Okamoto hints other high-profile JPN developers working on Xbox2

Hehe. This thread only serves to remind me just how ridiculous people can be regarding anything positive said about MS' console efforts. E3 is only just over a month away. I do believe there will be lots of next-gen crow to be served up hot and fresh for the doubters and haters. I believe!

I find it hilarious that there's a current thread with over 800 posts, many of those posts from Nintendo fans whining and bitching that they're being treated unfairly and their human rights are being trampled and boo hoo blah blah. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING TRAINWRECK! It's an Xbox thread that's devolved into arguing about Nintendo and soundwave making the same goddamn point 15 times in a row! Yeah, you Nintendo fans really got it rough around here. :rollfuckin'eyes

Only Nintendo.....only Nintendo can do that. It's like that "Hate it or Love It, Im gonna be here until Mario stops" :D

I don't mind the XBox, and I think XBox 2 will do well. But I don't think it will touch the PS3, especailly in Japan. The people who are just assuming that because ... well, Sony's been dominant so long that they should maybe let someone else ride the merry-go-round for pity sake .... well its just that line of reasoning I don't agree with.

I think actually a lot of the XBot faithful on this board will jump ship if (well when) they see PS3 is considerably more powerful and a true HD console with the Blu-Ray format.

It's easier for Sony to pick Microsoft apart (make a stronger console, get some good FPS and really its probably curtains) than for Microsoft to pick Sony apart. I don't think that's an unreasonable analysis of where the companies are at going into the next generation.

While I'm an XBot (and proud of it, too), I'm picking them all up, as with every generation. That way I can be the happy gamer I always am. As for Sony, I'm not concerned about how they'll do...it's Nintendo that I'm interested in seeing in action. They've A LOT to improve upon...

More like they have a lot to live up to. They set the standard pretty high with this revolution talk. If there isn't anything revolutionary, they're fucked. I think they should've never started saying how rev will be different and just revealed the 'secret feature' at E3. Let the crowd decide if it's revolutionary.

The funny thing is that people like soundwave disparage Xbox's japanese support, when most of my gaming library is composed of Japanese/Asian games.

True.

Xbox 2 will be awesome in the start that's for sure.

I just want it still getting heavy Japanese support when PS3 arrives.

- 3 should make it for the japanese launch, one Sakaguchi RPG, the Okamoto game, and another that could be the Mizuguchi one (not sure about this particular one). Another surprise title, 2nd party, could also be ready for launch.
- The Sakaguchi title that should make it for launch (not the "serious one") is using most of the previous work (engine/tools) that had been done by team breakout (Magatama), I also heard an anime studio is also on the project (design or cinematics I don't know). The other one is using the brand new system that is worked on in parallel and already running in early prototype phase, and looks nothing short of stunning. 2007 release though...

What's your source for this? Sakaguchi pretty much stated in a Famitsu interview that neither game would be ready for launch, although he did say they might be out relatively soon afterward thanks to the preproduction work already done.

- The Okamoto game is an action title with an interesting story setting.
- All these high profile titles should be at E3 in some form.
- No information on the release of these games outside Japan yet. They will be released there first, so be prepared to get an import system if you want to play them as soon as possible.
Of course some of this stuff could change between now and launch.
Thanks for info, but when exactly is japanese launch, this year? next year? :)

Well, my sources sometimes mixes launch and launch window, but they are usually very reliable. You do not have to believe me of course, as I certainly don't pretend to have 100% exact information (for example I had been told the Halo 2 map pack was 6+2 maps). This is supposed to be exact as of February at least. I did not get lots of new informations since then.

btw...any info is Xbox 360 going to be region locked or not..? :)
It should not even be a question, of course it will. There was even a plan to create true country locks (eg can't play UK games on a french system), but I don't know if it's still being done or not.

ouch! I just thought since all three launches are so close each other Xbox360 could be region free...and maybe they could be trying simultaneous world-wide game launches too.

But thanks for the info. :)

hmm.. I've heard stories that it'd be region free.

Ho really? I believe you, but I sure read about country locking quite a few months ago. I did not ask about this to anyone, but I'll ask around now.

At least with the MGS series, that is not going to happen.

Region free = no.

If they do this, they are dumb. That would go against the business practices of many of the publishers out there who make some good money sublicensing rights to properties in regions that they are not directly active. And it doesn't help the big boys with grey imports - unless they are also requiring simultaneous release of software in the US and Europe.

Okomoto's words carry a lot of weight and it is *not* like him to uber-hype something and go out on a limb like he has...

But then he hasn't been running his own company before.

that would be cool - i guess one of my sources is Yellowace though! lol.

Most games on Xbox seem to be unofficially region free anyways... except for Winning Eleven , NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo (the online euro version that is)

only the version with the hard drive and the xbox360 pc will be backwards compatible. it'll also include halo 2.5 and the hard drive also doubles as a portable mp3 player.

