I decided not to get Spyglass games. Aside from the crappy presentation, I just can't play Chess on a TV screen. If the board isn't in front of me I always end up missing something obvious.

You can get desensitised to motion sickness. The only FPS that made me ill was the original Wolfenstein, so I'll have to see what this one is like.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix crawls closer

An astute reader tipped us off to an advertisement, rotating its way around IGN this morning proclaiming that Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was available for download. Skeptical, we fired up the clapped-out old banger and checked Xbox Live Arcade to little fanfare. It was time to get Capcom on the horn.

Unsurprisingly, the banner was merely IGN's advertising department jumping the gun and the ad was quickly removed upon mention. Capcom did, however, confirm that Super Puzzle Fighter will still be seeing a coordinated launch this month (the first of its kind, they add) across Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam. Keep your eyes peeled for a more concrete date, but rest assured ... it's soon.

[Thanks, Seth!]

I don't, but that's because most of the development team are hardcore Bungie.org guys who have been playing the game for years.

And it's hard to track this down - there's no consistency. It's happening at 480i and 1080p; some people say the bobbing helps, while others don't; and according to that poll earlier, apparently it's a pretty even 50/50 split as to people getting affected. It's hard to fix when you can't exactly be sure of the cause.

That said, I know they're working on trying to find a cure-all, and if anyone has any bright ideas, please post them here and I can pass them along to the team.

id announces Quake Arena for Xbox Live Arcade

The finest railgun in the business will be making its way to Xbox Live Arcade as id announces Quake Arena for Microsoft's download service. Previously, this release was merely a rumor fueled by a surprise listing on the ESRB website, so it's great to finally have an official word to go on.

Also true to the ESRB listing is that Pi Studios -- best known for their work on the Call of Duty series and the upcoming Mercaneries 2: World in Flame -- is behind the port.

No comment as to when Quake Arena will see release was made by id.

Let is be known that Microsoft is at last aware of the Motion Sickness problem and is going to go about addressing the problem soon.

Marathon Durandal Making You Green in the Gills?

I don't really know what green in the gills means, but it doesn't sound pleasant.

We're seeing reports that some gamers people are experiencing discomfort with continued play of the Xbox LIVE Arcade game Marathon: Durandal. We're told that within the next few days we'll implement a dashboard message on the download screen to provide some steps gamers can take if this affects them. We're also investigating other options to address the issue.

Latest lists from Major Nelson:

Top Arcade Titles (Full Versions)
1 1 Bomberman LIVE
2 - Spyglass Board Games
3 - Marathon: Durandal
4 2 Sonic The Hedgehog
5 - Super Contra
6 3 Golden Axe
7 6 UNO
8 - Wing Commander Arena
9 - 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures
10 7 Worms

XBLA Titles on the Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (UU’s)
6 7 Bomberman LIVE

There were no lists last week (because of Comic-Con), so comparisons are against the lists from two weeks ago.

I'm playing Boom Boom Rocket Demo right now and loving it. Am I part of the problem ?
I have to admit that this is my first rythm game, but what is fundamentally wrong about this game that should prevent me from playing it ?

The fundamental problem with BBR, as a rhythm game, is that the timing is slightly off. You press the buttons at the height of a tone (whatever that's called in music terms), rather than the beginning of it like in every rhythm game ever. Makes the game much harder than it needs to be.

But I liked it well enough too. Clearing five laps of endurance on hard is great fun. Buy it.

mutant storm empire is a definite buy, it looks like it's gonna offer all kinds of slickness, thanks for the heads up shard!

also it's sad to see pacman:ce not even being on weekly top 10, the game deserves much mucchh more love than it's currently getting. i guess most people do not spend enough time to delve into the strategic gamepay and look at it as regular old pacman with fresh coat of paint. sad even sader than lumineslive pricing :(

Hod does UNO continue to sell so well? It is pretty fun for awhile, but wow. Every other game gets buried in a few weeks but UNO just keeps on going.

It's not necessarily selling. People are just playing it a lot.

I've been playing Soltrio Solitaire lately and have a couple of questions.

