PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS oh god i am drowning in them
I'd rather not shell out cash for Office X, and Open Office runs like utter ass on my iBook. Any suggestions? I primarily need to do word, excel and power point (because ass hole professors won't put up PDFs) files. I don't need any of that other crazy ass shit.

Who said you had to shell out cash OfficeX? :)

There is Appleworks, Mellel, AbiWord etc... I've never used any of them though. Pretty sure AbiWord is free.

Haha, I probably should have said, I'm a poor as fuck college student who needs to get shit done, and Open Office blows.

Edit: Never mind, found the WIP

All this crap makes me almost want to go YARR, but, I'm trying so hard to be good. Real hard.

Try NeoOffice.

http://www.neooffice.org/

It's running under Java, so it may not be all that fast, but at least it's not running under X11. Things are integrated a bit better in this port.

Granted, it's not the best solution -- but it does work and seems rather stable.

When you say you don't want to shell out, do you mean you don't want to pay the student price of $150 for Office 2004? I'm as quick as anybody to bash MS, but the OS X version of Office works like a charm (barring the nastiness of "sections" in Word, which is more or less to resolve compatibility issues with the PC version). $500 for Office is ridiculous, but IMO the suite is actually worth $150.

That said, I've also heard very good things about Mellel from people who now use it as their primary processor (it was originally designed to handle Hebrew, right?). But the last I heard it has file conversion issues: you can covert a file from Word to Mellel, but not Mellel to Word.

Abiword was crashing up something nasty, and I'm not one to go pirating, so I went and checked my campus bookstore, $60 for the student end. I can live with that.
