r/outriders - Outriders Worldslayer Reveal Megathread

Welcome back Outriders!
It’s been a short few months since we rolled out our free New Horizon update, which added some new content, implemented a lot of player feedback and generally made Outriders more of the game you asked for. That being said, there are always more things that could be added and improved upon, and Outriders Worldslayer is here to do just that.

Outriders Worldslayer, which launches June 30, is designed to be the supreme version of Outriders and has been developed with both new players and veterans in mind. While Worldslayer content does pick up after the events of Outriders, any player can start with Worldslayer content even before playing the Outriders content. Worldslayer will allow players to carry over their existing characters, or create an entirely new Level 30 character with direct access to Worldslayer content. It’s a great time to bring friends on board who might have missed Outriders the first time around as you will all start Worldslayer on equal footing. And don’t worry - thanks to the timeline, you can still go back and play Outriders content even if you start with Worldslayer.

If you’ve watched our Worldslayer Reveal Spotlight or perhaps even tuned in for our full reveal Broadcast, you’ll likely already have caught glimpses of some of the new things coming to Worldslayer. As is tradition we of course want to provide a bit more detail on all those things right here in the community - let’s take a look!

New Campaign, New Enemies, New Environments
  • Outriders Worldslayer introduces a brand new, standalone story campaign that you can jump into even if you haven’t played the original story.
  • The new campaign will focus on the Outrider facing up against Ereshkigal(phonetically: “EH-RESH-KE-GAL”), the commander of a new human faction called the Insurgents against the backdrop of Enoch’s climate undergoing cataclysmic changes.
    • Ereshkigal may well be considered “The First Altered”.
  • Throughout Worldslayer you will of course also be travelling to new locations. You can see footage from the Glacier’s Edge and Driftwater environments in press coverage this week. Both are environments from relatively early on in the campaign.
  • Worldslayer will introduce new enemy variants as well as some entirely new adversaries and bosses. You may have spotted some of them in our Spotlight already and we do plan on showcasing more of them in future via our social channels.

New Gear
  • Outriders Worldslayer will of course introduce a host of new gear, both in terms of weaponry and armour.
  • Each class will be getting dedicated new 5-piece Legendary Armour Sets.
  • Worldslayer does also introduce a few new 3-piece Legendary Armour Sets, which will be universally equipableby all classes. These will have their own set bonuses as well.
    • Note: Some of the previous Legendary Armour Sets and Mods will also be reworked as part of the Worldslayer launch! We’ll talk more about these at or shortly before launch.
  • Each new Legendary Gear piece introduced in Worldslayer also comes with a new Mod.
  • We’re planning to show off some of the special Gear you can obtain in Worldslayer on our social channels between now and launch - make sure to follow us there if you’re interested!

New PAX Class Trees
  • Outriders Worldslayer introduces a new class tree: The PAX tree.
  • The PAX tree is a separate class tree from the existing three branches you’re familiar with and it requires it’s own PAX points to activate nodes within it.
  • PAX points are acquired at certain points in Worldslayer that are based on general progress rather than a specific level grind.
  • The PAX tree itself is comprised of 2 branches for each class, though similar to the main skill tree, these are interlinked.
  • Each node in the PAX tree is equivalent to the major nodes in the original class trees, so every choice you make in the PAX tree will be impactful to the performance of your Outrider.
  • Just like the main skill tree, the PAX tree can be freely respec'd.
  • The idea behind the PAX tree is to allow players to either specialise further into a specific direction or to better enable hybrid builds.
  • The branches of each PAX tree are called:
    • Pyromancer
      • Gunblazer
      • Pyromaniac
    • Technomancer
      • Desolator
      • Overseer
    • Devastator
      • Wrecker
      • Tectonic Shifter
    • Trickster
      • Spectre
      • Exploiter
  • The PAX tree will unlock at level 30 after you start playing the Worldslayer campaign.

New Ascension System
  • Outriders Worldslayer introduces a new longterm progression system called Ascension.
  • The idea of Ascension is to give your continued play an ongoing “next level” to work towards alongside regular play.
  • Continued Ascension by itself does not unlock or gate better gear or content. It is purely designed to make you stronger.
  • The Ascension system is currently balanced so that it would take you hundred+ hours to fully complete it.
  • Leveling up Ascension is done by collecting exp from killing enemies. It is only available from Character Level 30 onwards and with Worldslayer installed.
  • XP earned after Level 30 will go towards Ascension Levels which in turn provide you with Ascension Points.
  • You will be able to invest your Ascension Points into any of the four Ascension categories: Brutality, Endurance, Prowess or Anomaly.
  • Each of these categories have five options in which to invest.
    • For example, you could invest your points to reduce your cooldowns, increase your life or resistances or output more damage.
  • Each option in each category can have up to 10 Ascension Points invested into it.
  • You can reach level 200 Ascension in Worldslayer, for a total of 200 Ascension Points. At 200 Ascension Points, you will have completely filled out each option in each category.
  • You can mix and match where you invest your points and you can always freely respec your Ascension Point distribution.
  • Like the newly introduced PAX Tree, Ascension is intended to allow players to either supercharge a specific build or to better create a hybrid build that works across multiple playstyles.

