Nope, you shouldn't get charged for using a router. Your ISP may not want to give you phone support while you are using one though. Here is a diagram and info showing you what to do for a router setup, it is pretty easy:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/router.htm

I recommend the Linksys WRT54G - very common router you can find everywhere, it is pretty cheap, and supports wired and wireless connections.

I have a question.

I read here before that purchased arcade games are linked to gamertags, right? Then why is it that I bought a game with "gamertag1", and when I sign in with "gamertag2", I can still play the full version of that game?

And if this is true, can I come over to a friend's house, buy an arcade game there with my gamertag, bring my gamertag back home, and we both can play the full version of the game, for the cost of one game?

Content purchases are linked to both the machine you made the purchase on and the account that made the purchase. The game can be played offline on the Xbox 360 used to purchase it. The game can be played online on any Xbox 360 if the gamertag that purchased it is signed in.

Hmm, are you sure? I just played Marble Blast Ultra online (with some other people) with a gamertag that didn't purchase the game... And that was the only gamertag that was signed in.

On the local machine, the arcade game has "all profile" access. Anyone can play it on that machine. When you take the machine to a friend's house then the game has profile access. Only the person that downloaded the game can play it. If you copy that game to your friend's hard drive, then your friend can play the game in demo mode only.

So if I understand correctly, if I copy my gamertag to a memory card, then copy it to a friend's Xbox 360, and purchase a game there, anyone will be able to play that game, on that machine, right? Because the machine where it was purchased as "all profile" access.

And if I bring my gamertag back to my Xbox 360, I will also be able to play the full arcade game, because I bought it with my gamertag. Is this correct?

Sorry if I'm being dumb, but I'm just trying to understand this properly..

You lost me there... I think your trying to buy the game for your friend. The easiest way would be to go to the store and buy a 1600 point card.

My point was that by doing what I said above, it is possible to have a full arcade game on 2 Xbox 360s for the price of 1.

- First you buy it on your friend's house with your gamertag. The game is tied to that 360, so anyone can play the game on that 360.

- Then you can play on your own 360 too, since the game is tied to your gamertag.

With my limited undertanding about how arcade games are protected, I believe that your scenario would allow you both to play the game. I would be curious to know if you both could play it at the same time though.

Nonetheless, I think the Arcade games have enough value in them that spending $5 or $10 is not much to ask. The devs deserve the legitimate sale.

Yes, I'm not saying I would do that myself. Arcade deserves all the money it gets. :) I was just curious if this would be possible, and why Microsoft doesn't just link gamertags to their respective bought arcade games.

Most likely because in a typical household more than one person plays the 360.

I like the idea of having a local machine with global profile access for any XBLA game but what if my system goes in for repairs and I get a new one. How can XBLA be notified that I switched to a new system.

Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX, if there is a solution, they will be able to help you out.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but what the hell:

What is the point of playing Gauntlet, when you have unlimited credits? There is no skill needed at all. Just plunk in a thousand credits and play forever.

Is there some setting you can play at in the full game that restricts the amount of credits you get? Or is there any penalty for using a credit?

Play online.

afaik when you have a system repaired they automatically change ownership of the titles over to the console serial #. If you buy a new console from the store well then you aren't going to have much luck and will require to sign into xbox live everytime you want to play them.

Well that sucks, I bought a two year warranty from Best Buy.

Interesting interview to (I suppose) Jesiatha's boss. Read here

"A lot of those Nintendo games, you know, aren't gonna hold up." :lol

I think that quote was funny since most of these old games are still some of the best games ever made. I am certainly looking forward to the classic NES, SNES games with updated visuals.

And Nintendo could give XBLA a run for its money on their own. But what will be interesting to see from Nintendo is how accessible they make it for more stuff than the “virtual console” games.

That interview has me hell of psyched for XBLA in 2006. I guess it's kind of required to sort of snipe at your competition but that was the least interesting bit of it (and, naturally, the headline of the piece).

I'd be really surprised if Nintendo doesn't eventually branch out into original non-retro IP, but that might take a while.

