I'd seen a number of video previews of Pac-Man CE, and I was really hyped for it. But then I downloaded the demo and was really underwhelmed. I'd suggest anyone who never liked the original much stay clear of CE. It's certainly not a big enough deviation from the main game to warrant too much excitement.

I say Catan if you like board games, it's one of the best I've ever played. It's got tons of strategy and depth and ways to win that I actually went out and got the real board game and got my friends playing. Pac Man CE is pretty good and they should have done this years ago with it but it's still the same game you've played before. I'll probably pick it up eventually but it's hard to spend $10 on it where as Catan was worth it without question.

Agreed. I love Catan. If I could find a local place to buy the boardgame I would. I enjoy it that much. Carcasonne on the other hand? I bought it and haven't really enjoyed it at all. Compared to Catan I am just not impressed.

There are some very major differences in Pac-Man CE.

IMO they changed things as much as possible while still keeping the Pac-Man formula. I never was any good at the previous Pac-Man games but CE is really fun and addictive.

When you boil it down, Carcasonne is just a variant of dominos. Yeah it's scored differently but it's still just dominos in the end.

Catan actually feels like a board game, which is why I prefer it over Carcassonne. XBLA needs more games like that.

I don't get motion sickness when I play Marathon. I do get sick of playing it though.

Like I said last year when I went through it, the game just doesn't hold up at all. People would be better served reading the Marathon story online rather than playing it.

I don't like the original Pac Man but I love Championship Edition. You should really play the complete game before telling people to avoid it. It's one of the best games on the service.

So I got Castlevania when it came out, beat it in one night and left it. Then I came back a couple days ago, realised I had only been through less than half the castle and started going back and cleaning up.

Holy **** this game is insane. There was so much stuff I missed out on it's rediculous.

here's a short list:
gravity boots
familiars(how did I not turn one on?)
wolf form
succubus(holy crap!) & a bunch of other bosses
bat sonar
spike breaker
boat rides
jewel sword(yay! monies!)
special weapon attacks I never realised existed(shield rod/ice sword especially)
fancy invisible cloak
cloaks that you can change the colors of
turning into an ax armor :lol
"nunchaku" tonfas and "scotch" sword

on top of all that, I just got to the ****ing inverted castle and realised I only finished half the game. And it's not just "go back and do it again" bull, it's... new.

ladies and gentlemen, my mind has been blown. I'm gonna finish the inverted castle thinking I did everything, only to go online later and find out I didn't do crap. I love this game.

I love Catan more because with some skill you can usually get out of a bad situation early. However the AI is cheap which is why I'll only play it online.

I'm the opposite. I've always hated Pac-Man, but I love CE. It has totally different gameplay IMO. It's all about figuring out the most efficient paths dynamically, while keeping your multiplier high.

Interesting responses to my statement. I honestly just felt like I was playing the same old game but with a different look. I'll give the demo a few more goes. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood when I played it last.

Thanks for the responses. I picked up Pac CE, and wow this is addictive. Have like 1100 pts left, still not sure if I should get two 400p games or 1 800pt . Really hate MS's point setup.

Well, I've only played the single player trial for Catan. Catan matches can last awhile. What happens if an online player decides to quit in the middle of a game? What if that player is the host? Was the whole match just a giant waste of time?

Watch the included recorded demo runs in the demo to see how the game progresses. Also, the various modes are all totally different (as far as they can be while adhering to the formula). I can easily sit down with the intention of having a couple of five minute runs and end up spending an hour on it.

(edit) I'll also point out that regular pacman has done nothing for me for over 20 years but CE is the shit.

Players who drop are replaced by CPU opponents. If the host drops, I believe it changes hosts, but I haven't played in a while so unsure.

Carcasonne was incredibly boring to me. There's almost no thought to it at all.

Sensi actually has a firm (yet subject to change) release date and that is August 29, 2007.

Anyway, ESRB Watch: Xboxic provides details about a shadowy entry that was posted on the ESRB website called Screwjumper.

http://www.xboxic.com/news/3388#more-3388

Checking other sources, a game titled "AAAH, SCREWJUMPER" was put on the OFLC a few weeks ago, also by THQ Pacific. Though it says it's Multiplatform.

What? The bricks may be random, but winning most certainly is not. Not to brag or anything, but I literally win every time I play online. Them fools are either not very strategic or terrified of sharing points with you (which is a big key to victory, btw, sharing each other's big cities). That means it couldn't possible be "too ****ing random," could it?

Why ESRB watch when you have me? :D

Yes, it's on XBLA. The "Aaah" part of the name has been removed, much to my dismay.

I would buy Carcasonne over them both. But out of the two, I would go with Pac Man.

I just watched some more Poker Smash videos and now I need that game like a drug. It might have enough clout to knock out Lumines and Puzzle Fighter for the puzzler title.

I don't know shit about poker but this game looks really fun.

WAR WORLD!

If you guys haven't seen this, it looks like an original Xbox game.

It certainly it among the best looking of games in all of XBLA, my concern is on pricing.

War World is made by old Rare devs from the N64 days... it should be good.

Yea, they go by the name of ThirdWave and if I recall correctly War World is actually reworking of a PC game, like Mad Tracks was.

Cool, Ecco the Dolphin this month. I loved that game in my old Genesis.

But I agree that this week release is poor, only a 400 pts remake. They should have hold Spyglass for this week. I guess some game failed certification at the last minute.

I do know shit about poker and it really looks like fun. Tetris Attack meets Poker? Can't wait. Wonder what they mean by "making poker hands" though, since in Poker any hand can win. :D

My purchases from that list:

-“Ecco the Dolphin”
-“Hexic 2”
-“Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords”

I find the lack of Mutant Storm Empire disturbing.

I love Track and Field, but I got the Konami arcade compilation for DS... it's got T&F, plus a bunch of other games and I paid $15CDN for it (used). Can't really justify buying it again -- the DS version seems pretty true to the original, except that you're mashing a single button to run.

My poor DS, though, I think I'll wind up killing it :)

I'm buying a points card for the first time today and I need to know what the absolute best games are. I'm only getting a 1,600 point card and I'm getting UNO for sure. So whats the best games I can get with 1,200 points?

You could get Turtles, Geowars and Spyglass/One of the Hardwood games all for 400 each. This way you have a wide variety.

But then there's Pacman CE, Worms, Pinball, Catan for 800 then one of the 400 ones.

Also WOW at summer XBLA lineup, can't wait Hexic2...

Can't wait for Hexic 2, in the meantime I'm still loving Carcassone, even though I get whooped online (7W-25L)

Yeah but now there's a Live leaderboard. You can compare your e-peen size with other javelin tossers from around the world.

Heh... actually a leaderboard is pretty awesome, but I imagine like every other Xbox Live game on the planet, I'll rank way down in the thousands, despite having pretty impressive button-mashing 'skills' ;)

How is Super Contra in online coop? Any lag?

While I'm asking, how is the original Contra in that aspect as well? Did they ever fix the lag issues?
