i saw the movie of Crystal Quest.. I cannot discover what the addiction is in this game.
It's easier to understand once you just sit down and play it. It kind of plays similarly to Geometry Wars in that you control a ship and can fly around and shoot.
The difference is that when you move your ship, inertia plays in so if you move too fast, you're not gonna be able to turn on a dime. Second, you're not all that powerful; you have a gun, but it's kinda limited in that it shoots slowly and only in the direction you're going, and some smart bombs too which are the "field clearers." The game relies much more on your skill in navigating around the screen, getting the crystals, then getting the hell out of dodge to the exit. Enemies come out of these bases, slowly at first but faster, will follow you around, or shoot at you. Also, the number of "mines" in a level will go up which are just more obstacles for you to dodge (and it gets f-ing hectic pretty quickly.)
The game is not completely a shoot everything in sight thing like Geometry Wars, but a very careful precision/movement based game... again grab everything and get the hell out.
Damn... I'd love to see some of the games from my adolescence and childhood on this service. Here's MY wishlist:
Crystal Quest (done!)
Solarian II
Diamonds 1 and 2
Glider
Spectre
Doom 1 and 2 (with online; make it happen)
Test Drive II: The Duel (updated for color preferrably)
Some of Will Wright's earlier sim games; Sim City (2000) and maybe SimAnt
Hell... even Marathon and Myth They'd make sense obviously since they're Bungie's bunch
