Ok Rare possibly just dethroned Team Ninja- Conker Rocks!

I finally got my hands on Conker and took a break from the forums to spend some quality time with the game, and WOW. I am just floored. I knew some of you said it looked good, but I never thought I would say it looks better than Ninja Gaiden or even DOA. This game is so damn pretty. Everything is so silky smooth I swear it looks damn near CG-quality. No AA issues at all so far. All the environments are highly detailed and really lush it just makes you drool the whole time you're playing it. Now I have seen the game on my friend's HD TV and it looked excellent, but honestly, I think this game looks better on my regular old analog TV as some of the textures looked a little jarrying on his TV and are no longer noticeable on mine.

I've never played Conker on the 64 since I had at that time already sold it, and I must say, to me this game is quite refreshing. It's got this upbeat tempo to it that really doesn't let you want to stop playing it. And funny as hell sometimes. I love how the german scientist figured out that the only solution to the broken leg on the table was to stick a squirrel in there :lol Genius!

I only have 2 gripes with this game. That's all. One....the camera, especially when looking through his eyes needs to be more responsive and pan over the environment faster. And two, the falling.....it's waaaay too sensitive. Falling off just a little edge takes 2 bars of life and falling of something higher instantly kills you. This keeps me from just wanting to go hoping and jumping around the environment and wanting it to explore shortcuts because I am afraid of losing life. Other than that it's a blast.

Overall I give it a 9/10 but I have not yet tried it online. So for those of you that are like me and have not played the N64 version, deffinitely go out and grab this. It belongs in your Xbox collection.

But I guess the most amazing thing is that Rare managed to pull this off with a port of an N64 game. I wonder what they could have done had they made it from the ground up for the Xbox. I hope a lot of people pick up this game. I'd love to see a sequel built from the ground up and I can't even begin to imagine what these guys could pull off on the 360.

Peace. I gotta get back to playing it. LOL Conker is asking me if I'm dead. :lol

I couldn't tell you I have not beat it yet. But I will let you know. Although if you used the word "still" I assume you played the original and this is pretty much a straight port. So yeah I imagine the single player is not going to be any longer than the 64 version.

I've been playing it for a couple of days now and was enjoying it initially. But then, when you get about half way through and go through about ten lives due to a combination of: sluggish controls, awful camera problems, clipping and just plain bad design, it just reminds you that Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rare. And I'm a Rare supporter!

Only thing i dislike about conker single player is the fall damage, sooo many cheap deaths. Everything else is great.

Good game for sure. It's not perfect, but I love it. Easily one of my favorite plays this gen. I didn't play the N64 version, so this is a real treat.

Hehe, I need to get some sleep. But I'm having a hard time putting it down. The Xbox desperatelly needed a true tradional platformer like this. Too bad it came out so late in its life time. Hopefully that won't be the case with the 360 and we'll get a proper sequel.

Too bad Rare didn't put their resources TOWARD a sequel in the first place, instead of making a four year old game again.

But from what I remember of Conker, it was a hell of an experience. For those who have played both (N64 and XBox): are there any changes in story and/or puzzles?

Conker? A very good OLD game for N64. Rare, are you still able to do such a game?

I've been playing Conker on N64, and I must say I don't like it for these reasons:

-Hard to know what you're supposed to do. Sometimes they propose you with one thing but then you really need to do something else first. This would normally be ok, but it's so easy to die you don't want to experiment very much.
-Fall damage hurts too much
-Too easy to slip off edges of things, funky jumping when near objects.
-Camera keeps conker in the middle of the screen rather than giving a good and stable angle, leads to problems when trying to swim, jump on floating ropes or avoid blades. Let me control my own &@#%ing camera.
-Bad framerate with bad camera is gives me a headache.

No, not really. There are some brief moments especially in the beginning where they purposely bring your attention to the whole "port" idea. Most of my shock just comes from the image clarity compared to the original. It looks really, really nice. I like using the S controller a lot more as well. I'd say buy if you want to revisit the original (I still find it hilarious) but avoid if the experience is over for you.

Multiplayer on the other hand, I don't really get. It seems too chaotic and unbalanced. And the hit feedback is just wrong with the guns to me. Too bad because the levels and of course humor are great.

I basically wanted an homage to the original, cleaned up and more accessible and it meets those goals well.

What's so funny about those parts you pointed out to be funny? :|

whats up with this?

I don´t get it at all.. really what the hell are you supposed to do?

I have never seen a more chaotic game

totally confusing.. blasts and effects all over the place.. and the guns feel like peashooters

oh and the lack of autoaim makes it almost impossible to snipe with the pad

I have to agree... on your points. I like the game but i've been playing with IGN's guide cause i had absolutely no clue what to do after leaving the poo mines. Experimenting in the game is a no no cause it's way too easy to die. I hate that they kept the "mario 64 reactions" in the game... like when you fall in lava you pop back up and start sliding around uncontrollably... most of the time you slide right back in the lava... and in fucked up situations like fighting the giant caveman you hop back on the land... still sliding around... only to be knocked back in the lava by him... you never get a chance to gain control.

