Watch for KidInsomnia out there. It's me.

Yep. We just played about half an hour of multiplayer. Good stuff. There are at least two types of multi games as far as I can tell - gem collect games and battle arenas.

I mean, none of this is earth shattering or anything, but it's worth the $10 fo'sho.

I bought the game after some hesitation. Protocol Snow is the GamerTag

Is there a glitch in the friends leaderboard? I can't see anybody, and I know for a fact somebody on my friends list has already played through these levels.

Brief impressions of MBU... like others have mentioned, it's essentially MB with better physics and nice clean graphics. Time trial can be so addictive. You can play the same level over and over and over again just to improve by fractions of a second.

Multiplayer - I only played the level called King of the Hill. There was 3 players, it was completely lag free. The one I played was collect the gems to win... I felt that was odd given the title of the map... and there was no hill.

It's probably going to end up being my favorite XBLA game so far.

I agree :D #1 on level 8 right now! This is fun! (I'm sure I'll be off the top sometime today though :lol )

Sorry to post again, but, how the hell do you do 6 seconds on the first level??

I got 7 seconds on it, but I see exactly how they do it. At the start you need to head slightly to the left and start jumping. Make a curve to the right up the ramp while still jumping and try to hit the far wall on your way up at an angle towards the goal. If you do it right you can rebound off the wall and vault yourself up to the top.

Nice :) You can clearly see these levels are all very well thought out, and aren't just rushed out there. Most of them have those little tricks that let you acheive those times that at first seem unachievable.

I actually like level 2 because of that reason :lol 3 seconds by just doing a mega jump.

That being said I KNOW level 4 has to have something like that. I've been trying to jump over that first wall for an hour now. I have come damn close.

The game has only been out for 6 hours and already atleast 2,000 have paid for it. :)

cayutek is 2,025th and currently the slowest on the 1st level with a time of 1:26.

Yeah, this is great! My favourite level from the first 20 is level 13! You have to time the last jump exactly right to get the best time possible!.. #1 on that one, let's see for how long.. :D

The only slight dissapointment is the lack of MP game modes. The physics are there so they could have come up with some mroe game types.

I think there is certainly areas for this game to be expanded upon.

Is it just me, or do those gravity modifiers have some shitty hit detection? I don't know how many times I feel like I fell right through them, falling to my death.

Crystal Quest needs to hurry up and come out.

I played that game to death back in the 80's on my Mac IIcx. That and a game called Solarian II (hey whoever does the Arcade stuff.. put THAT game on! :)) I wanna get hooked again.

I downloaded it last night. It's great! I've not bought it yet but I will soon.

Anyone else get a really strong Monkey Ball vibe from it though? That's a good thing, IMO, since SMB is one of my favourite games :D

Just bought it myself, sweet game :D Online play is awesome too.

i saw the movie of Crystal Quest.. I cannot discover what the addiction is in this game.
Hopefully I find out soon in DA DEMO.
Mutant Storm Reloaded is my FAV still together with my own music in the background.

Have they corrected the rather annoying slowdowns in MBU that I was getting in the beta XBLA?
For such simple graphics it was really stupid looking.

From Pat Wilson's blog awhile back:
Brian made some fantastic changes to TSE that upped our framerate by over 600% in some cases. That's Marble Blast Ultra running in 1280x720 (720p) at over 500 frames per second. The glass is fully refractive. Note the shadows are getting re-worked by Mr. Matt Fairfax at the moment, but we went from an inconsistant ~60fps in 720p to consistantly over 500fps from these changes...which will get put back into TSE head.

hey, which arcade games are must downloads... i've never really played these games cept for like smash TV

i've played: geometry wars, marble, pool, hexic

what are the absolute best ones with most replay value, thanks...

I downloaded MBU last night and after playing through the first 10 levels, I have to say that it's pretty damn good and fun. The short level sizes will make it extremely enticing to keep repeating them just to try and get a high score.

no slowdowns here either... this game runs like butter.

