But OFLC has rated ASSAULT HEROES 2
Nice. AH was fun, but I'm concerned since Minigolf and Arkadian sucked ass. Here's to hoping AH2 is good and that the first one wasn't just a fluke.

With a little more practice I should be able to do mission 5 without dying too, its those bastard vertical scrolling parts that get me every time.
What. You have trouble with the vert parts, but not the brainbot/alien/clone/zombieclone corridors? That sounds so backwards to me. :o

Ya its weird. I have all the patterns for the side scrolling parts down perfectly. Sometimes the zombies can give me trouble if I'm not paying attention but I'm confident I could do it without dying. The asteroids can be a problem if I miss the one that drops the laser. Believe it or not its usually the little ships with the red one in front that kills me. I dont remember their exact spawn patterns and usually they take me by surprise and kill me. Brainbots, clones and aliens are no problem for me. Should only take a little more practice regardless. I really dont like playing mission 5 since it takes SOOOO long so I may just not even bother with it. I can imagine myself doing the entire level and dying to a stupid mistake on the final boss. Controllers would be broken.

Looks like Rocketmen is in submission...

So this came up in my Feedreader:

KOTAKU: Rez HD Dated For US, Europe [Rez]22:00 1/7/2008, Luke Plunkett, q entertainment, rez, xbox 360, xbox live arcade, Kotaku
After months of breathless anticipation (on our part) and silence (on Q Entertainment's part), the Xbox Live Arcade port of Mizuguchi's classic shooter Rez finally has a pair of release dates. Americans will be seeing the game on January 8, while Europe's long and proud tradition of pointless delays continues, with their release date being February 20. BONUS NEWS: an accompanying post on Sonic Team's blog says that classy Japanese T-shirt makers Beams will be releasing a ltd edition Rez tee. My thumbs are both up.
[Official Site, thanks Jonathan!]

and I was like:

Then I saw:

That's surely a bannable offense!

Did you have to bring the cats? Anyway, yea, that isn't how XBLA typically works, if it actually happens this week, well, we find out officially in a few hours.

No, it's the Rez PS2 site. Some idiot looked at thought it was the Rez HD site, and sent it to Kotaku.

And the cats were necessary.

Indeed, I saw that, but I knew it was fake when I saw Europe getting its own separate release date, that doesn't happen.

edit: Like everyone said in the other posts. Teaches me to get stuck on a phone conversation.

Those dates were for the original release of Rez back years ago.

Seems that Kotaku jumped the gun.

Yea, shit like this is what got them banned way back when.

I would've had a total meltdown if the dates had been right, though. I'd hate to see the Europe-screwing start on Live Arcade (no, some licensed crap doesn't count) too.

This week is Omega Five, right? Here's hoping for Rez next week - I'm getting my new Bravia by then, hopefully :)

Yes, Omega Five is coming this week, Hudson even had PR for it last week. There might be another game coming this week as well.

Aw, did Kotaku delete the newspost? I can't find it and I want to spread the link for epic lulz. :(

Makes me wonder. Why isn't there a blog dedicated to making fun of stupid gameblogs yet?

4 Wednesdays left this month

Omega 5 mentioned
Rez HD mentioned
Commando 3 mentioned (in the latest EGM)

The next few weeks will be awesome presuming we don't get any delays.

I'm more worried that wer're ALREADY seeing sequels to XBLA arcade games, classic games like Sonic and Sonic 2 or Pac Man / CE I can understand, but we've seen:

Mutant Storm Reloaded / Empire
Hexic HD / 2
Street Fighter II / HD
Feeding Frenzy / 2
Frogger / 2
Tron / Discs of

I like Ninjabee's idea of trying out all kinds of different development.

oh no i really can't wait to get my 360 back!!!

I should mention that we have actually, ya know, not seen Tron and Discs of Tron yet, both of them seemed to have fallen into the void.

Even weirder is that I played seemingly releasable versions of both games back in...april? Something like that.

Capcom is releasing Commando 3 AND Rocketmen. If they're released too close to each other they'll canibalize their own sales :\

Lords know I would if I had the time. But for now, we should try to get Kotaku banned again over here (they deserve it after this and the SF IV mishap).

I personally think that Disney is holding back the Tron games until they can get Tron the movie onto the XBLM.

