Oh yeah! A best of Capcom compilation!

For those who don't read EGM, the rumor mill has it that Capcom is going to release a compilation disc in the vain of Midway and Namco. Hopefully they release a disc with classic arcade games from the late 80's or early 90's and not a bunch of fossils like Konami did.

What games do you guys think should be on it?

Apparently it's a LOT of games, so I'd expect pretty much everything you can think of to be on it unless licensing or milking issues get in the way.

Frinstance, didn't they do a licensed D&D game? I'd expect that not to be on there. Nor the Mega Man arcade games, as those are already being sold. Nor the Street Fighter games, same reason.

Magic Sword
Forgotten Worlds
Final Fight
Saturday Night Slam Masters
Bionic Commando
19XX
UN Squadron
Knights of The Round
Mercs
Alien vs. Predator

They can make a separate fighting collection like they have a SF and Mega Man collection already.

Give me Alien VS Predator please.

want that badly, but probably won't happen due to licensing issues, same with AD&D, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs

also want Final Fight and Dynasty Wars

Am I not here? Even if they still have the rights to release this game -- which they very well may not -- they probably wouldn't want to pay the royalties to the owners of the characters. Especially since this is a budget title.

Anything can happen, but I'd give up on the dream now.

someone find out what arcade games capcom made prior to CPS2 that aren't liscensed, I think that'll be whats on your package. CPS1 arcade games , a bunch of 1942 games and the original final fight perhaps.

I see that Nuby is releasing Megaman X controllers for PS2 and Gamecube. Should we expect a Megaman X Collections game to ship along side them?

Were captain commando and cadillacs & dinosaurs capcom games? If so, I'd like to see those. Also, there was this cool king arthur game where you could play arthur, lancelot and this other dude.. who was it by? damn, my coinop-fu has really degraded..

I'd like to see Final Fight 2 and 3 included in some package or another. They're not especially amazing, but they sure as hell are rare, especially 3 (which costs more than Rondo of Blood in Japan).

And speaking of which, dear Capcom: it's 2005, and it is now okay to show depictions of teenage girls in their bras and cartoon trannies being beaten up -- I understand that in 1991 you had to take them out of the SNES version (notwithstanding the fact that it was far more likely that a child would have 25 cents to play the arcade game than have $59.99 for the home version), but putting Billy and Sid into Final Fight One on GBA was fucking retarded and whoever thought it would be a good idea should be locked in a room and forced to watch the US cinemas for Mega Man 8 over and over because that was probably his idea too.

Knights of the Round?

They're all by Capcom, but so very boring in this day and age. (Yes, I've tried and tried.)

Two, Shadow Over Mystara and Tower of Doom. I would KILL to get a hold of those. I must have dumped hundreds of dollars worth of quarters into that game over the years.

Used to play it all the time between class breaks in college, but they removed the machine so they could put in one of those touch-screen trivia games. :(

I kinda liked Knights of the Round. Couldn't you raise the level of your character also?

Of course, what I really want is a Sega compilation of mid 90's games that never made it home...like Golden Axe 2 (arcade version), a REAL port of Daytona, and it wouldn't kill them to release that airliner flight sim either.

The Modded Xbox is your friend.
"The existence of pirated copies is not a valid argument against legal releases" (Kohler, 200X).

Plus, if the collection is anything like the ones currently on the shelf, we can probably look forward to bonus content.

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs I can maybe see happening, since Xenozoic Tales hasn't been revisted in ages. D&D and AVP, however, probably won't

this could be amazing. i thought those capcom generations comps dwelled excessively on old, obscure stuff. a lot of their best stuff has already been accurately ported to saturn or psx -- tenchi wo kurau II, strider, ghouls n' ghosts, mercs -- but there's still plenty i want to see.

