"It was the toast of Cannes, the outright favourite of jury president Quentin Tarantino and has proved a huge success in its native Korea. With a mixture of extreme violence, stunning visuals and one of the best fight scenes ever, Oldboy has blown audiences away – and some of those cunning movie executives have had the bright and highly original idea of an American remake.

Justin Lin, best known for directing Better Luck Tomorrow, a tale of Asian-American high school overachievers who turn to crime, will be heading the project. He'll be working on an English script with his Better Luck screenwriters Ernesto Foronda and Fabian Marquez. They're all relatively untried talents, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Lin is currently working on Annapolis, the story of a wannabe Naval officer with James Franco, so Oldboy will presumably follow that. "

Motherfucking pieces of shit. THey're going to take it and spoil the fucking plot for everyone with a worthless, poorly directed, throwaway remake.

GO WATCH OLDBOY BEFORE THE 20 MINUTE THEATRICAL TRAILERS RUIN IT FOR YOU.

So why don't they just release it here?

The average american movie studio doesn't trust that the average american moviegoer can read.

And they are more or less correct.

Just saw it. Best film I’ve seen this year thus far.

Any word if it’ll ever get released in the states? Even at an ultra small film fest level?

And the news that it’s being re-done by the guy who did Better Luck Tomorrow? Jesus Christ, what a shitty choice.

Apparently Harry Knowles has a Commentary on the upcoming Ultimate OldBoy DVD coming out in Korea

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Harry Knowles needs to hurry up with that impending heart attack. He's such a plague.

Oh, and this remake crap is getting really ridiculous. Every big movie from the last couple years of Asian cinema is being remade. The worst part is that it seems to only delay the original's release on DVD here. Shit, even Martin Scorsese is getting in on this. And then you have the Ju-On guy directing the English version, and Hideo Nakata is directing the alternate Ring sequel. It's just crazy.

I actually bought the movie on dvd a few weeks ago from yesasia.com, and it's been sitting on my dvd rack all that time. I'm really afraid that it will turn out to be another Ichi the Killer. I must have a good dozen of retail asian flicks just sitting there. The hype is getting so big about that movie, it's scaring me :(

lmao, Hollywood has gone crazy with the remakes.

So what's next... superhero movies? reviving 'dead' franchise(s)? teen flicks? sci-fi/scary movie crossovers? Oh wait... that was already been done BEFORE.

Doesn't the korean firm has a say in what happens with their movies or are they money hungry corrupted sons of bitches too?
