Onimusha Way of The Sword is 20 hours long, not connected to previous games, game heavily focused on parrying

everyone taking about the parry shit when the most important info they just shat out was that it had no story connection
Alt timeline or reboot probably. Pretty hard to top DoD.

Though like Capcom's other IP's it sounds like Onimusha is being put through the Streamline grinder.

so mad right now

someone call me down

I mean hey they gave us a peace offering with the Onimusha 2 remaster.
hmmmmmmm....... i'll take it

but i mean if you look at my post history, i wanted a new onimusha title and have been craving for it since 2006. I can't believe it's been 20 years...

Another parry fest

Street Fighter 3rd strike had the best parry system.

I think Issen is one of the best things in an action game. Its ultimate risk/reward. You can one shot literally every regular mob in the game and they all take different timing. You can do it from a perfect block, or just by slashing before you get hit. And, enemies with shield you can kick and then Issen. But I could never pull it off consistently.

I actually wished the new game would take this mechanic. No fishing for repeated parries, just a one hit kill if you're good.

I beat Onimusha 1 twice this month, its a great game that you can beat in 3 hours or so. And I have to say I love the static camera despite not being always all that practical, but you get some great angles during sword fights that is kind of lost with modern cameras.

This'll probably make you even more angry, but...
Um...
It's not like Onimusha had a terrific story to begin with. It really was generic demon-killing. This is spoken as a genuine fan of the series - at least the first two games, which I admit are the only two I played. I loved them, though.

IDK, I can't help but to be optimistic. I like what I see so far.

LIKE, I waited 50 years for a SEQUEL/PREQUEL/IDGAF, not a reboot?????????? HELLO?????? There are PLENTY of other samurai games out there??????? Why would I not just play these titles instead??? NAH let's give Onimusha the GOD OF WAR treatment, FUCK ME.

I know how you fell, this will probably disappoint just like Dragon's Dogma 2

Not for me, I'm having tons of fun with majority of "modern games".

In fact my biggest issue I'm facing keeping up with all the games coming out.

Only 1 AAA game from a dev per generation, microtransactions everywhere, 2k+ dollar GPUS, lots of digital only stuff

I miss 360/PS3 Era, simpler times

Yeah, but that's the problem. Like you said, you waited many many years decades for the sequel. Well now the majority have forgotten about it. It's only us old gamers that still remember this shit even with the HD remasters.

Personally, I have no problem with a remake. Assuming they're going to go with a somewhat similar story, who knows we might get sequels this might be the rebirth of onimusha one can only hope because man it's been way too long since these awesome games.

Personally, I just hope it can carve out its own spot considering it's launching in the era of souls and souls like.

Not being open world is a definite plus.

The rest could really go either way. A demo would be ideal.

20 hours is solid for a linear action game. Multiple difficulty levels, new game+ and some type of other challenge stage elements help promote replayability and makes it worth the price when it's on the shorter side. Action game designers used to know this stuff.
For me, not bringing the garbage textures from 4Remake is fine to me.

Old folks know this, so I'll just leave this here for those who was born in 2001:

Onimusha: Warlords
Has parry / perfect block system
Not modern, but visually similar

I said months ago it looked like a Soulslike and I had virgins coming after me for it. Now it's confirmed it's a Sekiro clone where you people at?

I trust capcom. They rarely miss.

I'm hoping there is difficulty settings for those of us who want to be challenged. There's an opportunity here to make a DMC/Ninja Gaiden like replayable game. Onimusha 1 for example is highly replayable since it's 3 hours long but not really a game you can challenge yourself with to want to replay a lot of times. This could correct that in some ways.

I'm optimistic. 20 hours long, Onimusha, not open world, capcoms track record, etc.

Still day one for me.

so basically nothing like Onimusha

the goofy ass writing and character in the trailer were concerning enough
Pretty sure he's goofy before he's killed, then he receives the gauntlet and becomes a serious samurai.
It's good to add dimension to characters, as much as I like Kratos…his hard arse all the time gets a little cringey after a while.

Soulslike genre become a safe shelter for every creatively bankrupt developer it seems like

and yet another game being called a souls like, for the crime of having swords, by uber-casuals masquerading as gamers...

it's getting ridiculous guys.

Funny thing is other than Sekiro, NONE of the FROM's other games are "parry" focus.

Games like Demons Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring have parry but you can play entire game without ever using parry.

For fuck sake, parry is not unique to Sekiro.

Just give me options, if I don't want to parry, let that be okay and so I can still attack and hurt enemies. I really don't want it to be like Sekiro.

and Sekiro isn't even a soulslike... making this even more hilarious

Well, it doesn't sound like yet another soulsbourne to me, so It's an instant win in my books. Especially the linear structure.
