Old Ultima Online Fans/Players - Have You Tried "Ruins and Riches" or "Ultima Odyssey"? Total Conversion Mod For UO.

I was seeing quite a few users talk about Ultima Online in the recent MMO thread ( https://www.neogaf.com/threads/what-was-your-first-experience-with-mmorpgs.1679133/ ) .. All you Ultima Online fans in here... should check out "Ruins and Riches" or "Ultima Odyssey" as it was called at first. It's basically a total conversion mod that is played offline, single player (but you can set it up as a server for friends). I almost posted it in that thread, but didn't want to hijack.

It effectively takes the bones of Ultima Online (stat/skills/inventory/all systems) and reworks them to be deployed more like a 1990s CRPG. I found it some years ago and I spent hundreds of hours just enjoying it. Stronnnnnng recommend. Boatloads of content, custom landmasses, reutilization of old land masses... Total reworking of the skills in some cases. The best thing? There's not a lot of information to find on the internet.... so it's truly a blind experience for the most part (and I loved that). It felt very appropriate for what the dev was shooting for. The base has since been taken and modified to fit for online only shards, like "Ultima Adventures", but Ruins and Riches is the true treasure for me.

If you do decide to check it out, there are links to the client and server to be found at that video. They are an older version and I know there are more updated versions floating around, but I never had any problems with this one and I know it works well. You can also find alternative mirrors or the newer version by Googling around and searching on Reddit.

Has anyone else played this?

Now now...You got me craving for CRPG (°_°`)
Have You Guys, have recommendation for CRPG with dark fantasy (dark visual) maybe akin to first diablo but turn based? I'd prefer offline though...

Have you checked out Divine Divinity? Not turn based, but Diablo-esque CRPG type.. game. I'd say it's a mix of Diablo and Baldur's Gate, IMO it's fire. I only played it for the first time this year and loooooved it. Dropped 80 hours on it.

If you do find any "CRPG with dark fantasy akin to first Diablo", put me on the list to notify please! Ruins and Riches is offline, not online, btw.

Tbh i rarely find the color palatte which similar to diablo/dark souls. Mostly rich of color and not dark. Divine divinity are still too bright, but yeah, played that few years ago, and looks fine. The closest with sinister atmosphere is Tyranny i think. I found older indie game thaat look dark, but i forgot the name. Will edit as soon as i find it

Edir: i recall the name
It's "serpent in the staglands"
Quite nice, although its might far from perfect

I wish there was an original, pure and clean UO client somewhere that completely ditches the AoS and onward art assets and references.
Can you elaborate more on what you mean by that? Classic client doesn't have AoS art does it? Or do you mean something else? The newer "3D" client they made is so horrifying.

I mean the client you can download from "classic" free shard sites like Second Age have "elf" option in character creation, samurai class etc. Mostly UI related stuff from the newer trash UO, I think some monsters have new ugly assets...

Ultima 7 and the follow up Ultima 7 The serpent isle completely took over my life when they first launched, I even remember trying to explain open world games to my friends at work before open world was even a thing.

TBH I'm not sure i could ever go back to that style of game 30 years later, i did try wasteland but it just never clicked, i would much rather have a U7 remake in a modern 3d engine.

Those options don't work. There are no "elves" in Second Age, none of the new graphics are present either there. UOSA uses only the old client and visuals, none of the new assets or garbage. UOSA is the only shard I play.
