"It was the toast of Cannes, the outright favourite of jury president Quentin Tarantino and has proved a huge success in its native Korea. With a mixture of extreme violence, stunning visuals and one of the best fight scenes ever, Oldboy has blown audiences away and some of those cunning movie executives have had the bright and highly original idea of an American remake.
Justin Lin, best known for directing Better Luck Tomorrow, a tale of Asian-American high school overachievers who turn to crime, will be heading the project. He'll be working on an English script with his Better Luck screenwriters Ernesto Foronda and Fabian Marquez. They're all relatively untried talents, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Lin is currently working on Annapolis, the story of a wannabe Naval officer with James Franco, so Oldboy will presumably follow that. "
