A gun-themed Nike ad has been removed from Oscar Pistorius' site after the Olympic hero known as "Blade Runner" was charged with shooting and killing his girlfriend at home early on Valentine's Day morning.

The ad, seen above, features the tagline, "I am the bullet in the chamber" next to a stylized image of the sprinter bursting out of the starting blocks. It had previously received very prominent placement on Pistorius' site, according to this screenshot from sport24:

I have an old friend who grew up in Johannesburg. He used to talk about the issue with violence in the city. I guess home invasion and murder/kidnapping is/was an issue there. Apparently at the time criminals would follow you home, and attack/rob you as you entered you're house. If there was a car behind him as he was about to pull into his house, he would drive past his house and around the block (or just drive around) and eventualy drive home once there wasn't car behind him. He said this was something many people do for their own protection. If that kind of paranoia is so prevalent I could understand this guy freaking out if there was some one rummaging through his house in the middle of the night.

I think this happens in many cities. I lived in the garden apartment (see: lower level of brownstone) in Brooklyn and my landlord told me that criminals cased the area all the time. Lo and behold, one night I hear a bunch of ruckus upstairs and my landlord comes crashing down the stairs to tell me that his house was burglarized. He was in his study on the same floor as me.

From the reports this guy is claiming this shit always happens to him. Either way, I can't see how it's possible to misidentify someone you love, and without hesitation, shoot them.

There is no way this was accidental. This thread is ridiculous.

Police added that there had been previous incidents at the address and described them as "allegations of a domestic nature".

This is getting a bit academic now, since the information emerging fits a 'mistaken intruder' story less and less as time goes on, but if you live in a country where the rate of indiscriminate murder and violent crime is high, people who protect themselves with weapons may shoot first and ask questions later if they find an intruder in their house.

But like I say, it's looking less and less like that story will fly.