What the shit is going on with the preemptive damage control in this thread?

You are GAMERS, those are GOOD NEWS, shut the fuck up and enjoy the revelations.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Konami bring a next-gen Winning Eleven to Xenon - non-exclusive of course, other than the 3-6 months before PS3 comes out. Certainly it's an extremely popular franchise in Japan, and Konami have already tested the water with Live (Pro Evo in Europe - where it sold reasonably well)

If MS are going to get a BIG Japanese franchise onboard for Xenon launch Window, Winning Eleven seems the best fit.

geeeeez people.......

I'm gonna buy an X360.
I'm gonna buy a PS3.
I'm gonna buy a Revolution.

Screw any fanboys and their 1 console close mindedness.

and you're also gonna get a bank loan :lol

I'll most assuredly end up doing the same, the second there's stuff I want for the system, (and have the cash to spend), I'll pick 'em up. Games from Sakaguchi and Mizuguchi on Xbox 2 already have me extremely interested for Xbox 2... But why am I getting a major Dreamcast vibe from this system? Like, I just have this feeling it'll come out with all these awesome games and new franchises, that don't really do too well in the market, and then die prematurely (eclipsed by more powerful systems).

If Japanese developers go the Microsoft Game Studio way then they can't port their games. Considering the total failure of xbox in Japan I would think the smarter move would be to develop for PS3 and Revolution. But as long as they get their money I suppose they dont care for sales.

It's a known fact that MS is trying VERY HARD to get the Winning Eleven franchise as an exclusive. It's an excellent way to create a big user base in Japan, and to get people on Xbox Live there. Of course I doubt Sony will let them do this easily :)

I think he was talking 'bout Resident Evil 5. This would be quite a shocker.

Magic 8-ball says:
PS3 gets FF13 while Xbox2 some FF : Spin Off. Of course Xbots will hail the spin-off as the best thing since FF7 and take massive dumps on FF13.

It's gonna happen.

soundwave05 I don't exactly know why, but you've definitely made my "Most Annoying Poster in a Thread" list. You have nothing useful to say, and you keep repeating it. If there was a Daily Retarded Post Limit, you'd have hit it long ago. Go to bed or lay off the crystal meth, you're giving me a fucking headache.

Every generation I follow the console that has Resident Evil as my primary system. If its RE5 my 360 puchase will be secured. FF is overated these days and Sony would never give up their beloved FF and DW series. MGS has already been on Xbox so that can't be the surprise. The only other huge eastern franchises belong to Nintendo so I'm curious as to what they're talking about.

This thread reminds me of a classic episode of Charles in Charge which had the popular teenage daughter dating a not so popular guy. She was afraid that her popularity would be tarnished by the match, but the ever-wise Charles pointed out the valid point that perhaps her dating him would likely raise his popularity up to her level rather than diminishing hers down to his level. No wonder Charles was in charge!

If it's Square it could make sense to support Xenon with the next gen version of Final Fantasy Online.
Square has already stated they don't want the FFXI community to be left in a retro world when next gen is a reality so an update of FFXI is quite sure.
XboxLive is an interesting way to expand Square's online userbase.Microsoft will have to let Square use its own Playonline service.
Of course since Sony has a financial stake in Square Enix thinking about exclusives of important titles for Xenon is really unlikely.

If they go totally Xbox 2 only, then they are cutting their throats IMO. But if they are wise they will simply use the funds to keep their cashflow positive and continue with parallel multiplatform development.

With the expected slight lead time over PS3, Konami could probably get a timed exclusive on Xbox 2, make some money off MS, and still have winning eleven out on PS3 a couple of months after launch.

thing is though, timed exclusivity doesn't seem to mean much in japan. Look at Gamecube's experiences with it. People just wait..

They will more than likely be trying for a full exclusive for WE. Not that it will happen, mind you. But I think timed exclusivity is not what they are trying for with it

Or, design their console differently than anyone has done in the past.

Previously a company makes a new console and goes to a developer with it and says "here it is, now make us some games"

From everything going around about the next generation Xbox, it sounds as if MS went to the major developers very early on and said "If you could custom design a console, what would it be like?"
So essentially the development community wanted a "Super GameCube". ;)

So how many bannings will happen next year? I have a feeling all that will be left is Drinky Crow and a few Xenosaga fans for him to pick on.

Yellowace is a stinkin' liar. He told me PS3 GPU would have 64MB of eDram and pixelshading only, and now look what's happening :D

Seriously though, I'll ask around too, this is the kind of thing I definately would like to know about too.

Given how popular Winning11 is in many other places outside Japan, I think Konami would do themselves and consumers a Big favour to keep it multiplatform.
But I'm sure EA would LOVE nothing better then to have their only real challenger in soccer constrained to a single platform, preferably one with smallest userbase in EAs weakest territory.