Found on Xbox.com, the Omega Five Splash Page.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/o/omegafivexboxlivearcade/

Omega Five is a true next-gen, high-definition shooter, with the most awe-inspiring graphics around. Fly through dangerous 3-D environments in this side-scroller as enemies come at you from all sides, even the background. Grab an extra controller, choose your merc, and engage in two-player local co-op play for more action.

* Unbelievable visuals: This side-scrolling shooter is set in a gorgeous 3-D environment.
* Challenging gameplay: If you're a hardcore player, try your hand at the ultra-challenging ++ Mode, where you're only allowed one hit!
* Local co-op: Grab an extra controller and demolish enemies with a friend by your side.
* Dangerous environments: Enemies come at you from all sides, even from the background.
* Merc variety: Fight as Ruby, Tempest, or other characters, each of whom has three unique main weapons and special attacks.
* Unlockable extras: Discover new characters, game modes, and options.
* Intuitive controls: The modern control scheme uses the right analog stick to aim and fire.

Does anyone think either of these broken XBLA games will get fixed anytime soon?

Super Puzzle Fighter II: HD Remix (well, not technically broken, but I'm sick of seeing blurry characters in the middle of a pristine HD playfield).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - played 4 player co-op (local) with some friends and one of them got locked out of the game (said "insert coins" instead of "press Start" and none of the buttons allowed him to re-enter the game) yet he managed to get a load of achievements that he shouldn't have, as if he was still playing (don't get hit by freeze trap, etc) despite not playing entire levels. Pissed the rest of us off no end as he was reaping the benefits of our confused button mashing!

I'm sure there's plenty more broken ones, but these stick out the most to me. Do fixes like these get anounced, or do they just happen? Can't say I remember ever downloading a patch for an XBLA game.

Also, how come I only found out today by accident that if my GF wants to play any of the XBLA games I have that are DRM gimped all that needs to happen is for her to sign in as me, turn on her controller as player 2 and sign in with her tag and then simply play single player using her (player2) controller instead of my (player 1) one?

This shit needs to be written down somewhere! She wanted to play "Paperboy", and was still signed in as player 2 and just started like normal before she realised she was playing with her own tag.

Hopefully not, as Rocketmen sucks balls and Commando 3 at least has a chance of being good.

About Rez: this belgian 360 blog just posted the same Rez thing Kotaku did. I asked them if they got this from said site and the poster said 'no, I got the message from Sonic Team'. Seperate release dates included.

Right, right, sure, of course, we believe them.

Sonic Team have nothing to do with Rez HD.

Yeah that's what I thought and he linked me to the official site of years ago, posted in this thread, which mentions nothing of a xbla release.

Oh man, AH2 would be the shit! If it's, yeah, you know, just as good...

Indeed, this could get headache inducing.

Why? I think it's pretty clear-cut. Kotaku are dumb, the release dates are old and the belgian guy is fibbing.

I am worried about more dumb people picking up on the inaccurate release dates.

Tron + Omega Five

CES 2008: Lode Runner coming to XBLA

In an early morning meeting with Microsoft, we got a sneak peak of a title that's been a long-time coming to Xbox Live Arcade. Some of you may remember our nearly year-and-a-half old interview with former Xbox Live Arcade Portfolio Manager Ross Erickson, who professed Lode Runner to be his "favorite game of all time" and, it seemed like a natural conclusion that he would be working on bringing that title to the service. Though Erickson's moved on, the proto-platformer is finally making its way to XBLA.

Totally updated for XBLA by developer Tozai (purportedly the original developer and license holder), the version showed off was apparently "incredibly early." Nevertheless, the 3D graphics were sharp and the original Lode Runner gameplay is so immediately infectious it bleeds through every layer of paint thrown on it. But it's not all original gameplay, as the developer is adding in several multiplayer modes like "Hang-On," which supports four players, and "Journey," which supports two.

One of our favorite touches was the history timeline of the game, which aims to educate gamers on Lode Runner's long history and role in the history of video games. A very classy touch, and one we'd love to see more of in our games, along with the original game variant while they're at it. Understandably, there's no word on price or release, but we were told "2008" was a good estimate.

But that's still not the biggest question we've got. No, what we really want to know is whether or not the XBLA version will share the series' iconic level editor functionality. The answer was that while nothing has been announced, the developer is obviously aware of the game's history. Is it too much to hope that we'd be allowed to share user-created levels, perhaps enjoying a LittleBigPlanet-esque community angle? We hope not.
