The deal between Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) and Cotto does not come as a surprise. With a much-anticipated fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao off the table at least until the fall, Mayweather-Cotto is widely considered the next biggest fight he could take. Junior middleweight titlist Saul "Canelo" Alvarez was also considered a leading candidate to face Mayweather.

Mayweather-Cotto also means that Pacquiao, who intends to fight June 9, will not be facing Cotto in a rematch. Pacquiao-Cotto II was one of the potential fights Pacquiao and his promoter, Bob Arum, had discussed. The leading candidate to face Pacquiao in June is junior welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr.

I'm from PR so I'm rooting for Cotto.

EDIT: Can a mod please correct the thread tittle? Or people can assume it's written in Spanish ;)

I'm from PR also, and even though almost everyone has Money destroying Cotto, I will risk a cool Benjamin or two just in case there is a surprise! :D

LOL stole the match right away from Pacquaio. Supposedly Pacman-Cotto was a lock two weeks ago, so I guess Mayweather made this to spite him.

Either way, don't give a much of a fuck. I'll watch it because it's boxing and can root against Mayweather before he goes to jail, but it's nothing exciting. At this point I hope Mayweather and Pacman both just retire and go away. Both are all about protecting their legacy and don't have the fire to go after the big fight. Hopefully Marquez gets his 4th shot at Pacquaio and gets some fair judges the next time.

These guys are just recycling the same opponents back and forth for guaranteed paydays. Tired of their glorified exhibitions. Championships in boxing are sadly becoming as irrelavent as the sport itself.

I don't even think Mayweather has had an "official" title in forever. And I think the Ring magazine title, which is the only one anything close to being respected, is vacant.

It's sad how that's the case. It's basically just a
circus show at this point. Can you imagine how fucked any other sport would be if the undisputed 2 best teams or players just refused to play each other for 3 years? That explains why mainstream boxing is dead.

People put up with it because there's literally only 2 to 4 big fights of the year because everyone only cares about Mayweather or Pacquaio. As bad as it is now, as they keep getting old and getting close to retirement, there may not be a fight left that would even be worthy of a PPV.

Maybe even worse is the style of boxing nowadays, there's literally very few KO's. That's why MMA is kicking it's ass. You have paper tigers like David Haye and Chad Dawson that look like they should be able to punch a hole in a brick wall, and then you see them fight and it's nothing.

Can't wait.

This could be very interesting if Mayweather decides to get a bit aggressive. Pac already crushed Cotto, so Mayweather needs to at least score some sort of KO match.

Yeah, boxing has taken a nose dive in quality IMO. Even heavy/middle weights which were high on demand and quality a few years ago.

No he doesn't. Why? He gets his $30 million regardless.

Plus it was in 2009. No one cares about that now, no one cares about Cotto anymore, and no one cares about this fight.

If Mayweather-Pacquaio aren't going to fight, I would like to see Mayweather move way up in weight and fight underweight against Hopkins fighting at a lower weight. I wonder if an underweight Mayweather could beat a 47 year old man heavier than him.

I hope I'm wrong but I think pacquiao is done. his last fight looked like he had slower hand speed and none of the aggression he had in his previous fights. he was a great champion but i wouldn't wanna see him in the ring again if he's anything like his last fight.

before Marquez 3, i would have given Pac a chance against mayweather due to sheer volume of punches.

that said, I also believe mayweather was ducking prime pacquiao. mayweather is doing what everyone said he would do, wait til Pac got old and slowed down. that's exactly what happened.

only watch mayweather fights when i think his opponent might have a slight chance of beating him. not watching because cotto is pretty much a shot fighter and will get demolished.

Why is Mayweather getting such a huge payday for this fight? It's the largest payday ever, with Tyson/Holyfield second. He's getting like 40 million guaranteed plus a cut of buys and merchandise. Supposedly when it's over he will clear close to 100 million.

Because everybody wants to see the fight because it's Mayweather....so Mayweather is smart enough to make sure he get's a big cut of everything.

If it was Cotto vs Garcia most people would be like "Who?"

Exactly... the best damn heel in sports entertainment today. Just look in this thread, everyone's checking for it, just for the slight possibility that Cotto does something.

I want Cotto and Moseley to win, i have a feeling that Floyd and Alvarez will win. I got confused for a minute,i haven't seen him refered to as Canelo before, it's always Saul Alvarez in the UK.

WTF is no one on GAF ever watching boxing? Geez.

There are only two boxers the general public cares about. Mayweather is the one people want to see get knocked out so he milks his fights for all they're worth.

I'm watching the fight over here fyi, just tipsy with a cute gurl next to me hoping to making her my future wifey tonite.

Viva Puerto Rico!!!

Go Avalarez! I don't know you though.

Is this Mosley's last fight?

Like most, hoping Mayweather finally gets humbled.

Its weird i've been seeing a lot of these comments today.

Worst offender was "Boxing is Dead. MMA Killed it."