I hate how they fecked up the frying pan/baseball bat controlls. WTF. And the changes during the training level were laughably bad - the conker VA who had to redo the dialogue for the changes was really off, and not funny.

Does he still bust out a Gameboy and start playing it if you leave him idle long enough? I imagine not, huh? G-d I hate this game.

No, he pulls out a game thing, but I don't think it's a Game Boy (it was actually an SP in earlier screens, but I guess they had to take it out).

yea... i rarely do that three hit bat combo... i hit and run most of the time... assigning the bat controls to the R trigger is a mistake... they should haveit assigned to Y or something

and the tank has the worst controls ever... what the fuck was rare thinking with that!

it's hardly controllable... and you have to move through the worst and narrow terrain w/ tediz throwing bombs at you. (i find it odd that a gigantic turret can't hurt you but splash damage from a small grenade will take off two chocolate pieces)

the game is alot more fun with a gun in your hands.... but once it's placed

conker + guns = fur fighters w/ swearing

all i seen him do is look at a porno mag and juggle.

Bat portion had by far my favorite music in the game.
i think most of us were talking about the Baseball bat (which is new in the xbox version).. heh, now i remember the bat portion.. don't remember the music though.

in graphics maybe. no way in hell would i play conker over ninja gaiden

conker: zzzzzzzzz

i'm glad i never played this on n64. just isnt fun

It'll be twenty dollars in a couple of months. It's just a remake. A beautiful remake, but then again it has been YEARS in the making..

My pick: Rock Solid - best techno ever.

The remix that follows the song is HURTING and WTF happened to the strobelight that would flash like crazy when the music picked up in the N64 version?!?!?!

IGN put up this screenshot showing him with a Game Boy Advance SP last August, but in the final game, it's been replaced with a generic looking handheld device.

Yea, but as stated it's some generic handheld system. But it's black!(que Xboy hint). Also, its playing music from the Killer Instinct soundtrack but the characters themselves sound like Street Fighter people if they were turned into Tediz.

It's not because of a lack of auto aim, it's the fact that the characters are too small coupled with the actual aim being extremely sluggish. I do agree with you about the weapons feeling weak though, but a snipe to the head or a rocket to the chest says otherwise.

You should probably play with bots offline first, or at least watch the level intro/briefs. They explain what the goals are for each side.

The thing is that the multiplayer is really really deep. There are so many options and subtleties that it's amazing when you really get into it. But things like crappy control, weak feeling to the weapons and annoying as hell character names etc will definitely be its downfall. I just don't see it having the staying power as some of the other big Live games.

Spooky is my new favourite part of the game, looks amazing, plays much better than i remember too.

Its the first time i've played this game. It kicks most platformers i've played this gen.

Its just so different, i love the way the game is more about objective based gameplay rather than the usual collectathon BS we're used to.

Rare have come up with a winner, such a fantastic game. The characters are full of charm, absolutley adore the art style.

Multiplayer seem real deep, im gonna have to out some real time into it.

I played it back on the Nintendo 64 but began playing Reloaded the other day. I've died more than a few times to crappy control, specifically when I fall into lava or get hit, I either bounce away into more lava and die or I get hit before I can get back up from the first hit.

Other than that and frustrating camera angles, I really enjoy this game.

Let me get this straight, Prine! You, of all people, think Conker "kicks most platformers [you've] played this gen"?

Not only am I shocked at this revelation, but I may have to buy a second copy of Conker to confirm just how startled I am!

We're not talking about the N64 version*, we're talking about the Xbox version. It's got smooth game play and very little in the way of camera issues.

Anyway, I'm loving Conker as much as I did on N64. Great game play, and no collectathon bullshit. ROCKS. Is anyone else finding the game easier on Xbox compared to the N64 version? I beat the N64 version quickly, but I feel like I'm flying through the Xbox version now; at the "war" scenario at the moment. I think it's easier due to the much smoother frame rate; really helped on the part where you have to
beat down the cavemen on the hoverboard.

*N64 version also rocked

Just rented the game for the multiplayer...what? It sucks. I quite enjoyed the multi on the N64, but this sucks. So damn confusing, you go for ages without seeing enemies, enemies are strong as hell, difficult to aim, hardly any maps and absolutely no organized team play. It took them 3 years to make this? Gah. Ill keep playing it to hopefully get the hang of the game, but initial impressions are very disappointing.

IGN said the game was easier, and that it was missing a few minor parts making the game a bit shorter.
