This. Just a matter of personal preference, but you might also want to NOT be available so much in the beginning. I've killed potential relationships off by over-texting the girl...

Goes without saying, but try not to put to much pressure on yourself when you meet the girl the first time. Even if you feel like nothing's there, stay persistent and see if she just takes a while to warm up to people.

Anyone can put up a mask/front online, so it will inevitably be awkward the first time you meet them. Also, this is just personal preference.....hug her when you see her. It will be awkward, but it will help make her comfortable with you.

Nope, it was a temp, and I wish I could have updated earlier than I would have liked. A lot of people were spot on that it looked like I was hovering the thread - I actually left the phone on NeoGAF while I was more interested in just having a good time, so it looked like I was idling there. Bad move.

Never had a chance to meet or talk to you before, but I have heard about your epic story....anyways congrats and welcome back!

Thanks! I never set out to make an epic story. I just wanted a simple blog thread (essentially) about how my story to visit someone turned out. If it turned out bad, I was going to post it regardless. I just wanted to share, and apparently shared too much.

• I went to see her and had a great time.
• Revealing too much information and/or lurking on GAF without knowing it made D-GAF go nuts
• After the visit with her (which went amazingly), she came down to see me last month. We drove to our new destination with which she wants to get an apartment with.
• Just last week, I was flown up again to see her once more, which I proposed to her the day before my birthday (birthday being the 13th).
• She accepts, and now we are engaged.

Nah, it really depends on the person you're chatting with. Some peeps just love texting.

I honestly don't think I've seen either of these. Maybe the "real man" thing once.

One thing I've noticed (at least in my area) is that nearly EVERY girl loves to bake/cook. I am continuously surprised at how often I see it in profiles.

I'm just going with the flow really. I gave her my number early-ish last week so that we could get a date planned for the weekend, and since she is a caterer, her weekend was shot to hell, so instead of not talking until our schedules worked out, we've been texting a bunch. It has been really nice. I haven't instigated much of it, so I'm not being overly attached or anything.

That's an amazingly wonderful story. All the women I talk to on OKcupid all have serious anger or dependence or militant feminist or lame issues, so it's great to hear a happy ending once in a while.

Stay positive and like someone else said avoid being a negative nancy. Try to keep the conversation flowing as much as possible, let your humor out and hope she laughs, maintain eye contact as much as possible, etc.. Oh and one of the most important things is don't fret about getting a kiss on the first date. If you aren't absolutely positive you can get it then don't go in for it. A lack of a first kiss on a date doesn't mean anything. I didn't kiss the girl I'm dating right now from OKC until our second date and everything is going great.
