Heavy Weapon for me is up there as one of the best Live releases,

The easyness stops at round level 6 and then the curve begins but online is a real blast and it reminds me of what a co-op geo wars would be like online as at first its all about getting teh achievements and then after its all about going for the scores on the.

Great fun when played with 3 other cool people to have some good tatics worked out ;)

Has any XBLA game dropped in price?
No. Some DLC content has dropped, or gone from having a cost to being free. I wonder if there's a policy in place for Arcade titles. Cloning Clyde needs to get to $5 to a lot more folks will buy it.

I just want a Live Arcade release schedule. Is that so hard? :[

SOTN and Sonic plz.

Heavy Weapon ain't bad at least.

Apparently, it's on PartnerNet. The achievements are out so that confirms it. Should be out within in the next, oh, probably a short time-span for XBLA...sometime in 2008 or so, I'm guessing. It has to be "certified" you know! Might be pushed back into 2009 since "certifying" a long game like that might take double the usual time.

I have a tentative schedule. looks like SOTN will be out before 2008 I'm afraid. sorry to disappoint.

Hey arne, do you think it's feasible we might see something like XBLA Platinum Hits or something like that in the future? I'm sure it's something you guys have kicked around.

sure why not. it's feasible, I would say most things that have been discussed on gaf for XBLA are feasible.

not sure the chances on if and when that will happen though. that's a strategic decision I am not privy to, as for most ideas that would get "kicked around."

Yeah, I can think of reasons for and against from MS's perspective, for sure. As much as it would be nice to get some titles moving that aren't really moving anymore, I doubt the "hits" really need much help. I'm sure Geometry Wars, Doom, etc don't need much of a boost. Thanks for the prompt response.

Arne, why do you think people on the Internet are so cynical to XBLA and the frequency as to when content is released?

Is Microsoft at least aware of the growing frustrations of the users and are they doing something to address it?

People also b*tch about Nintendo's VC content and Sony's PSN stuff. The difference, of course, is that there are unmasked Microsoft folk on this board so people complain more since they know someone from the mothership is looking at it.

Personally I just wish we'd have a little more advance notice on XBLA releases, but the Heavy Weapon head's up was a great start. :) If they wanna do more releases a week that'd be nice too, but it'd only amount to getting money out of me faster (those bastards!).

because they're spoiled children only in it for instant gratification? :lol

I think, most people in the internet, we've got content ADD. we want more content, right now, all the time and for it never to stop. there has to be a constant refresh. and don't forget that most gaming boards, they're just like gaf, it's all about the game of the week/month and that's not even talking about XBLA.

that being said, there have been a bunch of challenges which haven't helped not having you guys get frustrated. we had a discussion last week I think, where I said, that stuff is being actively worked on. it's going to take a little while for everything to fall into place, but hopefully that will be soon and that will work out well.

i'll probably duck out of this thread now, since last week we went back and forth about the same thing without much of a resolution -- not that there is one right now really.

Arne,

Is Sonic still in development? We haven't heard a thing since E3 last year and as we haven't seen ANYTHING from Sega on XBLA I have a concern that we will never see Sonic.

Can you give us any hints?

To your credit, this game got announced last week - a big improvement. I'm hoping that's a sign of things to come. The content the last three months has been night and day difference from the previous three. We just want more more MORE! :p

you spoiled brat! this is your mother's fault. go to your room! no dessert for you tonight.

I could say something that would make you feel really bad for that one, but I won't. :) I'll just mope off to play connect-the-dots with my four year old. Then check out the Heavy Weapon demo.

...

Did I really lose dessert? My wife made cookies. :(

oh don't say that dude. that was bad enough to even insinuate. blah.

Heavy Weapon is fun, but like other have said, damn it gets hard once you get to level 6. I can get up to that point without dying once, and then once I start that level I use all my lives almost instantly. The levels are relatively short but I still wish this game had a checkpoint system - I'm already pretty sure I'll never be able to beat it. :lol

but Arne, you didn't answer my question. And I'm really itching to know the answer :)

because I have no idea.

I can't speak for Sega's development team or timetable.

afaik, anything that has been announced in the past, still stands.

OK Arne, no probs. Wish Greg Canessa would become a GAFFER, he would get raped initially but in the long-term would hopefully stop everyone moaning.

Obviously though that is never going to happen.

Sorry! But just for bringing it up, you need to watch Mr. T instruct you on the proper ways to discuss moms. All of it.

I think arne is pretty stalwart to stick around after his welcome. Chris took an even harsher beating. I don't see Greg joining anytime soon! :lol

well, spoiling the joke, the insinuation in my end was that I was your dad and i was sending you to your room for being a petulant little child. but whatever, I suck

actually, I think a long long time ago, Greg posted once or twice on here. I can't confirm, but I vaguely recall some discussion among gaffers about it.

Ah, I didn't get the reference. Sailed right over my head. Bah, I suck. :(

Back OT:

Tried the demo. Liked it. My daughter joined in for a 2p game - we both liked it. Game purchased.

The hook of the game is the ability to customize your tank each level. I'm an absolute sucker for that kind of stuff since it gets me invested in the craft - balancing out offensive and defensive capabilities, doubling up on cool weapons just for the hell of it (rapid fire heat seaking missles FTW). The Flash roots show a bit in some of the sprites, but otherwise it looks like it's been heavily augmented. Fun game!

Arne, I appreciate the honesty. At least we know Microsoft is actively listening to its userbase and can admit the fact that there are some issues that need to be fixed. I really have not seen this type of user-company interaction from any of the other console manufacturers, so you guys are doing something right.

When it gets down to it that is the best we can really hope for. Thanks for the reply.

The best part is that I didn't even remember that today was XBLA release day until I saw this thread. Nice!

We get the point! Just because you don`t like todays release doesn't mean others don`t. No need to post the gif every week.

Okay, I thought the game was a cake-walk until level six. Jesus!

Levels 1-3: Zero deaths
Level 4: One death
Level 5: One death
Level 6: Six game-overs. I had to start over and build a re-balanced tank with enough forward firepower to shoot down the nukes the big chopper dropped.
Level 7: Game over halfway through on first attempt. Goddamn suicide bomb jets!

Looks like this one isn't quite the pushover Assault Heroes is (and I love that game).

Assault Heroes is the only decent Arcade game I've bought since UMK3. This just doesn't really seem too interesting. As somebody said earlier, bring on Platinum Arcade hits.

If you can get through Level 6, the next one isn't so bad. 8 and 9 are both pretty tough, though. You need to equip the lightning weapon, as there are a lot of tanks, trucks and such in the later levels and the lightning works great against them since it bounces off everything (so you can keep your aim pointed up for the rest of the enemies). I called it quits at Level 10, since it had taken me 2+ hours to get to that point. I'm pretty much sick of the game now.

No idea. Another thing that's not my turf. There's got to be a feedback mechanism for that somewhere I guess.

Yeah, they haven't even reported the results of the contest yet...whats up with that? I sent an email about it and got no answer

I guess I phrased that wrong. I'm pretty much sick of the mission mode, at least for now. After level 9, the game restarts and you play at all the same locations again but there's just more enemies. It's not like the backgrounds effect the game at all, but it would've been nice to have more variety. I just don't think it's worth the frustration to keep playing mission mode.

I'll still play the survival mode (online and off), since it's much less frustrating and better in small doses.

Really it repeats after 9? I was under the impression that there were 19 levels all with their own bosses. Bleh.
