I think the reviewer messed up his alphabetic letters. From the rumors that I've heard the score is supposed to be a D- instead of an A- but the issue went to print before it could be changed.

No, Jak got an A.
Notice how the "-" is not immediately after the A, there is a space between the A and the -. The A- scores don't have a space.

It was put there for the quote.

The thing is, Play is the best LOOKING magazine on newsstands. It's even more readable than just about any other because the text is nicely laid out, spaced well and often is black on a white background. The screenshots are usually gorgeous.

So as long as they continue to have the best looking mag around, I'll probably keep on buying it. The previews and feature articles are usually good stuff too. They at least gave Killzone what it seems to deserve.

That sums up my feelings on Play nicely. Great mag to look at and some good interviews. I usually just ignore the reviews. ::shudders::

Well, if you prefer FPS over action/platforme, your game of the month will probably be Halo2. An award like this is very subjective.
If i try to look at things the more concrete as possible, i think Jak3 have less weak sides than Halo2. Halo2 is OMGWTF great in it's multiplayer mode but it lack a bit in the single campain. Jak3 does not suck anywhere in what it does. I also think that based on each of their respective hardware, Jak3 looks more impressive than Halo2 too.
I hope you see it's not easy to exactly say "this is the best game of this month" and being totally objective. I can understand those guys choice, i think their opinion is valid there.

You should know that even game industry PR people - who pray for good reviews - consider Halverson's reviews a joke.

That's funny cuz it sure doesn't stop them from quoting Play Magazine in their game's print ads and even on the boxart. Joke or not, PR will always use the praises their company's games garner to help potential sales.

In a nutshell: Who cares what PR thinks.
