The lack of self awareness is staggering.

My favorite ones were when Patrice, Norton and Voss ripped into each other's comedy specials. They're still on YT. Funny as shit.

I watch O&A and co stuff on YT on the daily. They have pretty much every O&A ep from 2012 on there which is such a classic (jingles, Obama reelection, Sandy Hook etc)

I like Bill Burr.

30 minutes in & it feels like his comedy bits shoved in a movie.

He had the good sense to surround himself with 2 great actors in Bobby Cannavale & Bokeem Woodbine.

I enjoyed it even though it made me annoyed at the same time.

Definitely agree that a lot of it felt like a stand up routine.

Worth a watch if you have a spare couple of hours.

I found it to be one of those very insightful slice-of-life moderate dramedies where the careful incision gives greater understanding of the larger American experience within the confines of the body of their culture and laws. Like Mean Girls did.

It didn't lean extremely in any direction to preach to other people how to behave which would makes the zealous(who want to see their position amplified and enemies punished) unhappy. That was the first bit of meta-humor conveyed by the trailer of the movie and encouraged me to watch carefully.

Every scene had purpose beyond what was shown. It wasn't shallow comedy.

The interactions with the child of the no boundaries mother is a good example of showing that without boundaries the child won't respect the boundaries of others and put people at risk. Then expanded within the story of what can and can't be done realistically within the complexities of adult civil interpersonal relationships who have professional and long term commitments. Essentially dealing with the circumstance without throwing out the civilization with the bathwater; a message carried through every interaction in the movie as it reveals scenarios onscreen.

The "respected educator" showing how the corrupt will use community good intentions for their own gain and the plausible repercussions. How public school can be supported by the public and their community.

Showing how the blade cuts both ways with the millenial CEO, the reality of the posturing and taking advantage of for gain through overreach.

There were other scenes with more to them and I might post again about them after thinking about them more.

Character flaws were well used, as were virtues.

Don't recall the soundtrack except NWA.

The light touch humour was unexpected.

A surprisingly insightful movie into the subject matter that will unfortunately probably not have much broad appeal, but may be one that years from now gets more appreciation.

4/5

Watched it last tonight too with the wife. Just remind you of where we're at in the world and I don't have a problem with that because you're surrounded everywhere else reminded of some really odd things we are going through. It's movies like this that we need to make sure that people know that words are just words and not to take everything so damn serious and unfortunately we are already on an irreversible course to something worse before something better. Movies like this remind me that you can still have a sense of humor and poke fun at people that take shit too seriously.

I agree but I felt that the movie was just boring the more I watched it. I did chuckle at alot of the jokes though. I agree with the three main characters though on everything

Told me agree. I know some of the comments earlier said that I felt a bit like a standard routine and that's true. But in general, I'm glad he got to make a movie like this, even if he is speaking against a sea of noise going the opposite direction.

It has excessive swearing but if you listen to his podcast he comes off exactly the same. Bill's are really good guy and I appreciate him more as he has grown older and has two kids of his own.

As much as I dislike the movie, it's very much needed. It's something that the left needs to hear. I don't like either far right or far left politics in my entertainment personally. I think the story should be the main focus of any entertainment instead of the agenda regardless of whether right or left. I felt this film was very forgettable in that aspect

It wasn't about promoting left or right agenda, it was about how culture changes and how people adapt to change. The was some scenarios shown on how it affects those that brought their generational change with the millenial examples throughout the film. The self-importance, self-righteousness, the performative, how they try to insert their agendas they project into things to springboard their virtue signalling.

I would say both sides of the political spectrum are guilty of doing this

The only part I didn’t like was

Jack’s wife kicking him out of the house, seemed very hypocritical after she had also caused a mess with the Connor’s wife. If anything she should have been more understanding.

Well, that and the farting lady was just gross.

Watched it again and it's interesting that Gen Z is almost entirely skipped over. Except for the attempted Gen Z cultural references by Connor(Bobby Cannavale) that he misattributes to millennials in an attempt to connect with them. The only Gen Z character with a speaking part appeared to be the young dude that did the entire gesture with the fistbump and "no cap" at the end of the film.

I haven't seen it as I haven't had a Netflix sub in forever, but it's getting some humorously savage reviews on Letterboxd. Even from his fans (easy to spot as they're clearly listeners of his podcast).

Seeing as Burr is easily my favorite living stand-up comedian I am going to eventually watch it somehow, but I'm gonna go in with low expectations.

Just finished watching this, it’s pretty fucking awful. There are a handful of amusing jokes at wokester’s expense, but it gets old fast and the rest of the movie is predictable and boring as hell.

The new Jennifer Lawrence movie was funnier 🙃

Fucking insufferable, i still can't fathom what passes as "entertainment' nowadays.
I like Burr but this was just so friggin' cynical and cliche' that i just couldn't... every character feels like a caricature - both the "woke" and "non-woke" ones, American "comedy" and "humour" at its lowest form with some typical Burr stand-up jokes thrown in, everything feels soooo hyperbolic, everyone acts like a caricature and a complete cunt that in the end it doesn't even matter.

It's so "in your face" without any hint of subtlety neither in its "humour" nor in its 'message" that it becomes comically bad - remember the opening of Batman Vs Superman where there's a naziskin/neo-nazi assaulting a poor Muslim woman during the intro ? It was "HerP DerP BAD FASCiST scUm , RACISM BAD !1!" - i mean, fucking obviously it's bad, do you have to present it in such an idiotic, obvious and "in-your-face" way like we're 10-year olds ? Now, imagine a film where it does this for 1 hour and a half '- cause that's what "Old dads" is.

Poorly written, cliche', unenjoyable, soulless, predictable and boring, you've seen this shit a hundred times already, not even Bobby Cannavale could save this trainwreck of 'Murrican "movie".

I like Bill, he's cool, he should stick to doing stand-up though IMO.

I forgot I watched this the other day at a pal's house.

It's viciously unfunny. Burr is my favorite standup but this let me down, it made me second think him some. I can see what they were going for, but it doesn't represent any form of reality nor genuine humor. It comes off as if The Onion made a parody of a film to lampoon dudes who are obsessed with political correctness.

The most striking thing is that Bokeem Woodbine is 50 and still looks 35.