One thing, though, I think he's overestimating the amount of work it would take Sony or Nintendo to "build those bridges" to developers to create Arcade-style content. Unless they start signing exclusives (or have already started doing so), Microsoft might have done all the elbow work for everyone else and all Sontendo have to do is dust off a little space on their servers for some multiplatform Arcadia.

That being said, they'll still be at least a year behind a full featured 360 arcade setup. And, again, no achievements.

"A lot of those Nintendo games, you know, aren't gonna hold up."

yeah....no. i actually like xbla and find it far more interesting than nintendo's virtual console idea, but this is delusional. today's second-rate games obviously won't stand up to yesterday's first-rate games, and it'll probably be quite a while before xbla's total catalog is half as entertaining as, say, super mario all-stars.

edit: i also like that gauntlet is his idea of a classic game that "holds up" :x

Holy shit, I just had an epiphany... we need Poy Poy for XBLA

I hope I'm not the only person who loved that game.

Has anyone had the chance to try novadrome yet?
I just updated my debug xbox 360 hoping it would fix the problem, but it's still the same. It's really strange, the game asks you to press start before showing the menu so I know it's working, but the menu itself simply doesn't respond to any keypress at all.

Same here. I tried using an US account too, thinking it coluld be related, but no success. I think they put up a very early version of the game simpy to test the downloading.

I just came in to say that I got Bankshot Billiards 2 free with the Xbox Live Gold kit, and I gotta tell ya, it sucks so much balls. 1 star difficulty CPU can do some amazing trickshots, its almost impossible to accuratly change the power of the shot (the meter just goes flying when you try to change it), and there are just so many options for a game that's just not fun at all. 1200 points my ass.

If you adjust the power while holding down the right trigger, it'll let you adjust it digit-by-digit. Same as accurate-aiming for the cue.

BB2 should have been an 800 point game, for sure, and sadly I think more people who might like it aren't buying it due to the price. Personally, I have a great deal of fun with it in Live multi-player.

Ahh okay, it would've been nice for it to have somewhere to look at the controls for the game, as they aren't that intuitive.

EDIT I guess you have to be a pool fan to like this game. For example, I didn't know that if you scratched a ball, you could put the ball anywhere you want, I've always played that you put it anywhere on the line. I guess I should look the rules up more. The trick shots, golf, and time trial stuff is all cool, but I'm just not having fun playing this game, not nearly enough to put the time required for the achievements of the game. Oh well.

Another annoying part of the game - everytime its your turn, your controller rumbles. Cannot be disabled. Yeah that doesn't piss you off fast or anything.

From what I've played on the debug it's a nice concept but it's the least polished game (visually) I've played on XBLA so far.

well, i ended up buying it but i only played 2 levels. PRetty simple early on but i can tell this will get good later on. Cant wait till tonight when i can play some more!

Goddamnit

Finally got my router and adapter-plugged the router into the computer, and it's running. set up the adapter on the computer and it runs. Plugged the adapter into the Xbox-damn thing won't even turn on. What am I doing wrong? Router's a Linksys Wireless G and the adapter is the same brand

I thought you had to have a microsoft adapter for it to work. I run it wired, why not bleh.

Christ, I'm not spending $100 on one of those. I might just get a damn cable if I can't figure this out

Yes, unfortunetly you need the Xbox wireless adaptor. MS can be so cruel sometimes.

EDIT - I am wrong as hell. See JediMike's post below.

Crystal Quest is pretty cool in a quasi pacman sort of way.

Plus there is a new remixed version too besides the classic version. Only 5 bucks I"ll probably pick it up.

That's not true. If you want to use wireless w/out buying the official adapter, then you have to buy a wireless bridge. If you want to use the USB port, then you have to buy the official adapter.

Whatever you used with your Xbox, assuming you had one, will also work with your 360.

Yeah, it's certainly not the best of the lot, but it's a nice Quick Fix game. It's not insanely difficult but still a smooth ride. Already snagged like 50 Points from it. I'd say it's worth a few bucks, which is exactly what I paid for it.

K, sorry for the error.
