For Monopoly or scrabble to work (or any board game for that matter) I think you should be able to play by mail or, like scrabulous on facebook, be able to access the game in a frozen state through the dashboard (that was a crap description but I think you know what I mean).

That would also open the game up to silver live users as they wouldn't need online play. I suspect that board games may have been struggling as their target market are less likely to be gold subscribers.

Or have I got it wrong & can you already do that with Catan & Carcassone?

Also, it would be good if, as the owner of the game, you got a limited number of challenges to other players . I.e. you could have 5 full games with somebody who only had the demo. Would do a lot to encourage the uptake of a title.

Well, Sierra seems to be fine with publishing gamer icons and themes in Japan but not the games themselves, so I think they deserve a clip around the ear for one of these acts at least.
 
I was looking over unseen64 earlier on beta and proto game stuff and noticed that there was going to be a flashback game on the gba, I use to play flashback so much when the Megadrive was my main console and would rent the game so much but never own it, probably would have been cheaper on my parents to just buy it :lol

Anyway, it made me think how awesome a HD version of Flashback would be even if it was just the rom with overlaying vectors or something.

I had fun with it too (never played Metal Slug 3 before), but the lag is awful in co-op and the slowdown is pretty extreme. There were much less framerate drops on the Xbox and even on the PS2 for crying out loud.

The Gripshift Turbo Boost Expansion Pack (quite a mouthful) includes:

- 8 new race tracks
- 8 new Death Match arena's
- Multiplayer Reverse Tag
- 3 wacky mini-games (Penguin Bowling, Snaker, Playground)
- 18 different music tracks

That's a damn good DLC pack for an XBLA game if you ask me, especially due to its relatively low price.

Holy shit. I just downloaded the Rez:HD demo. I've read tons of hype about this game on gaf. I figured lets see whats up. I had zero expectations.

< 1:00 minute my thoughts were
"oh cool when you shoot it makes music"

Honestly this is the first time I've been completely out of sync with the major opinion of Gaf of titles. I've seen Rez praise in almost every topic I've looked in over the last few days and its truly something that's probably going to keep me up tonight wonder what the infatuation is. :/

You can't look at it as a game, but more of an experience (though the score attack modes and trying to figure out the best way to defeat bosses are gamey if thats what you're into). Turn on the rumble as Rlan suggested, and remember that the game goes from cool trippy experimental game to an ungodly experience around the time you hit the 4th boss.

Not so much port, but it's missing a lot of things that would have made it a lot more friendly to the XBLA - like the ability to choose your missions, time attacks / score attacks etc. You can't do any of that - you play from start to finish, just like the Arcade game, and not like the Xbox 1 ports.

Rez can be underwhelming on a smaller TV with an average sound system. If thats what you have, then I can see where you might be coming from.

When I first played it, it was on the projector at work with full surround and large base. When I got it home to my crappy TV and audio setup, I was disappointed (despite it being in my top 3 games of all time by that point).

In any case, next time you play crank the volume as the above advice suggests. And maybe turn down the lights too. Hopefully that helps.

Not enough gameplay sounds more plausible.

Artistic games such as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus had good gameplay in addition to the impressive presentation. But Rez relies 100% on the synesthesia concept, and players who want good fun gameplay with depth won't find much of interest.
 
I've got to say, Ico did absolutely nothing for me (OK, it was pretty and I thought, "Hey this is pretty!"), but I think Rez is really good.

Like all "experience" games, you have to be in a darkened room with the sound way up on a good system or headphones. You can't have any distractions. If you still don't dig it after trying it this way, then it's obviously not for you.

Yes, Rez was a great experience, but at its core it's just Panzer Dragoon with synasthaesia. His opinion is on par with someone playing a decent game hyped to be a mindblowing spiritual revival.

Area 1 is pretty good and gives a very good feeling for the game. If you don't like that, area 5 won't change you're opinion. There will always be someone who doesn't like a popular game, there's nothing surprising about that.

I've tried a little bit of Rez, and it seems like there's depth to the scoring. It would have as much "gameplay" as Pac Man...but I think if people like that gameplay, they'll love it and try to get higher scores.

I understand the argument for experience games...Fl0w is another good example. But from my short playtime with Rez, it looked more like a PacMan sort of gaming experience to me.

Oh ok. I'm not a fan of those experience types of games, tbh. Unless there are some random elements making it different each time, short experience games aren't something I buy.
 
Should I get the XBLA release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2? I'd really like to play it with the Wii's classic controller, but I don't feel like it's worth paying $3 more. >_> Either way, I don't have any Wii points right now...

There's nothing terribly wrong with the port/emulation, if that's what you mean. I'm sure some fanatic can say that the sound is 0.32% off and that one color in the background of level 7 is wrong, but for someone who hasn't played it in 10 years I thought it was absolutely fine.