Introducing the Apocalypse System + Third Mod Slot
  • As a reminder, the Tiers systems in Outriders allow each player to fine-tune the difficulty of the game to their own needs. Higher Tiers mean higher difficulty but also improved rewards and the ability to equip higher level gear.
  • Outriders Worldslayer introduces a new Apocalypse system that heavily impacts your Max Gear Equip level, the Difficulty Tiers system and, most importantly, Loot.
  • Challenge Tiersare being replaced by Apocalypse Tiers.
    • This change will affect all versions of Outriders, even if you do not have Worldslayer installed.
  • Apocalypse Tiers will determine not just the difficulty and reward scaling of Expeditions but also of all Worldslayer content (campaign and endgame).
  • Apocalypse Tiers will go up to Tier 40and will act as a natural extension of World Tiers which do still remain in place for the original Outriders campaign. The original Outriders campaign can, however, be played using Apocalypse Tiers instead, should you have Worldslayer installed.
    • The max Apocalypse Tier you can unlock by completing Expeditions content in the base game (without Worldslayer installed) is 15.
    • With Worldslayer installed, you can still play Expeditions to continue unlocking higher Apocalypse Tiers above Tier 15.
    • At Apocalypse Tier 15, your Max Gear Equip Level will still be Level 50, as it currently is.
    • At Apocalypse Tier 40, your Max Gear Equip Level will be Level 75, which is the new gear level cap.
  • When playing above a certain Apocalypse Tier, there will be a chance for Apocalypse Gearto drop.
    • Apocalypse Gear pieces are special variants of Epic and Legendary Gear pieces in the game.
    • Apocalypse Gear pieces have three mod slots.
    • Apocalypse Gear can currently only be obtained through drops, it cannot be crafted.
    • You can identify Apocalypse Gear by a special icon when hovering over it.

New Endgame
  • While Apocalypse Tiers do cross over into Expeditions content, Outriders Worldslayer will actually be introducing its own, dedicated Endgame. An Endgame that Worldslayer has actually been specifically designed around.
  • The campaign in Worldslayer will take you to the ancient city of Tarya Gratar (Phonetically: Tar-ya Gra-Ta), the cradle of the PAX civilisation, where the Trial of Tarya Gratar awaits.
  • That’s about all the information we’re ready to share regarding the Endgame at this moment in time. Our next Broadcast will be focusing specifically on the Trial of Tarya Gratar, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
  • Don’t worry though: The Trial of Tarya Gratar does not contain any timed elements.

Outriders Worldslayer Closed Beta
  • With Outriders Worldslayer launching in just a few short months, we will be running two small-scale closed and private Betas.
  • As they are closed, we won’t be talking about them too much publicly and we ask that any participants lucky enough to participate ensure that they don’t discuss their experiences anywhere other than in the dedicated private channels.
  • Objectives:
    • The objective of the Closed Betas is to observe progress of players through Worldslayer content. We will be relying on in-game analytics to provide raw data, but we will also be very interested in players feedback around balancing through the dedicated feedback channels we’ll be providing.
    • We will at this stage not be able to make any sweeping changes to any mechanics, formats or processes within Worldslayer, but the data and feedback coming out of the Closed Betas will allow us to provide a more balanced experience at launch.
    • Stress-testing is not an objective of these Betas, but we will be looking to identify and remedy any initial bugs or technical issues players may encounter.
  • Format and Requirements:
    • The Betas will be run using the Microsoft Insider Programme, and will therefore be available to players on Xbox and the Windows Store.
    • Due to the small number of players invited into Beta 1 and the multiplayer experience we’re planning to observe, we need to ensure Beta attendees are playing in as few timezones as possible. We are therefore limiting Beta 1 to just North American players.
    • We will be looking specifically for players who have invested 50+ hours into Outriders and who have a solid understanding of the game and theory-crafting.
      • Your Outriders save game and characters will be waiting for you in the Worldslayer Beta, but progress made as part of any Beta will not be carried over to the launch version. All Beta progress will be lost.
    • To participate, you will need to link your Microsoft Xbox Account, your Square Enix Members account and your Discord account.
  • Schedule:
    • Beta 1 will be start on April 29th and we will letting 2500 players in.
    • Beta 2 is planned to be run later in May or June. The success of Beta 1 will inform how long Beta 2 will be run for and how many players will be invited in.
If you are interested in participating and helping shape Outriders Worldslayer before it launches, please register your interest here.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Goddamn they're selling it for damn near a full retail games price. Must be a real meaty expansion.

Game Pass owners can 'upgrade' their version for $35 if I'm not mistaken.

Will it remain a GP title? It's been on the service for over a year now.

