I thought about this earlier this week. You may as well call the Series consoles a (near) dead platform at this point so if the next system is ready, what advantage is there to waiting until 2027? Obviously they aren't competing on the hardware front with Sony now, so they dont need to match the PS6 release window.

No way. We're not dealing with a case in which Microsoft is "only" dealing with a problem of their consoles struggling to sell more units or underperforming in some areas with a clear plan how to improve that. The company is making moves clearly suggesting there's not going to be another console, merely a PC in disguise for those wanting a "premium experience for a premium price".
I'll say it again, MS should have the balls and say it already, instead of this weird situation in which more people slowly realize and struggle to accept what is happening to this ecosystem.

I've seen plenty of people here comment about this erroneous connection between an OEM Windows handheld with off the shelf parts and a bespoke console APU that I don't believe are console warring, they just genuinely don't understand the difference...that is understandable, their HW strategy is an absolute mess, after all.
It's just hard to tell if some of the usual suspects here truly believe that the next Xbox is "just a pc". But again, it's hard to tell if someone is being ignorant because they lack information or if it's just console warring type ignorance.

This is something folks on here, in enthusiast circles, and Microsoft themselves simply do not understand.
Power has never been the key to moving units. Its UX. Xbox consoles have had awful UX since, I would personally argue since blades on the 360 but at least since they switched to Tiles with the X1. This UX for the FSE on Windows 11 is also just as bad as any UX experience they have produced in ages.

GTA 6 will likely be a true monster and I bet there are a decent amount of people that would want to play it on something that was clearly superior that doesn't care if that's an Xbox or a Playstation

RDNA5 isn't available until 2027.
Wasn't there a rumour that AMD would not accept anything less than 10M hence that's why the handheld was shelved?
Having said that, keep in mind that they might stuff a lot of those chips in datacentres instead of in homes like they apparently were with Series X.

Just because it has an APU (custom or not) it doesn't stop it from being a PC. It certainly won't be the first PC using an APU, there have been plenty of laptops using them, the big difference is that those laptops didn't have games optimised specifically for them.

Xbox will sell the case next year and then mail the APU the year after with assembly instructions!

That is my thought too. The console should be the priority since it would be less confusing as they transition. Unfortunately, it looks just as you said, the "Xbox" will come before the actual Xbox that plays the full library of Xbox games.

The RDNA 5 standard has a projected release date of 2027, so it'd be miraculous if they can mass produce devices a year before.

Still very interested since it first was mentioned that MS would have a box that can play Xbox games and PC games that I can put under my TV.
Never thought of myself as a "diehard Microsoft fanatic" but maybe I need to update my CV.

Cause I sure as shit don't. Every recent rumor is it's a pc that's backwards compatible so it can play Xbox console games. So that sounds to me like a chip with processors for pc games and processors to let it play series x and back games at hardware level. But I'm basing that guess off of the notion that the console component needs dedicated chip to avoid licensing issues with backwards compatible 3rd party games.

Man I just disagree on this one. I could care less about UX. Other than being an easy to use interface. Both Xbox/PS are interchangeable to me as far as UX goes. It's all about the games IMO and Xbox has failed for so long that it's now the perception that they don't have games. Even when they technically do now people still say it.
I do agree but IMO it would have been a short bump and then back to business as usual. I've noticed from a lot of your post that Xbox for a long time now seems to have been of the mindset that one game will turn everything around for them. I remember you had similar post when it came to putting COD on Gamepass. I think there were talks of them having massive hope that Starfield would also.
It took years of failures to get them here and it would take years of success to get them out. No one game is going to save Xbox.

Does it make sense to release 2026 Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Gears E-Day, Halo Campaign Evolved and so on instead to wait a few months, to launch the Magnus together with these games?
It's hard to believe that MS has for 2027 the same line up.

So, you think they're ditching Xbox OS...the only gaming performant fork of Windows in favor of Windows 11...as opposed to sandboxing and using VM's???
Also, you think that suddenly they decided that cross gen or "forwards compatibility" isn't a thing they would be interested in?
Not sure. They keep changing strategies every year. It's possible if they want to have a headstart on next gen and if the console/pc is as powerful as folks keep saying even if the ps6 releases 2 or 3 years later it should still be more powerful than the ps6 so folks might be wondering why they are buying a much weaker console/pc. Plus if the whole strategy is gamepass then having steam on it wouldn't really hurt the overall gameplan.
