Marvin the Martian in the Third Dimension? That's the 3-D cartoon that was shown at the Warner Bros. stores and was never released in any other form!

Just preordered. I heard of this coming on Blu-ray. Had NO IDEA they were making such an awesome collector's set. Great lineup of shorts too. So glad I waited before taking the plunge on owning Looney Toons.

So who picked this up? Mine came in today! $49.99 from amazon is a great deal.

They are selling disc 1 of the set by itself in January for $19.

Did the price go down? It says $38 on Amazon now.

I think that's the non Collector's.

Got mine yesterday. Pretty nice. Plan on sitting down and really enjoying the nostalgia rush.

There are two versions of the Platinum Collection set, an Ultimate Collector's Edition (currently fifty bucks on Amazon) and the regular edition (currently just shy of forty bucks on Amazon). I didn't realize there was a distinction until the super fanboy edition arrived on my doorstep and I spent a while being perplexed by the extra crap it came with. Specifically, the set comes in a huge box and includes a small faux-animation cel that I didn't find to be very interesting, a certificate of authenticity for the non-authentic cel, a small tin Looney Tunes sign with magnets on the back that could go on the fridge or something, and a Bugs Bunny shot glass that takes up most of the rest of the box. The shot glas is cute but not really worth the trade-off for the massive custom packaging included. I suppose it's worth the extra ten bucks, but had I realized there was a bare-bones edition with just the discs and a booklet available, I would have gone with that.

Of course, the important thing is what's on the discs themselves, and I'm hoping to have a chance to kick back and watch some HD Toons this weekend.

Still bummed that this is Blu-Ray only.

Isn't most of the content available on the Golden Collection releases?

Oops, my bad.

You're better off with Golden Collection anyway. This release has less shorts (Golden vol. 1 had 56, vol. 2 had nearly 60), which is pretty aggravating considering the larger format. The restoration isn't nearly as dramatic as the jump from VHS to DVD was, anyway.

Unless it's the extras you're after, I guess.

It's not? That's a tad disappointing. It was the quality jump and the addition of a few shorts not available on any of the Golden Collections that had me interested.

Don't get me wrong, they look nice, but Golden knocked my socks off.

I should note my tv is 720p so YMMV...I've seen a couple in 1080p, they look really good, but the transition isn't half as dramatic as that first restoration was.
