Indeed, Miami attorney and self-described "anti-game crusader" Jack Thompson is claiming victory in Eidos' decision. On Saturday GamePolitics reported Thompson's assertion that a 25 to Life lawsuit was imminent. This morning, Thompson released the text of a letter that he sent to Eidos' new CEO on September 15th. It reads, in part:
"I have been retained by a major charitable organization which represents surviving loved ones of law enforcement officers who have been slain in the line of duty...This organization and its members are extremely concerned that your company is set to release...what amounts to a "cop killing simulator."
...My clients intend to stop Eidos from releasing the game by legal action which we shall file very shortly...By the way, this is not a good time for the video game industry, given the video game bill that is on the California Governor's desk, for your company to be targeting cops in this fashion."