- Tips for winning Archway?
- Tips for winning Matrimony? This one's really lame, unless I'm missing something.
- Tips for getting the Flying Aces achievement?
- Being a solitaire newb, which are the interesting games in the downloadable packs?

Glad your not asking about Zodiac that's one a bitch to explain....:lol

While I haven't beat Archway myself, I've come damn close, my only tips are don't play if you have any low kings or aces, just re-deal. This is supposed to be the game that has the lowest win rate outta all of them and chances are this is the one game many of us haven't beaten yet.

Matrimony sucks and it's the other game I don't have a win in yet, I've come close but outta 100 games no win, most people say to auto deal it and keep hitting X until you win, but I've had no luck with that either. Also there's a glitch where the Queen of Diamonds stack will wrap around meaning it will let you play more cards on top of it then it should, which ruins the other piles...

For flying aces, just re-deal Klondike until you have 4 aces showing, then play them on the foundation without touching the stock pile...

Not touching the DLC until I get the first 18 beat...

No, the XBLA list is actually based on sales that week. From Major Nelson:

These lists are based on global unique users connected to Xbox Live or in the case of Arcade, full versions purchased this week. If the Xbox 360 list and the original Xbox list were combined, then Gears of War continues to be the top Xbox Live title. The arcade list is based on full versions purchased.

I was not aware it was based on Arcade games sold that week. That is crazy. UNO is fun though. Perfect kind of game that you can just start up, get right into it and have fun. But if Major Nelson is correct in his statement that it is Arcade games sold that week, then UNO should be the top selling Arcade game of all time. No other game has been in the top 10 seemingly every single week since launch.

Also, Super Puzzle Fighter better not come this week. My 360 just died on me and having Puzzle Fighter come out this week might just make me run out and buy an Elite!!!

Wow, never knew that. In that case, my Leaderboard comparison with major nelson's list isn't accurate at all...

Yeah, I'm not sure how to fix that unless you start tracking weekly XBLA sales as well.

I think you misread that. It's based on full versions bought that are played. I.E. Demos don't count. That's why he makes that statement so people don't think a game is at the top because of it being demoed so much.

I'm not sure how that can be misread. He clearly states (twice!) that the XBLA list is based on full versions purchased that week.

Edit: also check out this list from a few weeks ago:

First and last time Hexic HD and Aegis Wings have been on the list, probably because Major Nelson messed up the list (activity instead of purchased). It also had UNO higher than normal, as well as Geo Wars and Texas Hold'em on the list.

Pac-man CE or Catan?
I would buy Carcasonne over them both. But out of the two, I would go with Pac Man.

I just watched some more Poker Smash videos and now I need that game like a drug. It might have enough clout to knock out Lumines and Puzzle Fighter for the puzzler title.

Maybe you could add a system which shows the difference of the new people with XBLA games from week to week? Just checking the amount of people from last week, to the amount this week?

Bastardizing a famous quote: "Pacman CE is a lake in which a gnat may sip and an elephant may bathe"

Pacman CE has some surprising depth.

I say Catan if you like board games, it's one of the best I've ever played. It's got tons of strategy and depth and ways to win that I actually went out and got the real board game and got my friends playing. Pac Man CE is pretty good and they should have done this years ago with it but it's still the same game you've played before. I'll probably pick it up eventually but it's hard to spend $10 on it where as Catan was worth it without question.

I love Catan but playing against the AI is either a joke or magazine rack pushing frustration. If you play it on Easy, the computer AI is a complete pushover. They'll agree to retarded trade after retarded trade. "Oh really? You'll give me 3 ores for 1 wool? Thanks Abraham Lincoln you fucking cocksmoker! No wonder you were assassinated." On Hard the game has this annoying tendancy with falling back on rubberbanding AI. You get ahead and no wants to trade with you and worse everyone is rolling 7s taking away all your cards. You just sit there in limbo while everyone rapes you.

I just play with friends or some ranked, but that shit's cutthroat. Still I've had more good games than bad and it's a great game to just kick back and play.

Until I try out E4, I'd say Pac-Man CE is the best XBLA game to release this summer. Well, maybe tied with Bomberman Live. But it's definitely up there.
