pressure on price in the iTunes App Store and Steam? Answer: market forces, sale events, and lists that are pretty similar to the app MS is about ready to introduce for XBLA. I'm with JesseZao, I hope to see some older games reduced in price. The vast majority of XBLA games I've purchased at this point were because of sales.

And unless this has something unique and awesome about it the online community will die within a few months.

I personally prefer the DM style games to be like this on xbla because now days it seems at full price retail it's just not cutting it, unreal tournament 3 for example.

Rest in peace, old friend.
Games like this and some of the other 1200 allard titles should have been released inside the Games on Demand area of the system, a bit late now but it would have left arcade to be the smaller release titles, maybe someone out there would still be making 400 msp games and not rom emulations!

Yep, it's unrecognisable now but I'm not complaining at all.
Thank you Xbox Indie Games and App Store for taking up the reigns.

Yeah, that's mostly true, but it still seems like it's a missed opportunity for bigger developers with smaller ideas.

Unfortunately, publishers can't control their own prices even if they wanted to :/

The change has also meant that we see titles like Braid, Shadow Complex, Limbo, Fez etc. so it's just for the better.

So i was just thinking, why is there no pre-order option yet? I would love to pre-order a game and when its released just turn on the 360 and it downloads automatically. They did this with Sam and Max PSN, so why isnt it a full time option? I would love to order Deathspank, Limbo and Hydro Thunder. That way i do not spend my points on other things.

That sounds like a wonderful option. I'm surprised MS hasn't come up with this on their own.

They figure you'll buy Deathspank, Limbo and Hydro Thunder anyways, even if you do buy other games first.

I really cant tell if your being sarcastic or not. I will just assume you are not and say thank you :D

Of course but sometimes, people cant wait and waste their points on other things, and than have no money for the games they may have wanted. Heck, they could even include pre-order incentives such as a free theme or gamerpics or even avatar items.