Plenty of games stay up for 2 (or more). We don't know how long the initial deal was, but MS can always cut another to keep it on the service for longer.

There need to be some transparency, when consumers are paying for DLC. Would be pretty bad if people are locked out of content in a year..

Release date in the title is off by a month. Expansion is coming far sooner than I thought.

. . .also some excellent changes to endgame it sounds like, although putting some of it behind the expansion is a bit annoying.

That's so fucking stupid. The game was pretty meh overall. I'm glad it was on GP and I'd pity anyone that wasted money on it.

To each their own, but I certainly got my money's worth out of this game when it released.

Me too. The latest free upgrade made the game far more enjoyable to grind. Hope Outriders will keep getting expansions through this gen. Would be awesome with 4-player raids.

Seems like a pretty good expansion, I'm looking forward to it. Thought it was a good game, finished the campaign and played a couple of expeditions. Might just jump back in to finish collecting those legendary armor and weapons.

Cool, I actually enjoyed the game quite a bit.

I’m not purchasing this, but if the update ever gets included in GamePass I’ll jumps back in for sure.

Super hyped for Worldslayer!!! Already pre-ordered the upgrade for Xbox Series X. Everything about it looks great and People Can Fly seems to have put more new content, changes, etc. in the expansion than I was expecting. Will probably play through the entire game again which would be the 5th time since it released in April 2021. Two months to go!!!

Had a lot of fun with this game, just wished it had more content at the time so I'll definitely be picking this up. Don't even remember what the game feels like, so it'll be new again.

Wow, that's really pricey for an expansion... I wonder if it's meaty enough to justify this pricetag. Will definitely wait on impressions before biting the bullet.

I had way more fun with this game than I ever imagined. Lots of laughs were had whether they were expected or not. The combat is really fun in this game too

One of my favorite games from last year. Awful first impression but it won me over the more I leveled up my character. Will wait for reviews though. Seems like a glorified enemy color swap and more arenas with cinemas I wont care about sparkled in. Hope im wrong and its better than that.

What did that update do (Horizons) because I completed and 100% the game in the first few weeks and never came back, enjoyed the game though but hated the mass disconnects constantly.

I've been playing the game solely from Game pass, and bought the mini DLC for a dollar or something. Played for hundreds of hours, so pre ordered the new campaign DLC to support the devs.

Cost wise it's not bad, we get hundreds of hours more with content and the new end game for $35.

The game is in a good place now, and with some adjustments for matchmaking it will be in an extremely good state.

Outrider was a draught game iirc. There was absolutely nothing new out for two months before outriders and everyone was thirsty for something , anything please god. It was then promptly forgotten about once Returnal, Resident Evil 8 was out. Fun times.

Played it with friends, and we had a serious blast.

Were there some problems with the game, sure, the load times on my ps4 pro were abysmal, and things like mob diversity were also rubbish.

but all in all the combat and skills were extremely fun.

This game has so much potential and happy to see they are improving on it, sad to see you did not get along with it.

I played it through completion and it was ok, but I'll not be dropping near full price for a damned expansion. The games been out for ages with fuck all for content and they decided to do this, no thank you.

Gotta respect it when a dev team releases something with promise and rather than giving up after getting all the sales, doubles down and trys to improve the title with actual content to compete with the big boys. What's important is this is weirdly not a GaaS title, it feels like it should be, but rather than drip feed you content they just deliver an old-school style expansion like this.

Will give it anouther shot, it's certainly earned at least that much.

True. Pretty sure a lot of the gamers never understood that the game was not following the GaaS model, gjeve expectations are way overblown.

The game sure did have it's challenges after release, but it gradually got better. With New Horizon a lot finally clicked.

This game was surprisingly excellent until endgame where it dramatically shit the bed. Expeditions were awful, loot was awful, and overall it was a very grindy, unfun experience. I dipped out as soon as I completed the last Expedition on lvl 15 and haven't looked back. I know they've patch a bunch of the bigger problems since then so maybe I'll jump back in when the expansion hits.

I really want to jump on this because I loved the demo and did everything you could do in it. But I have 500 thousand games to finish first.
For what it’s worth, I milked the game for all it’s got in about a week. It was a great experience. It’s rather short, assuming you don’t waste time on the endgame.

Looks interesting.

The biggest issue this game has is the P2P servers / multiplayer. There's rubberbanding all over the place, and a few other issues. The endgame and the whole co-op part of the game is weird. Endgame shit the bed for months due to the timer, but also if you have buddies in Endgame, even after the timer was removed, the enemies become too bulletspongy. I rather would solo endgame content than deal with enemies having 2-3x times the health just to play with friends.

Just watched the Live Event Reveal

How is Outriders in 2022? I played a good 10 hours or so release week and it seemed fun but kinda not that stable, its still on Game Pass so I have a month or so to catch up

I've played it for the last 3 days and it runs really great. Easy to find a random team to play with.