19xx would be great, yeah. varth would be cool too. never been that fond of un squadron or carrier arwing, but hey. accurate version of forgotten worlds. any of those classic arcade beatemups that could slip through licensing hassles -- i guess captain comando, battle circuit, knights of the round (which i've never really liked), and king of the dragons. black tiger and magic sword HAVE to be in there. saturday night slam masters. oh, and i've never played warzard/red earth.

i shouldn't get my hopes up, though. they might just collate the capcom generations discs. sega really needs to do an arcade compilation too. and no, the sega ages remakes are not an adequate substitute.

If it's an outside license I doubt it. No matter how old, unless it's in the public domain or Capcom owns it, I don't see where they'd put it on the disc if it entails paying a slice of the pie to an outside entity.

Some reviewer or another, who probably posts here so I'll tread lightly with my language, took Atari Anthology to task because it didn't include Pac-Man, ET, or Raiders of the Lost Ark. There's a very compelling reason for that.

I'd like to see:

Ghosts'n Goblins
Ghouls'n Ghosts
1943 or 1943 Kai, 1941
Side Arms
Legendary Wings
Final Fight
Strider
Warriors of Fate

And if they're considering non-arcade games: Final Fight 3 and Super Ghouls'n Ghosts.

i've only played varth in the arcades years and years ago. i remember really liking it, though. i should give it a run in an emulator. it has tons and tons of stages, doesn't it?

Yeah. I credit-fed my way through about 45 minutes of them before my shooting thumb got sore and I gave up. It's not bad or anything, though, just... soooo looooong.

So they should release "classics," but not "fossils"? What's the difference - you're old enough to remember the classics but not the fossils? I, for one, am really hoping they bust out a lot of their truly classic early-mid 80s games. All the button-jamming beat-em-ups from the early 90s are fine for a run-through, but games like Gunsmoke, Forgotten Worlds and Ghosts n Goblins require some serious skillz, the way all the best arcade games did.

Oh, and hopefully they don't do any sort of "you-only-get-three-credits" bullshit. You don't only get three credits in the arcade, you get as many continues as you have quarters. I guess if the game is just about getting a high score, they can limit your play time. But for Final Fight, unlimited continues or no sale.

Doesn't it just keep looping? Is there an actual end to it? It seemed to me that after an hour or so I started seeing the same stages over and over again. Of course it could've just been that I was going insane, which I wouldn't doubt.

Oh, I'm old enough to remember the old games, and the really old games. What I'm saying is that I'd have preferred Konami give us games like TMNT2 and Jackal instead of Frogger.

I want:

*Forgotten Worlds - never ported perfectly to console
*Ghouls N Ghosts ported near perfectly to Saturn PS1 and X68000, only in Japan
*UN Squadran - never ported perfectly
*Carrier Air Wing - sequal to UN Squadran never brought home at all
*Willow - never brought home at all, iirc, but if it was it probably wasnt perfect.
*Final Fight - never ported perfectly. closest version was on X68000
*Aliens vs Predator - never brought home
*Magic Sword - never ported perfectly
*Knights of the Round - never ported perfectly
*Warriors of Fate - never brought home at all ?

How could the any version of Final Fight be more accurate than the Sega-CD version and not be arcade perfect? Aside from the music, I thought it was spot on.

warriors of fate was released on playstation in japan as "tenchi wo kurau II." perfect port, as far as i know.

i think the classics vs. fossils distinction is meaningful. and it's not purely a question of age. what irritated me about the capcom generations comps was the presence of fusty curios like son son, vulgus, and exed eyes when dozens of genuinely great games were left unported. i don't think anyone would complain about gunsmoke or ghosts n' goblins, except in that they're already available.

I want:

- Graphics running in proper low-res modes (ie, with scanlines) so everything doesn't look like blurry bilinear-filtered smeary shit as in every (?) other PS2 / GCN / Xbox retro compilation released so far THAT'S ALL I ASK

So basically odds are I will be disappointed and not care about this collection. -_-; I'd be thrilled to be wrong here, though. Unlikely as that may be.

I don't really give a FUCK if they're early 80s or late 80s games. I'll take a compilation of ANY 20+ Capcom games.
