I think Spore was the most overhyped game that I remember.
Same with Epic Mickey.
Same with Epic Mickey.
I wouldn't agree with this. GT5 sold over 10 million copies, was one of the most post-launch supported games of all time, constant online population, and was used for competition for several years.
If the longest 30 minutes of an E3 press conference ever counts as "hype" then:

Seriously, wasn't Book of Spells supposed to be the first of many Wonderbook titles? Did any of the others even come out?
Epic Mickey was overhyped but I wouldnt call it forgotten. Every Warren Spector soundbite thread was filled with posts that said "shut up you made epic mickey"I think Spore was the most overhyped game that I remember.
Same with Epic Mickey.
How can all of you forget the infamous return of......Medal Of Honor!, real Tier1 killas
Worked on this game son!, they even have a map of Bin Laden compound, EA will finally bring down COD! Wooooo....
Yeah remember that?
Is amazing how much this describes Titanfall. Just replace "Halo Killer" with "CoD Killer."
Only fanboys in disguise could put GT in this thread.
Nonsense.
Brute Force was hyped beyond belief as the next Halo. Luckily, I rented it and never bought.
Too Human. Too much hype. It was going to be a trilogy, right? The ice skating looking fighting engine blew my mind.
Haze.
Black.
Perfect Dark Zero was hyped as a system seller. Craziness.
- Perfect Dark Zero (sadly, since I loved the first on N64)
As a followup to Perfect Dark, it was fucking attrocious:OK I also loved this game. I don't know what's wrong with me, I tend to have a blast with games that get hate. Then again I played it entirely co-op with a XBL friend, which made it more enjoyable.
As a followup to Perfect Dark, it was fucking attrocious:
- Boring-ass MP
- Awful graphics (oh, but the walls look so cool, lawl)
- Ruined Joanna Dark as a character
- Lame supporting cast
- Shockingly awful story with perhaps one of the lamest plot twists in the history of AAA gaming
- Level design so bad they had to put blue arrows on the ground to tell you where to go
- Boring, pointless mission objectives

After VF2, the series never quite made a huge splash again after being usurped by Bamco's 3D fighters.
Wow, I worked on many of these games.
PR/marketing for:
Tao Feng
Blinx
Brute Force (and a tiny bit of VO)
Nightcaster
Azurik
You're welcome for the over hype?
VF4? That game was a huge hit in my country. Most of my friends got introduced to VF with that game.
I don't know how much hype it had, but I NEVER see anyone talking about it.

Knack
And VF3 was the most popular arcade in Japan for years. Visually speaking it also made a massive splash since it took a full generation before consoles actually were able to catch up to it (VF3 was released in the same year as the N64).
Hellgate: London.
I remember seeing full cover images depicting the cover art and even huge coverage at TGS... and then immediately feeling 'blah' when I played the game. The same happened to Marvel Heroes.
Poor David Brevik, he'll probably never top his (best) creation, Diablo II.
inb4 the hate. I hope he does.
I bought Nightcaster based off of the box art. Whatever, I thought it was fun.
Also, I loved this game and was happy it was finally released after all the Dreamcast/from the creator of Tomb Raider/will this game ever be released hype.

Watch Dogs shipped 8 million copies. It's hilarious to see it named in a thread like this.
Same deal with Titanfall.
Why do people always use these kinds of threads as a space to shit on popular games?

Has Jade Empire been mentioned?
Huxley.
Finally came out in beta form in 2010 as a game not at all what they advertised, then quickly shoveled under the rug and never fully released.
I can't explain how hyped I was when this game was first getting coverage. An insane cross-platform MMOFPS with a fully developed world. What a fucking joke.
Oh man this was supposed to be huge
Wasnt the guy behind it some math genius?
A few titles from the cobwebs of my mind:

Hellgate London. Was hyped as the next Diablo.
Holy shit Tao Feng. Good job, I actually got really excited for that game. When I talk to people about this game now they have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about.Wow, I worked on many of these games.

The concept art for this game was hyping people, but then they released those really early beta screenshots...and the game ended up with a terrible camera...well..
Some people are surprised it got a 3DS spin-off and a Sequel as it did.
Voodoo Vince on Xbox wasn't crazy hyped, but I can't remember the last time I heard that game mentioned.
GTA V, Titanfall
GTA V, Titanfall
8.2 Million people seemed awfully interested in watching the PS4/XB1/PC trailer.
COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FORGOTTEN!
