Shenmue Rips Up Next-Gen

Shenmue is, in our minds, one of the greatest game series of all time, in fact we could go all out and say it is the best, however that isn’t what this is about. After much deliberation, word has reached us that work on the third game in the series has already started and will be arriving on one of the next gen systems. While we don’t know which of the systems will get the game, we do know that it will be an amazing title.

yeah I'd love to see Shenmue 3 on Xenon. but I'll await for actual word from SEGA-AM2 or even Digital Rex.

What deliberation do you have to go through in order to receive news? I dont know if this was a Freudian slip or not.. "after much deliberation, we decided this was the best news that we could bullshit and have people believe". Either way, this guy is quite the word smith. I hate people who use the English language as though it were an episode of Hee Haw.

Seeing this news makes me so happy that I'm reliving the horrendous voice acting that MADE Shenmue.

Ryo Hazaki: "Yeah..." <--- That right there is award-winning stuff.

Which is my major beef with the series. The absolutely terrible localization. I thought that maybe, just maybe, when the DC version of SMII was cancelled and MS took it in, they would make the localization do the game itself proud. Nope. It's probably WORSE than the first one. It's a shame, too, because the game itself looks and plays better on the XBOX.

If you haven't experienced the "acting" firsthand, you can ->here<-

I want that and remakes of 1+2 with state-of-the-art-graphics ! + NO LOADING TIMES
I'd marry Nozomi if Sega did do that. Oh wait - I'm talking about SEGA LOL

LOL I liked the voice acting in the first part and was sad there was no English voice acting in the second part. But never mind, English isn't my mother language, so...

The first two don't really need remakes - they're still fine looking games in this day and age.

Why not just release it on all consoles? The original fanbase split up after DC was discontinued, and part of the reason why Shenmue 2 sold poorly was because it was limited to the Xbox crowd.

Now that I finally have an Xbox, I got the 2nd game, but I have yet to play it.

The pop-ups, loading times and few slowdowns suck. Also I'd like to see the Passport models ingame.

I pray this is true, but there have been so many rumors about Shenmue 3 since such a long time that I do not want to believe anything anymore.
Is Digital Rex working on Shenmue Online with the korean devs, or is it only Yu Suzuki ?

Any sad site that would mention "Shenmue" and "great" in the same breath probably should NEVER, EVER be trusted.

Shenmue 3 is bound to happen (Christ, Shenmue Online is being made, and that makes far less sense by ANY measure), and as I said all along throwing it on a current system would be a complete waste of time. Ideally I'd love to see it on both PS3 and XBox 2, but as long as I get it I really don't care.Hell, throw it on DS and it'll be mine.

I hear that, in Shenmue III, you're going to have to polish 127 pairs of shoes before spending two hours arranging an old man's sock drawer.

It really gets good, however, when you have to find the tax accountant to get his BF-945 stamp so you can process the reimbursement requests...

I have yet to play through HL2 (getting a new rig) but would you guys say that SM3 and the Source engine are a good match? The way I see it, it saves AM2 some time with the graphics engine...supports all the texturing technologies needed, has a great physics engine (for a racing element...that'd be sweet!), and most importantly features a great engine for facial animations/expressions and lip syncing.

Come to think of it, we at GA should make a Shen Mue MOD for HL2! :)

I'm sure it would help, but I doubt Yu Suzuki would use any outside engine for his own games. Chances are it'll just use a heavily reworked Shenmue engine.

Shenmue 3 using the HL2 engine would completely obliterate the previous versions. I am amazed at the visuals, and especially the facial expression and movement in that game. Seems to have a decent horizon, too.

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Heh, AM2/Digital Rex isn't going to use somebody's else's engine for a Shenmue game, what a rediculous statement to suggest otherwise. Shenmue 3 should make HL2 look old when it comes out (and if not, them something's wrong). Also, this game needs to be on all next gen consoles, either that, or pick one console as the Sega console, and support that one to the hilt with all the games, like Konami, and EA has done with a lot of success.

