The only game I wanted was Diablo 3. I thought that would be up on Origin but it wasn't. So the only time I wanted to use their service was for a game that's not up there.

Is there anyway to get it digitally? Obviously it's not on Steam. And amazon just has boxed retail versions.

It's pretty clear that currently Origin is not providing any competition with Steam (and probably never will by the looks of it). It's simply the EA specific site to get EA games at this point and essentially irrelevant as a viable competitor. The Valve guys probably look at stuff like this and roll around laughing (if they even bother to look at it at all).

Note I'm not saying Steam doesn't need viable competition, but EA/Origin have failed miserably to provide any.

The only EA games that have been redeemable on Steam are (some of) those included in the Humble EA Bundle... and Amazon sells Steam keys for Kingdoms of Amalur.

I welcome competition within clients.

Steam does good as far as sales and community goes. Yet, I hate using the service sometimes because it's sometimes slow and buggy.

Meanwhile origin is a beast when it comes down to accessibility. Unfortunately, there's not many games to choose from except the usual ea exclusives which are fine but......it's ea exclusives and some random aaa games. I wish ea would work out a better deal to bring more to origin because I really enjoy the service for what it is.

Dead space 3 is a pretty great Co-op shooter. It fails as survival horror though, but it's a game well worth playing in co-op.

My favorite thing about having Origin open is how it lets me seemlessly play with a controller in the living room, and download mods 100% integrated directly in the client. Also, its support for open source software is really great too.

Just to note, the speed they give you is based off the installed game size, not the size you're downloading so it's extremely misleading.

Indeed...

When I installed titanfall it took about 10 to 15 minutes tops.

When origin first came out it was a nightmare trying to install games. It must have taken a whole day to get need for speed shift to download onto my pc.


on another note:

It seems like I'm the only guy in the world that loved cnc 4. Despite the crappy videos it was a good game...just a different change in combat compared to the usual cnc games.

Origin lies about download speeds; well, not lies, but reports them in a totally different way than any other downloading program ever has ever reported them.

In a web browser, or Steam, or anything else ever, if you download a 10 megabit (1.25 megabyte) compressed file (like a zip file) in one second, the reported speed would be 10 megabits per second. In Origin, if you download a 10 megabit (1.25 megabyte) zip file, it will determine the size of the data extracted from the compressed file, say, 50 megabits (6.25 megabytes), and report that your download speed was 50 megabits per second. There could be an argument to be made for the latter type of reporting, but the fact remains that no one else does this, so it's dishonest to do so in comparison.

Several GAFfers tried like-for-like download speed tests (IE downloading the exact same game on Origin and Steam) and found comparable speeds for both if measuring actual download times and network traffic, rather than relying on Origin's reporting.

It may still be the case that Origin offers you faster download speeds than Steam, but the numbers they report do not support or refute that claim. How fast is your internet connection supposed to be?

Well that's not entirely true. I have my PC hooked up to my TV and it boots straight into Big Picture mode which I control via my wireless 360 pad.
I can play every game in my library and when I'm done I can shut down the PC again just using the remote. I don't have to touch the keyboard or mouse once. In that regard. It feels like a console.

Can Origin do that? Can I integrate Origin games into Steam such that I can launch them as if they were a native Steam game? Because if it can then I'll jump in. Please tell me I can do it.

A short while after Origin launched officially, I think they really tried to go toe-to-toe against Steam's sales. Since then, however, their sales have been extremely infrequent and lacklustre.

The only thing that keeps them on my radar at all right now is their free game offer.

You can definitely create shortcuts to Origin games in Big Picture, but I'm not sure if the Origin client requires a mouse when it pops up.

I'm in the same situation as you, but I always have a wireless mouse on the coffee table just in case a game has a wonky launcher or other such nonsense.

I'm conviced Origin speeds aren't accurate. I've had it go past what my service was capable of.

I that case i dont think that they are missing the point They're making a joke that people buy games mainly because the games are so cheap even if the interest in the games themself might not be very high in the first place, while on Origin they have cheap games and games that people are interested to play. Naturally its just said in a more jokeful way.
