One specific person assumes PS5 3rd Party Devs Are Finding Hardware Troublesome™, “Sony Too” May be Common

As long as it has good games it will be a success. Power is not everything. The PS2 was less powerful and it won big time.

I'm sure PS5 console has a lot of problems that's why games on PS event was captured on PS5 while games on Xsx was captured on PC "representative of Xsx experience"

Either Jeff's a dipshit or the programmers he's speaking to are dipshits. Smartshift is hardware level and automatic. It's literally a way for the CPU and GPU to give each other a hand by the switching and swapping available resources from frequency to power draw if one of the 2 isn't at maximum usage percentage.

If your game is CPU intensive but not GPU intensive, then smart shift will use the spare GPU power to help the CPU and vice versa, if the scene is graphics heavy but compute light, it'll use the spare CPU cycles to help calculate stuff for the GPU.

They are just fanboys talking drivel, like colbert and timdog...

If they could at least string a coherent technical FUDcase together to have reasonable FUD, but they are too stupid.

Nothing to see here.

Fake 4K, Fake lighting, OMG.

99% things in our life are compromises and fakes, but 4K must be the TRUE ONE !!!

No optimisations in games allowed !!!

In before it's dismissed by Sony fanboys claiming he doesn't know what he's talking about instead of having a normal discussion about the possibilities...

fake edit...

oops too late :p

Yeah I kinda think theres too much smoke for this not to be true at this point. In gaming I think smoke seems to actually indicate fire. Kinda seen that with Halo. So I definitely think devs are probably trying to grasp how to make it work more effectively. To some degree with new hardware isnt that expected. I expect janky launch games. And probably great running ones aswell.

We need direct feed gameplay from both consoles. The fact we've seen very little is infuriating.

You saw a long direct feed Ratchet PS5 gameplay sequence with teleportation between worlds only possible on PS5 SSD.

You're right we saw none from XSX though, probably because nothing good is ready to be shown right now.

And now jeff is stating he is prodding asking for dev feedback

Move along, nothing to see here, journalists speculating and looking for stories.

He knows NOTHING.

Yeah, this is too much 'bad news' from supposed insiders, in too short of a space of time, after sustained bad publicity for the new Xbox's, for me to see this as anything other than a hack job.

I'm not saying it can't be true mind, but there's too much coincidence and convenience to these 'leaks' for my 'these are talking bollocks' sense not to tingle.

It's all coming from the same person.

Jeff Grubb is Dusk Golem.

The article fails to realise that.

Yeah and it was great. But we need more.

Plot twist...

Xbox Series X will likely have its own version of DLSS via its DirectML solution (Machine Learning).

So you think XSX will make "Fake 4K" too ? Just kidding, that's definitely the way to go. Native 4K is usually a waste of GPU budget. PC is doing that too with DLSS. But when Sony does it, there are 10 threads about it and the sky is falling.

Umm ok. I was just saying in general. Use the extra resources for the game and not extra pixels using dlss. Xsx has its own built in version that would be nice

"it may be, I don't know for sure, I'm not a developer.... I think...This could...you could... but my understanding...people [could be]....That could..."

Boy there sure are a lot of possibilities there Mr. Grubb Snax

On the most recent episode of the Basement Radio Arcade Podcast , noted insider Jeff Grubb hinted that devs are having trouble with the PS5's variable frequency approach, and warned that gamers may be "disappointed" by some major third-party titles.

The technology that Sony's using for the PS5 is AMD SmartShift and...a lot of people are just assuming the PS5 is going to be right there with the Xbox Series X, and it may be, I don't know for sure, I'm not a developer, but this SmartShift tech is worrisome I think. What it does is it moves power between the CPU and the GPU and developers really haven't had to worry about that, especially on consoles, in the past.

This could, at launch at least, prove troublesome, to the point where you could start getting stories from Digital Foundry or whatever saying "Y'know, the PS5 version is actually kind of wack." That will get cleared up over time, developers will figure it out, Sony will figure it out and explain to developers "here's what to do," but my understanding is they're not doing that yet and that's the issue. So, you go into launch, and people [could be] disappointed, with, like, Madden, NBA 2K, Call of Duty. That could leave a bad taste in people's mouths.

Where in the quote does he say that developers claim that? I only read "i think" or "my understanding". Who cares what HE thinks? According to his own statements, he is not a developer.

Also, I don't think Sony has anything to explain to the developers - the DevKits have been out for months, we hear from all sides that it's super easy to develop on the PS5. Sorry, but the guy and his opinion is irrelevant.

Non Devs or people who are not direct employees shouldn't really be taken too seriously about these claims. I do find it a little odd that info that is being stated as fact could of been known months ago but only comes out straight after Xbox have had a disappointing news week!

But that is purely assumption on my part!

I love this guy : "Here is my FUD article. Now if unlike me you understand this, please reach out to me."

He can't be serious... I hope at least he gets paid.

The title of this thread should be changed, because according to the quote in the OP, nothing was reported about 3rd party developers. Instead, Jeff Grubb speculated and expressed his own opinion.

So people in here really think MS are paying for stories like this to come out? Talk about fanboy delusions. It's always a massive conspiracy when someone says something about the PS5, but it's not as if Sony haven't messed it up before thinking they knew what was best for developers. Does the CELL processor ring a bell anyone? No? They did it just two generations ago and people think its out of the question that they may have messed up again and apparently this shitty little snippet of news (from a tweet might i add) is paid for by MS?

I think that IF MS were ever to pay for bad PR pointed towards Sony, it would be in a much bigger fashion with a more reputable source. If it sounds like bullshit, it probably is the fanboy accusing of Xbox is nothing but troll material.

There's a mental math here going that seems to think that Xbox doesn't have Smartshift.
Which is a proprietary tech from AMD designed for their Zen CPUs and RDNA GPUs. It's literally AMD designed for those 2 core types of theirs to perform this function!

And some how only the PS5 is struggling because of 'Smartshift'?

So some developers say it's really easy to develop for and other developers can't get games tu run at 480p.

This is getting weird.

I do wonder what is more difficult to work with: SmartShift and variable frequencies or a Split Memory Pool 🤔

Dude doesn't know the price or the performance differences, from his own mouth.

And yet continues to spew fud at every moment.

What a fucktard

There's his mistake. Talking about development when he just doesn't have the proper knowledge to understand it. I still like the guy though for giving some insight to things like rumors.
