Onimusha 3 = ownage.

Saw it for $20CDN at Best Buy and couldn't couldn't pass it up. Don't know why I waited so long really, cause this is one of the finest action games I've ever played. The controls are sublime, and action is frenetic, and the graphics/art are amazing. Jean Reno is so great in this game too, whipping enemies, throwing them around, bashing boulders into em...sooo fun. I don't want to play as Samonosuke anymore, Jaques is 100x more fun to play with. Just an overall amazing experience. Definately in my top 5 action games this gen, and considering the awesome stuff out there (DMC, Viewtiful Joe), that ain't easy to do. (I've got such a Capcom bias when it comes to action games :P).

I didn't like to play as Jean Reno. I wish he wasn't in the game. The best level in the game is that huge battlefield where hundreds and hundreds of enemies will be runing towards you and you just slash your way through them, preferably with the instant kill counterattack move. That was just great.

Best CG intro ever

As for the game, it was ok. I'm glad they ditched the "tank" controls though

Seriously? It was the easiest final boss in the whole series.

Anyway, Onimusha 3 bombed sadly. Seeing a game like Sengoku Musou sell a million while Onimusha 3 hits down a few notches bothers me.

I just got bored I guess. And I had only like 1 or 2 healing items when I got to him.

And it pissed me off that I had to fight him as Sano when Reno's character had more items and better stats.

yeah, i just bought it for $15, and am pleasantly surprised by the quality. while the graphcis dont impress anymore, the art is nice. and hockey storyline aside, the action is pretty good. still the whole structure and design is just so dated for today that i cringe. a rope ladder inside a treasure box on one side of a cave, which would enable you to go down into a well on the other side of the cave. whats the meaning of this sort of a puzzle? it has no relevance to the game world. samanosuke could make a rope ladder, or if they didnt want him to get down, why would they put the rope ladder inside a treasure box and not just burn it?
anyway rants aside, the production quality is nice, voice acting is decent, and the mechanics of the combat works well once you get used to blocking and dogding.
but the genre is getting way outdated though. either puzzles need to get better, or they need to make them straight action games like shinobi.

Ah, interesting. You could get through if you learned to dodge a lot, since healing souls are abundant at the final boss.

I just picked it up today from Circuit City, price matched Best Buy's website because I didn't feel like driving over to BB and was already at CC. ;P

Everyone raved on about this game.

I bought it, for 50 bucks, and hated it. It sucked horribly. I only enjoyed the first Onimusha, and that was because the PS2 had no other games worth playing back then.

Futami?

Nah, that's happened to me before with Perfect Dark, but that's cause you gotta go through a boring 20 minute stage everytime you die.

LOL, I've been on this board long before Futami (came here in 1999).

And why, did he claim he played a game and stopped once he reached the end boss? I seem to recall something like that, was it Zelda: MM?

Really? Did you used to have a different name?

Yeah he said, and I quote:

"I DID play Majora's Mask. I made it all the way to Ganon and lost interest."

And of course, the following post was pure gold. By some guy named Psyman who I don't think is around anymore...

"GANON WASN'T EVEN IN MM YOU IGNORANT LIAR!"

Yeah, my previous handle was The Snake, but I stopped coming to this board around mid-2002 for almost 6 months, and when I got back I decided to make a fresh start.

Ahh yes, I remember now. Didn't know you were him, awsome.

Meh, 3 was my least favorite in the series by far. The biggest reason was the move to 3d backgrounds; I loved the softer, hand painted look of the previous games.

Secondly, I really didn't like Reno's character. Just too hokey, and considering the subject matter, that's saying something.

Weapons were cool, monsters were solid.

Never finished it- got bored. Now that I've played through Ninja Gaiden, I don't see myself ever going back to even try getting through it- I'd rather play the Hurricane Packs.

Awesome. I loved Oni1 and 2 but I've been waiting for this to drop in price since I got good deals on the other two and getting it cheap just seemed right.

Now that it's $20, consider it sold!

I will be picking up 2 and 3 tomorrow, but are any other stores selling part 1?

Since Onimusha 1 is already a Greatest Hits like Onimusha 2, finding it shouldn't be a problem at stores.

I picked this up the day it came out. I LOVE the Onimusha franchise. While it's kinda out there, I think Capcom has done the least with it to fuck it up as far as the plot line gones. Granted, the whole current day Paris thing was kind of fucked up, but it's ok because I got to play as Jean Reno and he's a fucking badass in the game.

i got Onimusha 1, 2, 3 the first day when it came out. Probably one of my most fav. serie on the PS2. High replay value, esp Onimusha 2, so many scenerios and items/bonusses to unlock, must have played it for nearly 7-8 times. But i only played Onimusha 3 two times and unlocked everything.
And about those dumb puzzles, Onimusha games were never about the puzzles like Resident Evil, it was all about the action. Yeah, the story and back-to-the-future stuff was really bullshit, but in the end it didn't affect the gameplay, at least for me.
Eagerly awaiting for the next Onimusha installment.

I thought this game was badass. The final battle showdown was epic. Graphics were among the best I've seen on ps2. Gameplay was a ton of fun. I enjoyed playing with Jacque more than I did with Samanouske. I could never get the black vest tho. Too fricken hard.