One thing Sega has to realize that these fanboys spewing crap about every rumor, interview and press release they put out hurts them severely (why else would some troll every Shenmue topic, to keep up the negativety ofcourse). I've seen many game series and companies that are considered industry jokes by a large section of these ingrates just have terrible sales recently, regardless if it's deserved or not. Blinx 2, All non Sonic Sega games (their graphics not up to par, nor are they large budget titles), VJ2, Acclaim games, and a couple others I cannot remember at the moment.

Seems to me that retailers and customers pay a lot of attention to fanboy sentiment (which includes the pro's at mags and websites). That does not bode well for any of Sega's future efforts regardless of the actual quality. The only way they can turn it around is to have their next gen games knock people's socks off in terms of graphics (and choice of games matter also). That's probably a less than 50/50 chance of happening as I don't feel any urgency comming from them. Heads should be rolling and major shakeups at Sega of America should be happening, at the very least.

Disco Stu, and Cockles, you guys are not funny. Amature comedians are embarrasing. Must feel nice to embrace the hive mind of fanboyism.

This is the most likely possibility.

But considering that this series was a costly one and very time consuming, I was hoping they would change their mind.

Also of interest is the fact that Sonic Team used Renderware for Sonic Heroes. The main reasoning was probably the fact that it would be easy to port to all consoles as well as PC, but I wouldn't be surprised if they saved a lot of dev costs and made a bit of money on that game.

Err...no. I loved Shenmue - one of my favourite DC games. But if you can't laugh at some of it's idiocy and voice acting, then you must have a Saturn controller wedged up your anus....either that or a Sonic buttplug.

I loved Shenmue on Dreamcast and Shenmue II on DC & teh Box but I can see its many faults too.

one of my favorite things about Shenmue is that you can walk into an arcade and play games.... i just wished there was no loading time, when you decide to play, so that the experience was a bit more seemless.

Your joke is played out Cockles. If you're going to make one, at least be funny, or at least new. You don't even come close. Also, if you love Shenmue so much, I find it weak that you go along with the trolls so easily. Show me where to buy a Sonic buttplug, so I can send you one.

"Word reached us"?!

This is such bullshit.

"Work" on Shenmue 3 started ages ago in planning terms, but it is still "suspended" indefinitely... for now. The attitude at SOJ is still unchanged on the matter.

Given the polarity between hopeful Sega developments and the real state of affairs within the company, this probably means Sega is declaring bankruptcy soon.

No, it doesn't. There is still stuff on the way. Just not Shenmue 3, yet. It wouldn't surprise me if the project is greenlighted in 2005. Either way in the meantime there are some hotties on the way.

well.. I'm surprised people will still fall for this. Its SEGA and its SHENMUE. Both bombtastic. I don't think we'll be seeing it (don't get me hopes up)

If I embraced the hive mind, wouldn't I be worshipping Shenmue instead of poking fun at it?

While I ponder that question, maybe I would like to play a game of Lucky Hit.

that is beside the point, which was that you were saying we wouldn't see another Shenmue because it the others were "a bomb." I proved otherwise, since they are already making something that is probably going to bomb even more than a Shenmue 3.

How's that possible when Shenmue gets trolled more then any series on this board outside of Blinx?

As for Sega's current output, I wouldn't worry about it...why waste the gems on current systems when no one would give a shit anyway? Been saying the same thing for almost two years now...save the big stuff for the new consoles, it's the only way to go.

Now if Sega's announcing stuff like Astroboy X, Samurai Jack Live and Super Tetris for Xenon at E3 as their big guns with nothing else in sight, then I'd start to worry. But I'd rather let the eggs hatch first then be an idiot about things ahead of time.

your justification on why its okay for SEGA to teh suck is mind-boggling. You're making it sound like their deliberately making crap games. They're not. They're making games they think you and I want to play and that will sell. And they're mostly crap. I don't see how a next gen shift will suddenly make SEGA better.

You're already an idiiot :lol