MBU YES!

I finally cleared Level 38 to get my Intermediate Scrub Achievement. Took me damn near twenty minutes, BUT I GOT IT. (Par is like three minutes by the way. Fun.) There's that one stretch towards the end that's just like 18 pure precision hops until the next checkpoint. I am now officially a Precision Jump Master. What I also love about this game is that you don't realize it but you're getting better and more precise every time you try. When I look at back at how insanely difficult I thought the first Intermediate Board was it's pretty amazing. This game is hell of well designed.

Sorry to be lazy, but does anyone have a good link to screens/vids of this game in action?

edit: Is this 16:9 or does it display 4:3 on a widesreen with borders?

Full no, hardcore, 16:9 action and, frankly, it's gorgeous. It's not doing much so it can afford to have some of the prettiest textures I've seen anywheres. The ice is nicely transparent (subtley, I mean. Sort of foggy looking.) And the draw distance and Hi Def clarity actually helps you in the game. You can be super precise. For example, many of the ice sections (which have more slippery physics) are lined by a small row of ceramic (read: normal physics) tiles. If you're careful, you can ride those up icy inclines that would otherwise be almost impossible to roll up. I'm sure lesser systems can do this sort of thing, but it's so much more accurate with this level of detail interacting with such a specific physics engine. I remember playing Super Monkey Ball on other systems I'd just be falling off edges left and right, trying to judge if that polygon was on or over the edge. Here you can tell 100% where you are and how close you are totally ganking yourself. This is also very helpful in pulling off precision jumps. Kudos as well goes to the joystick, which also feels hell of precise.

MBU: 360 Showcase Game? Strange but true.

This will be my first purchase game on XBOX Live Arcade, is there a way to buy it without buying first an XBOX Live Point Card ? Can I buy it using a credit card directly thtough the X360 ?

Yes. Go to the Marketplace menu, press X, and select the option of points you wish to buy (500/1000/1500/2000.)

Beginner and intermediate modes are way too easy I think. I was able to break par on most of them on my first try. I have a few left to go in intermediate mode.

Hard mode is really hard.

Nearly 5,500 sales in 24 hours.

Incredible. XBLA is poised to explode big time. We'll see/get to play games that we'll never have been able to otherwise. This is a win-win situation for consumers and developers alike. Bring on more games!

Oh, another request. How about a new Doom? Give us the gameplay of the originals (Doom 1, 2, etc), but spruce it up with next gen graphics!

I've sank lots of hours into MBU now. One thing that amazes me is the very tight controls. It probably is a mix of the 360 controller and the game, but with a little practice you'll be pulling some high precision moves.

I think the difficulty level is fairly consistent in the grading. The game uses a 1-10 to grade difficulty. I've cleared beginner and inter. under par. The hard level is very hard and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get under par on all of them.

Multiplayer kicks ass... the maps are what makes the multiplayer so good. Good variety. One map is very big and it turns into a race to get to the gems, another is very small so it turns into a brawler, one is ice based and getting gems is a challenge for everyone. Very simple gameplay, but the netcode is so good that I've yet to experience any lag.

I need some more people on my friends list with this game. If you have it send a friend invite to jedimike.

MBU really feels great to play. Sadly it is the kind of game where you feel there isn't nearly enough levels to satisfy you since you want to keep playing it and try and beat new challenges. But the levels that are there are great for the most part and some are fun enough for you play around in for hours.
Maybe they will be able to add map packs for it down the road or something similar.

The major bummer about online play is how the game just gets discarded if the host leaves during a session.

There is definately scope for map packs. I would gladly pay 400 pts for another 20 single player levels and 3 mutlplayer maps. Some new MP modes would be nice too.

The host dropping is annoying but getting into a game has been a piece of piss for me. The interface is actually quite clean and well laid out.

Also the great atmosphere in the game as far as voice comms go is excellent, which is a testament to how fun this game is.
