Bishman said:Ong Bak should be a hit since it a martial art fighting movie. Word of mouth will also carry it.
Dubbing badly in English is the only answer.ChumsGum said:They almost have to subtitle the movie. The Thai language is really annoying sounding, it's harsh and high pitched. I think most Americans would walk out hearing that girl talk Thai throughout the movie.

You know what subtitles are, right?
They're that little yellow text at the bottom of the screen. You know, so the movie is in it's normal language, but viewers in another country can read the subtitles and understand what's going on.
Wario64 said:Is this going to be a wide theatrical release?
Ecrofirt said:it's at like 100 theaters in california, and 4 in pennsylvania. Fuck you, Ong Bak. Fuck you.

i've had the import dvd(ebay) for awhile now and tony jaa is without a doubt the next <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=jackie%20chan" onmouseover="window.status='jackie chan'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">jackie chan</a>(as a matter of fact, jackie was so impressed when he saw the film, he's apparently got an offer out to jaa to star as his pupil in "drunken master 3" jackie would be his teacher).
the fight scenes in this flick: literally bone crushing. they appear to be full contact!
and the stunts-totally reminded me of jackie chan's earlier days like "police story".
if you haven't seen this: grab it!
hell, i bought my dvd off ebay for $5!
Takuan said:Those DVDs have hilarious subtitles. They're so bad they're good! Seriously, subtitles really shouldn't be a concern. The story is barely there, it's all about the action.
I think Ong-Bak has the potential to do pretty well. I saw quite a few commercials over the weekend on sports networks, even one during the Superbowl (although it was during pre-game ceremonies). The only problem with the movie is it takes a little bit to finally get rolling; the audience is fed bits and pieces of action that gradually increases, until it gets crazy at the end.
Howlin' Mad said:The other thing that makes me nervous about these Ebay dvds is that a lot of them don't bother to list Tony Jaa as a star. Some say starring: Suwinit Panjamat or Phanum Yeerum or Mum Jok Mok. I'm just worried about getting another movie labeled as Ong Bak.
DarienA said:That's hilariously funny because when you said Tony Jaa I didn't know who the hell you were talking about. Panom Yeerum is his "real" name AFAIK. Tony Jaa may be the Americanized name that will be used for his future or is use now as his name.
Dante said:Hey, did you guys see his halftime performance at the Dallas Mavericks games? It's really amazing, it's on the official site at www.ongbakmovie.com some of the stuff he's doing without wires is amazing, especially when he flip kicks that baskeball at the end of the performance.
tell me you're joking...DarienA said:Finally checked out New Police Story this weekend as well.... VERY nice... lots of emotion, good action, etc... was probably one of the most balanced roles I've ever seen Jackie do in terms of great fighting, great action, crazy stunts.. AND emotional acting.
Its kind of funny that you would say that. Considering all of the cool looking things you see in martial arts movies that would, in a real fight, just get you your ass kicked, its suprising that there is nothing cooler looking than a flying knee, which is a technique that actually works.catfish said:the fight scenes are stunning in this flick. I mean I never even thought that jumping across the room and kneeing a guy in the face while also elbowing him in the face would work. But it does!
Lil' Dice said:Fuck, i want to see it but i can't find the video. When i click on one of his "appearances" icons, nothing happens.
Hey man, its subtitled "Muay Thai Warrior" for a reason.ScientificNinja said:Tony Jaa uses his knees and elbows in ways that make me want to jump up and copy him just as I did as a kid with Bruce Lee. I mean, a guy has Tony in a headlock from behind, and Tony hits him in the face. WITH HIS ELBOW. Bloody awesome.
ScientificNinja said:Oh Christ - the hyperbole in this thread is too much. It is NOT the best movie ever. The story is rubbish and so's the acting - at best equivalent with Bruce Lee's The Big Boss.
The fight scenes are what you watch this movie for. Tony Jaa uses his knees and elbows in ways that make me want to jump up and copy him just as I did as a kid with Bruce Lee. I mean, a guy has Tony in a headlock from behind, and Tony hits him in the face. WITH HIS ELBOW. Bloody awesome.
