On conscientious objection; Who DIDN'T see this coming?

I conscientiously object to easing your pain, bitch.

But yea, there needs to be some mad punishment dished out to pharmacists whose objections lead to denials of treatment.

i dont see anything wrong with refusing, but there should definitely be some sort of law to deal with the pharmacists that are refusing to give the prescription back... dont wanna fill it? fine, fuck off and give the prescripton back.

Mandark

Small balls, big fun!
1) Some pharmacists refuse to fill certain perscriptions, based on their beliefs.

2) Some states create laws that protect these pharmacists from being fired for doing this.

3) I get a job as a pharmacist.

4) I declare myself a Christian Scientist, who does not believe in the use of any worldly medicine.

5) ???

6) Profit.

And even i am moderately surprised
Dear cocklords,
fucking die soon, you are setting the world back centuries.
thanks,

They're pharmacists, their sole purpose is to fill persriptions given by doctors. They have no right to deny medication, they should try a different career.

They should have the right to decline to personally take part in filling a presciption, but yeah, they don't have the right to see to it that people do not get what they are prescribed.

Agreed.

There should especially be a punishment for refusing to give the prescription back.

Here's how consciensious objection should work.

You're drafted. You consciensciouly object. You don't go to war.

You become a pharmacologist. You consicensciously object. You're fired.

what fucking business is it of these people to make decissions on what is and isn't right MORALLY for YOU?

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NONE

We chide the fundamentalist Islamic movement for their archaic views, yet we bring in legislation to uphold this sort of shit? fucking hell.

The legislation in the link is a DEFENSE against this sort of shit. It allows doctors to give prescription medicine that is otherwise unavailable from pharmacists.

There are good reasons doctors shouldn't be giving out medication directly, though, so it may not be a very good idea.

disagree. If you personally object to specifics in your field due to moiral reasons, I don't think you should be doing that job.

What if all the people in a pharmacy had an objection? Nobody can be forced to serve you. Crazy

Oh I don't know if I am with you 100% on that one... particularly for psychotic drugs. Psychiatric patients are often prode to avoiding their medication, and this could have positive effect on compliance in these patients.

Actually, I don't think they should have the right to decline ANY legitimate perscription(unless there is obvious abuse etc. involved). If they can't handle the responsibilities of their job because of moral beliefs, they need to move on. Simple as that. Nothing angers me more then some religious freak attempting to impose their brand of morals on me or my family. they have NO right.

Heh, believe me I'm aware of that gotcha. I don't think this would help that very much though. While it might get those psychiatric patients to actually HAVE the medicine, it won't help them take it (particularily paranoid schizophrenics, who sometimes think the medicine is part of a conspiract -- I think they'd feel even more threatened with this actually -- or bipolars who feel their manic phase gives them creativity dampened by the medicine).
